Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA
"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
The response will be to use the dead children as a means to take away the guns of those who didn’t do it. An armed individual in the school could have possibly reduced the loss of life.
Look boys and girls it’s time to mourn and offer prayers and thoughts at the moment, not point fingers.
GaryinWpg, yes I do feel for the children and the families. I’m sure everyone here does.
But I’m sick of the left, and these problems in society are their fault.
Evil knows no bounds.

BTW, mentally ill does not mean not criminally responsible. Some of those who are mentally ill are quite capable of lucidity and planning. It is their paranoia and delusions that make them insane.
Timothy Friesen:
When did I call for banning games?
This is another common psychological condition of contemporary Westerners; the assumption that disaproval automatically means government intervention.
Suspects mother is dead, but also his father…. in Hoboken N.J.
I’m gonna check his facebook.
Unfortunately the ME generation are not exactly the sanest generation, decades of being treated like emotionally stunted children will have serious consequences.
There have always been lots of guns in the USA.
It’s NOT the guns: it’s the CULTURE.
(In relation to the shootings, a pleasant young stranger, to whom I spoke today, and who actually agreed with my take, had no idea what The Golden Rule was—when I asked. He thought it had something to do with economics.)
“No God allowed” has devolved into a hollowed out, violent culture.
For each of the victims: “Once was this a spirit’s dwelling, by the breath of God created.” May they rest in peace.
Kyrie eleison.
A Ryan Lanza from Hoboken, went to school in Newtown connecticut is still with us.
Something is wrong with the name?
‘(White House spokesman) Carney wouldn’t say whether the shooting would make gun control a higher priority on the president’s agenda, but he said there would be a day for discussion on that policy issue.
‘“But I don’t think today is that day,” he said.’
http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/1302311–school-shooting-reported-in-connecticut-lockdown-in-place
“But I don’t think today is that day.”
No, today will be the day that Obama will mke a statement and try to make this somehow about him and his family just like he did with the movie theatre shooting.
Apparently shooter is Adam Lanza, brother of Ryan.
What is it with America and spree killers?”
Drugs and Liberal culture.
Where were the mass school shootings before Liberalism and drugs became mainstream cultural norms?
Guns built the country, liberalism and drugs are tearing it apart.
Mexico is the poster-child for the drug infested gun ban society that the Liberals wish to create so badly.
Long long ago in a garden near forgotten a man and a woman decided to taste the fruit of Good and Evil.
We are their prodigy and have the scars to prove it. So let’s lay aside our vitriol and our hysterics and seek Peace.
May God give solace to the grieving families in the sure knowledge that He has clasped their dear departed to His breast.
Yeah there has always been lots of guns, and lots of liberals trouble is not long ago people as a whole didn’t have a problem differentiating between feelings and common sense.
Kudos for having the guts to keep sarges posts up I imagine guns owners are going to hear and read worse before it gets better anyways after all if you heard Obama’s statement a while ago “it’s time to put politics aside and solve this problem”, I didn’t see it I heard it on the radio but I imagine there might have been tears.
He’s going to run with this one. How far he’ll get in today’s America well that’s anyone’s guess.
So my fellow “cruel” conservatives, steel yourselves for the onslaught because as always even though your stomach tightens up and you know better in your head and in your heart, guns and gun owners will always be the problem to a certain kind of people when stuff like this happens.
It doesn’t matter how much you show remorse, argue logically, and know better, some people just like to be mice and just get by on feelings, as long as they keep their stuff, you part with yours, and the direction is a nicer world.
This shouldn’t be surprising to anyone that these shootings are on the rise. For one, we have raised generations on excessive violence and moral perversion which does influence peoples behavior.
And two, thanks to moronic shortsighted brain dead liberals there has been a push over the last 40 years to deinstitutionalize patients, and potential patients. If you want safety than bring back metal hospitals and forced treatment. Honestly, I blame liberals for these shootings.
Except for sarge and Robert L….most are missing this seriousness of this. The leftards say it is OK for me to go out and shoot up whatever,BECAUSE it will further their commie agenda(blame the right). Then they can try to kill the 2nd Amendment, and take away all guns. When will you clowns wake up and realize that it is a truism that when you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns? Stop for two seconds, rub your 3 brain cells together, and just look at what gun control did in Canada and the UK and some US states.Once and for all….GUNS do NOT kill people.Somebody must be on the trigger,be it a soldier, cop, criminal,or some kook. Yes.It is a tragedy what happened, but NO gun control, socialism,or weeping will change the fact that there are nuts out there.
I keep starting to express something but can’t put together even one sentence that makes any sense. This is just too much of an indescribable horror. One thought that keeps occurring to me is that schools are simply no longer a safe place to sent your children.
Justthinkin, I wish you’d shut up and stop digging deep. Sarge always has and always will be a troll. IF you side with him, you’re feeding into every ridiculous stereotype his twisted little mind can conjure up.
