  1. Opposite of diversity indeed!
Employers (including voters) should boycott this institution. When grads find they can’t get jobs, they might start asking the right questions, if they still have the “free speech” to do so.
We’re so glad the Commissar of Student Affairs “let slide” a comment praising tradition marriage! So happy to be granted an opinion.

  2. This is a stark example of two very wrong cultural developments –
    1) Reason, truth and social cohesion are never served by tolerating the sociopathic delusions of misanthropes.
    2) Universities are becoming havens for disturbed people who would otherwise be under professional/institutional care for their antisocial psychosis.

  3. Seventh year human rights student??
Small wonder, that after 7 years, he still does not have a clue about rights and responsibility.
Let me guess, my taxes are subsidizing this freeloader, while he hangs around campus bullying kids considerably younger than himself?
    A natural born Liberal.
This precious twerp is too frightened to leave the security of his coddling class.Even govt employment must be too much for him.

  4. Typical leftard, hypocritical reaction. And before anybody goes bitchin’ and whining, how do I know he’s a leftard socialist nutjob?? Because they are the ONLY one’s who preach free speech, then do everything they can to squash free speech. Like they say, ignorance can be taught to learn, stupid is forever.

  5. I can see 7 years for medicine, or nuclear physicist etc. but for human rights????
Seven days would cover everthing you needed to know.

  6. Scott: Two types of people attend Last Chance U. The first are students who for some reason can’t leave eastern Ontario. Most of those are civil servants who need the piece of paper for a pay rise (their tab paid by the Queen of Canada).
Most of the others simply couldn’t convince any other Canadian university to accept them, with the possible exception of the even more worthless Université d’Ottawa, alias Zero U (a former French Catholic madrassah lightly secularizedvin the Sixties into the largest cesspit of French-Canadian nationalist troublemaking outside Quebec). These include Muslims using study as an excuse to illegally settle in Canada—and the seven-year human rights students who love them.

  7. Arun Smith is awaiting an interview for his/her dream job: Greeter at a gas chamber. Or bakery, depending on his mood.

  8. Like Kathy says at FFF. This is why gays are disliked.
Another totalitarian thug . Who has a god complex, believing he should rule peoples thoughts & minds.
Human rights is just an extortionist racket by low life from the no hoper’s Union of malcontents. Trying to either steal money or cause havoc for their own egos by using race or gender as a hammer. All at our expense of course. By very stupid people
My goodness 7 years of University for a 4 year course. Just another parasite professional student. One with a chip on their shoulder. He wouldn’t know or approve of real freedom.
You can bet hes a communist , hate humanity fascist.

  9. Can’t believe how bad universities are now in suppressing free speech. When even the concept of a free speech wall has the university administration checking to see if anyone has put anything considered “offensive” or “hate speech” on the wall indicates that it’s probably time to dramatically cut university funding.
UBC’s interior medical program is trying very hard to get GP’s to become “clinical instructors” which is a faculty position. I looked at what this involves and came close to putting my fist through my laptop screen when I saw what I was to agree to as a UBC faculty member. Essentially what they’re saying is that we believe in free speech, except for the following topics which any faculty member would agree should not be discussed. I’ve written a nice derisive letter (which would probably violate their free speech policy) which I’ll send to them the next time I’m asked to become a member of the “clinical faculty”. When one of the requirements for med students is the achievement of “social justice”, you know it’s time to defund the universities and start over again with a different set of professors. Right now the average UBC medical student is a Chinese female; probably because Chinese blow away other students with their marks and female because UBC is against admitting “privileged white males” as medical students to “correct historical patterns of discrimination”. I’m so glad I don’t live in Vancouver any more.
Curiously, when I was a medical student our primary goal was to learn medicine, not “human rights” and “social justice” crap. I fully expect that if one put a hammer and sickle on the “free speech wall”, that would be acceptable. My response to someone putting up a hammer and sickle is a swastika as I believe that lesser members of the mass murderers club should also be represented. Just because Adolph couldn’t compete with Josef in the total body count category is no reason for people to get so upset over the misappropriation of an ancient Sanskrit symbol by a socialist. If I was in university now I’d be sorely tempted to get a swastika tattooed on my forehead for the shock value alone (good thing that tattoo parlors were few and far between in my misspent youth).
Dick Slater, as an alumnus of U of zero, I should point out that there are actually two separate portions to that university. There’s the medical faculty and science and engineering faculties where people actually learn something useful. Then there are the arts faculties which are primarily occupied by frogs but whose female members were very easy to bed in the 1970’s. We viewed the arts faculties as a target rich environment for horny engineers. As far as Carleton goes, it was known for having a pub that was able to bring in good bands. I wasn’t aware of anything more intellectual going on at that institution.
Obviously both universities have deteriorated considerably and I think it’s time for large mobs of drunken engineers to put things right.

