  1. Time to boycott Earl’s for caving to PC crap. I may go back IF they change the name to Ero’s Thin Skinned,White Rhino ale.

  2. Beer companies better drop the name “Blonde” from their ales now, and companies like Fatburger are insulting people with genetic obesity with that kind of offensive name.
In fact, the news media should refrain from using offensive terms or names in their reporting, as in this case, the use of the word “albino”. It’s offensive and shouldn’t have been
    used.
Likewise, any product aimed at a specific gender should be either banned or re-branded. Personally, I’ve long been offended that Kotex was marketed exclusively to females, and
Sports Illustrated only has females in bikinis.
It’s time to bring Political Correctness to its final evolution and ban anything that offends anyone.
… whoops. sorry. didn’t mean to offend the hard-core christians by using the word “evolution”….. Won’t happen again.

  3. Earl’s did the only thing they could when the HRC comes calling, capitulate. When a company is faced with an HRC complaint by a member of a visible minority, they simply can’t win.
They could spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on lawyers ,go all the way to the SCC, and would probably lose in the end, while the Rhino’s fellow activists smear/lobby/occupy/picket the restaurant chain all over the media and cost them more millions in lost customers.
No, the solution is to defang the HRC’s,and force them to adhere to their original mandate,landlord/tenant disputes and employment disputes.
Our politicians, as usual, have failed us again.

  4. Clearly, the only way to prevent such offensive terms is to ban adjectives.
I await a joint Liberal/NDP motion to be introduced once they regain control of Parliament.

  5. I went to their Web site, found their comment form, and let them know they lost any future business from me.

  6. The HRCs are merely a symptom of a bigger problem, government agencies put in place to “fix” either non-existent problems or set up an alternate system to deal with matters in a “fairer” manner than the justice system. I am not saying that the justice system is the be all and end all. It is expensive, time consuming and extremely frustrating. However, entities like the HRC possess all of the aforementioned characteristics and they are inherently unfair. The people who populate them have a perspective that is completely opposite to the justice system. If a charge is brought against you, it is up to you to defend yourself and prove your innocence. You will bear all of the costs and there is no real mechanism for an appeal other than through the courts. The complainant is held completely harmless from a financial and reputational perspective regardless of how far or how long the process takes. The only reason that Ezra was successful was that he decided not to pursue an appeal through the justice system but he also took the case to the court of public opinion through the venue of YouTube. Only when the public saw the manner in which he was treated did he achieve justice.
Earl’s made a mistake in not fighting this but I can understand their position. As someone else stated, a corporation cannot fight with a visible minority within the HRC system. The financial and reputational damage can be catastrophic. It’s cheaper to cave and continue doing business. Unfortunately, when any company or individual caves we all lose a little more of our liberty.

  7. I will never visit an Earls again. It is giving in to these miserable people who feel so depreciated that they must act out their childish grievances to make themselves feel that they have some worth that is destroying what is left of the cohesion in our society.
I do not understand what human right was being violated in this case … If anyone knows, please tell.

  8. The precedent has now been set for textile companies to face similar fights.
A fella I work with just painted his interior with a taupe color called “muslim”.

  9. One of my three favourite teachers in high school was a French, gay, white (obviously), male. He pushed us to learn the maths without whining once about his lot in life.
This woman, Ikponwosa (I.K.) Ero, is a lefty agitator. They seem to be increasing in number like flies.

  10. Cowards
How long until a guy with a big nose takes offence at the beer name “rhino” and wants a piece of the “human rights” action? Its best Earls not name their beer but just have customers point to the tap.

    yup, I did the same.

  12. Your tax dollars at work BC people….
You pay for the HRC that agrees to give this kind of attention seeking idiot creedence.
As for Earl’s restaurants … if you are a business that is reisk averse then caving in is what you do. I won’t patronize them any less or more over something like this.
Although it wouldbe nice if they had the spine to stand up to the PC clowns and the whining idiots.