You cannot make a law to legislate away evil. End of story. Pray for peace for those involved, and hug your kids a little tighter tonight.
Thoughts about morality and ideology are not really helpful…anymore than disarming the law-abiding….
Back in the 60’s, in Isreal, schools were soft targets favoured by the arab terrorists. Isreal promptly made schools perhaps the safest place in Isreal, which terrorist avoided rather than targeted.
Isreal armed even the custodians…end of problem.
Both the insane and terrorists prefer soft targets….US federal law makes US schools “gunfree zones” and magnets for evil doers.
The common denominator in these mass shootings world wide is that they most often occur in “gunfree zones”. Fort Hood was a “gunfree zone”….gun shows are probably safer than the White House.
Mental illness is liberal-speak for evil. It is an excuse to bail out the person from taking responsibility for their actions.
The shooter made a choice at some time to act on the idea/impulse/temptation and rejected good and chose evil. His moral compass got whacked and this is the result. Evil took over and consumed him.
As history shows, evil waits and crouches at the door at each and every one of doors at some time in our lives. The degrees of evil are sometimes subtle, but they are always present.
Prayers to the families and friends, the city and the nation. Lets pray that the Godly will rise up and show His love and care. Mercy triumphs over judgement, but justice must be served.
Healing needs to come to the land.
I met everyone of my children’s grade school teachers. While I’m sure I didn’t share political views with any of them, there’s not a one that I thought deserved to die just because they were NDP supporters. And, as I stated in another thread, I thought they did a fairly good job of educating my two very bright and precious girls. Anyone who thinks the Newton teachers deserved to die – without ever meeting or speaking to a single one of them, mind you – is a murderous bigot, plain and simple.
Robert L, I could be wrong, but I thought the biggest mass murder in the US was done with airplanes, not arson.
Most of all, I’m sad that Christmas will be forever ruined for so many families, who will never go through the season again without these awful memories.
I am with Yukon Gold, Truenorthist and a few others. I cannot imagine what kind of human can look into the face of a child and shoot them. As a parent, I cannot imagine the pain of those children’s families. Only crass, disgusting political opportunists use this type of tragedy to push their ideology.
I’m not saying there is any one cause for horrendous acts such as this one, yet it is absolutely true that our entire culture has moved from a culture of life to a culture of death in 50 or so short years. Goths are well aware of this fact.
Thoughts have consequences-before one acts, one thinks about the act, even if only for a nano second. Garbage in-garbage out.
Advertising works which is why companies spend billions a year on advertising campaigns. Gangsta rap is advertising, violent video games are a potent interactive form of advertising involving several areas of the brain. The brain has ‘muscle memory’, not unlike the body.
Violent video games are used successfully for therapy to flood military vetrans (a form of desensitizing and acclimatizing) who suffer from PTSD. People who view porn on a regular basis report that the previously viewed images continue to invade their thoughts throughout the day despite their attempts to suppress them.
There was an interesting finding with those who used the drug abogaine to break long term addiction for heroin, and other strong synthetic and naturally cultivated addictive drugs. The majority reported some variation of the experience of having all the jingles and advertising files and messages that they had absorbed since childhood purged from their minds. Although highly controversial, abogaine has a very high success rate as an addiction interrupter (amazingly with no drug withdrawl symptoms). Many also reported OCD and other mental health issues such as anxiety, paranoia, bi-polar disorder being ‘cured’ along with the desire for drugs or alcohol.
The human mind (will) is highly malleable which is why mankind needs God’s Spirit.
Looks like the shooter is not the guy the media pegged. It was his brother, from what they are saying now. Adam Lanza.
Core problem with nearly all these mass murders (and as others have pointed out, this is a problem in Canada and Europe as well, and at almost the same level) are committed by people with mental illness histories. The decision to deinstitutionalize the mentally ill in the 1960s and 1970s, which spread to Europe more recently, means that you pretty much have to kill someone before you get locked up. I have a book out about the subject: My Brother Ron: A Personal and Social History of the Deinstitutionalization of the Mentally Ill but unfortunately, this problem doesn’t interest the MSM, and conservative media doesn’t much care, either.
Here’s what I don’t understand, and perhaps some of you can help me with this. I don’t think anyone here will disagree that Canada is far more liberal than the States. We have more atheists, more socialists, more people living in cities, and we consume much of the same media as the Americans. What explains, then, the complete absence of shootings on this scale in Canada? I know we have one-tenth the population, but we don’t have one tenth the school shootings.
If I limit myself to fatalities from school shootings since 2000 (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_shooting):
– Canada: 3
– USA: 164
If I remove the ones without citations (because we know Wikipedia has a liberal bent), school killings in the States are still disproportionate to those in Canada. I really want to believe that it’s culture, but what is it about the culture of Canada which saves us from these shootings?
When Israel had a mass shooting at a school (by Palestinians) they armed their teachers, allowed parents to carry automatic weapons and relaxed their carry laws. Result: no further school shootings.