  10. “The only comment that verged into anti-gay territory was a scrawl reading ‘traditional marriage is awesome.'”
Ummmm….that is “anti-gay”? I don’t see anti-anything in that comment. The Pest reporter seems to have drunk the Kool-Aid (the one pre-sweetened with a political agenda).

  11. The likelihood that Mr. Smith will ever be employed in the private sector just perished. We’re going to have to carry this sanctimonious hothead on our backs the rest of his days. Think we’ll get our money’s worth?

  12. He’ll be charged with vandalism, destruction of property, public mischief etc., right?

  13. Anyone else think our universities have become daycare centers for emotionally challenged adults?? Good lord his vernacular just drips progressive victimhood.

  14. “Free speech is a friend of minorities, it shouldn’t be people who feel marginalized in society who are trampling on free speech,” he said.
By marginalized he meant “front and center”.

  15. There are parallels with this story and the story about Obama’s apparent unfamiliarity with the history behind “peace in our time”. We live in a time where our educational institutions revel in and celebrate a sort of profound ignorance.

  16. Sooner or later he’ll have to leave and will find himself explaining the concept of human rights to a bank, government or collection agency intent on recovering those student loans.

  17. “I don’t often call people ‘Fascists,’ but when I do, it’s people like Arun Smith.”
    — The Most Politically Incorrect Man In The World

  18. If this fellow is an example of what is coming out of our universities today then not only is freedom of speech at risk, but freedom itself. I suspect that this fellow and the Charles23 from the thread above have common ideologies.

  19. I just wonder how these elderly hippies, angry queers and militant atheists intend to censor anything.
Each time those idiots try to quash somebody the message they hate goes public! And more times than not – in their very own leftist lickspittle media venues.
Guess you kids will have to go back to grafitti on the bathroom walls.
Oh wait…Warren Kinsella is patrolling the boys washrooms, isn’t he…?

  20. “…destroyed in an act of “forceful resistance,” by seventh-year human rights student Arun Smith.”
Where pray tell are the defenders of freedom to “forcefully resist” Arun Smith?
    Here’s a hint:
“…“traditional marriage is awesome.” According to Mr. CoKehyeng, the four-word phrase prompted a visit from Ryan Flannagan, the university’s director of student affairs. “He saw that it wasn’t inciting hate speech at all, so he let that one slide,” said Mr. CoKehyeng.”
This “freedom wall” is a piece of theater. They’re trolling for freaks. They’ve caught two so far, Apparatchik Flannagan and fruitloop Arun Smith. I approve!
If I might be permitted to advise, they should add a video camera. Not to record the people doing the writing, but to get a lovely YouTube of the apparatchiks and fruitloops trying to shut it down or tear it down.
Just in case Arun Smith might someday read this comment, yes Arun, fruitloop is indeed an allusion to both your orientation (or lack thereof) and your mental state. Nested irony, as it were. I look forward to your effort at forcefully resisting anonymous postings on the Interwebs. Your comrade in arms Iberia is 0 for 20 so far.

  21. Your have to remind yourself that these are children, newly disguised in young adult form, speaking with all the wisdom of youth. In other words, they warrant no serious attention. They know nothing yet about life or the world and have zero credibility on the subject. But it is an important phase on the road to responsibility. I think the actions of the gay crusader subtly clarifies issues for many.

  22. “Adolph couldn’t compete with Josef in the total body count category”
Just as Josef lost out to Mao when it comes to liquidating the enemies of the people.

  23. Loki ftw!
I think it’s time for large mobs of drunken engineers to put things right.
In my experience, thats how most things get built in this world.

  24. christopher swift 9:37 AM “Sooner or later he’ll have to leave and will find himself explaining the concept of human rights to a bank, government or collection agency intent on recovering those student loans.”
I think he’s hoping for a government job: Assistant Vice Kommissar for Diversity at the Ministry of Love.

  25. in 7 years, I bought a new house and paid for it, a new bike, a cottage, a 4X4, a new car for the wife, several trips abroad, but then I only had 5 kids, so maybe I cheated:-)))

  26. I’m watching the interview right now. What an absolutely ignorant thug.
What saddens me even more is that I suspect that at least 30% of Canadians would agree with him.
How on earth did the Left destroy the minds of so many in our nation???