  13. “…Earl’s did the only thing they could when the HRC comes calling, capitulate…”
    Well, certainly the easiest thing.
But the company had other evenues – such as mounting a very public defence campaign using the good points that many folks have made on this blog about the absoutely frivolous stupidity of a complaint like this, and the credibility of any agency that would stoop to entertain it.
Had they gone that route – keeping in mind the spankings that the HRCs have gotten lately – there is a good chance that this nonsense might have been handled differently.
Hell, if they had handled it properly, Earl’s could have used it as a de facto marketing campaign, and they might have emptied their warehouses to keep up with demand.

  14. Go ahead – blame the victim if it makes you feel good.
Although a judicious approach, and one that had balls would go after the HRC and the government that is allowing them to continue their crusaid.

  15. I see this as nothing more than the importation of the Muslim/African belief system and its overtaking of our culture.
Here in Canada we are known for celebrating people and their differences, learning to understand and appreciate the variations and subtleties of us all, and bringing all into a place of healing and restoration so we can live the awesome life we have been given, to it’s fullest.
The HRC, in this case, has said that the wounded has the right to remain in a place of victim-hood and then force everyone else within the society to join in her misery.
Welcome to what the world will descend into when the nation of Islam is allowed to gain a strong enough foothold in this society.
Time for some push-back and bring freedom back to this Nation.

  16. And I will sit down with Earl and have a chat about this with him personally. I will get back to you with what really happened.

  17. Back in the day I used to stare at Albinos. I used to stare at black people too. I probably haven’t noticed an Albino in 40 years as I’m sure most dye their hair, use spray tan, and wear sun glasses. Some times I think some minorities go out of their way to court attention. Mind you, if you tell them to tone it down, you get shat upon like the school trustee in Barrhead, Alberta who mention that maybe gay people wouldn’t get as many sh*t kickings if they did less advertising. Albino simply means white. Now I’m offended.

  18. I enjoyed some Albino Rhino Dark (if you can believe it) Ale last night, and it was very good indeed. So much so, that I brought home the beer mat, as I do whenever I encounter a new beer that I like. I hope to get back to Earl’s again while in the West to enjoy some more of their brew and collect a handful more of those about-to-disappear beer mats. After April 24th, we’ll see.

  19. So,will all the Earls,or any, launch a lawsuit that forces the chain to change their name?
I would hate to have people think that I could cook if I could not.

  20. Hoisted many a Rhino at Earl’s but no more. I suppose my Albino Rhino glassware is now an offensive weapon if brandished in public.
We must actively move to dismantle the pathocracy of institutions, statutes and political cliques which cater to the neurotic notions of society’s most destructive egocentric elements.
Phone Earls head office and tell them why you and your friends are boycotting them, get others to as well. Encourage Big Rock to offer the brand for public distribution now Earls has dropped it. There are lots of other upscale craft beer eateries who won’t be intimidated by this PC BS willing to serve Albino Rhino with impunity. I’m willing to bet there are more levelheaded beer drinking patrons who Earls will lose over this than Politically correct zealots who will patronize them for succumbing to PC extortion. Lefty never votes with his cash – he has none of his own.

  21. Earls should have no problem keeping albinos on the menu in Africa.

DAR ES SALAAM, Sept 14 (Reuters) – A Canadian rights group says it will not rest until there is an end to the murder of albinos in Tanzania — a minority often hunted down for their body parts to be used in witchcraft.
Since 2007 at least 53 albinos have been killed in various parts of the east African nation, with most incidents occurring in the remote northwest regions of Shinyanga and Mwanza, where superstition is deep-seated.

  22. Their new beer will be called “Big Fat Ugly Whore.”
Do you think HRC will get complaints from Hastings Street?

  23. Even better, dismantle the bodies altogether and scrap the legislation. let people with complaints use real courts if they feel they have been injured. Tribunals and administrative law are part of the path to slavery.
