Scientists analysing ancient ice samples say that the Greenland ice sheet withstood temperatures much higher than today’s for many thousands of years during a period of global warming more than 120,000 years ago, losing just a quarter of its mass. It had been widely suggested – by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for instance – that any such warming would melt the entire sheet, leading to massive sea-level rises.
The new research was carried out by analysing a 2.5km long ice core drilled from the Greenland ice last year by a major scientific expedition involving top boffins from around the world. The core data showed that 115 to 130 thousand years ago, temperatures above the Greenland ice were much higher than they are today: 8±4°C, in fact.
The local radio station that regurgitates as “news” every baseless Seth Borenstein fueled prediction on climate change never manages to see this stuff. Or maybe they do. Who knows anymore?

Assume for a moment that what the IPCC claims is true. Assume that not only will the Greenland ice sheet continue to lose ice at its current rate, but that the current rate will continue to accelerate at the current rate.
It still takes at least 11,000 years for the ice to disappear, mostly in the last 1000 years of the process. It’s hard to pretend that this is an urgent problem needing address now even if the IPCC claims are all true.
And what they never seem to understand is that continuing trends never do.
The laity seem to be itching to be taxed over “global warming”. There is no sense to it. Probably the intelligent thing to do is to set up a carbon credits trading company, or buy shares in a windfarm company. The suckers are demanding to be bilked. Bilk `em!

Canadians need to find a way to let the bedwetters live what they preach.
If global warming is such a sure thing, they should be proud to voluntarily move to a selected carbon free zone, preferably in northern Manitoba.
Or better yet Quebec, in this alarmists paradise they can demonstrate this wonderful lifestyle they seek to impose on the rest of us, demonstrating the superiority of their way and proving that an economy free of hydrocarbons, all of its byproducts and derived technologies is a viable choice.
The longer they continue to preach at me, attempt to steal my property and limit my choices and freedom, the more I will seek to make the above an involuntary choice for them.
I want to see the Suzuki Oilfree Paradise, I support letting these busy bodies practise what they preach.
As a Canadian, I am still waiting for evidence of manmade global warming and an explanation of the downside for Canada.