In America, they do things differently.
Yukon Gold….maybe I did not express myself in the right way.I do not side with sarge,BUT,no amount of leftardism, which is social pogro…errr…programs, etc, can stop this kind of evil from happening.Maybe I should have said instead of the “elites” trying to help us,maybe just get rid of the regs, and elites, and let us common snese guys/gals carry on?
Yeah…I hugged my 2 daughters tighter today, especially when my youngest grand-daughter came home to her mother crying about what had happened.Sh1t like this does affect us old guys..:):)….problem is…some of us want to fix it…sigh.
Ace has a good idea here:

http://www.cnn.com/
Gotta love CNN. There homepage of course features a picture of Obama instead of the school, either from the ground or an aerial shot of it. Then you click on “20 schoolchildren among the dead” link and it takes you to an even bigger picture of Obama with the caption above “President Obama wipes away a tear…”
As always, it’s all about him.
Ian there is no bigger liar then statistics, we have a population in the thirty millions they have a population in the three hundred million. If we multiplied our mere 3 by their 100 times more population you would be looking at
300
164
and asking yourself what it is about their culture that makes them have half the fatal shooting per capita ratio that we have.
Grey lady, I don’t understand your math. We have 30 million, they have 300 million. Should I not be multiplying by 10 instead of 100, ie.
164
30
I blame the MSM personally.
Ian, hoisted on my own petard……heh….I hang my head in shame of my accounting background…..snap.
carry on then. :O)
Once again, the discussion immediately goes to the “how” the killings were done. Never the “why”.
Just for the sake of history, the worst school murders in US history were not caused by guns but by bombs. In fact, it was the Bath School Disaster which took place in Bath Township, Michigan, on May 18, 1927 and killed 38 elementary school children, two teachers, four other adults and the bomber himself. At least 58 other people were injured. Most of the victims were 7–11 years of age.
The bomber was school board treasurer Andrew Kehoe, who died in a car bomb he set off after he drove up to the school as the crowd gathered to rescue survivors from the burning school.
On the morning of May 18, Kehoe murdered his wife by beating her to death, then set his farm buildings afire. As fire fighters arrived at the farm, an explosion devastated the north wing of the school building, killing many schoolchildren. He used a detonator to ignite dynamite and hundreds of pounds of pyrotol which he had secretly planted inside the school over the course of many months. As rescuers started gathering at the school, Kehoe drove up, stopped, and detonated a bomb inside his fragmentation-filled vehicle with his Winchester rifle, killing himself and the school superintendent, and killing and injuring several others. During rescue efforts searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded dynamite and pyrotol planted throughout the basement of the school’s south wing. Kehoe apparently had intended to blow up and destroy the whole school.
So it is now time to get serious about the WHY….not so much the HOW. Because the WHY will always drive the HOW.

“school killings in the States are still disproportionate to those in Canada…….. but what is it about the culture of Canada which saves us”
Well to follow your suit using Wiki, The US ranks #1 globally for personal firearm ownership and Canada #13 out of 178 countries.
Respectfully Switzerland ranks #4 and Finland #8 yet they have less mass shootings per 100th than Canada.
Mexico ranks #42 in gun ownership Russia ranks #68 and Algeria #78, China #101, Liberia #129, Nigeria #133 – Do you see where this is going?
I can’t wait for kate blog post:
“The root cause of elementary school shooting is not allowing children to bring their own gun at school to defend themselve”.
Once again, a few qualified people with sidearms could have saved many lives.
check @michellmalkins twitter feed from last night . much as i hate to admit it , sarge isn’t that far off . there were death threats , rape threats , you name it . she dared criticise some goofs “music “.
Quebecois NDP separatist >
If you don’t want to protect yourself or your family from the violence Liberalism has unleashed on our society, then do the rest of us a favor and don’t.
On the other hand we will not let you stand in our way of protecting ourselves from you’re mental madness, and there is nothing you will every say to convince logical freedom loving Canadians otherwise.
You can only try taking our guns or censoring our voices, we will never willingly give them up, not ever.
What this shooting illustrates is the stupidity of “gun free zones”. Also, out of curiousity, does Connecticut have widespread CCW? Even if it did likely people wouldn’t be allowed concealed carry in a school.
Notice how all the mass shootings are taking place in areas where the shooter knows that no one will be armed. What we need is a total ban on gun free zones and allow teachers with a valid CCW to carry concealed on the job. This would dramatically reduce the number of school shootings.
OTOH, this could also be a false flag operation designed to build anti-2nd amendment support by the Oboza gang of criminals. In any event, there will be more school shootings around the world in the next few weeks as one expects based on the Werther effect.
I just read that on twitter:
if the shooter was muslim he’d be called a “terrorist”, if he was black a “thug”, but since he’s white he’s “mentally unstable”
so true…. and sad.
Frog @5:22 – well now you’re just ripping off David Frum, to noone’s great surprise.
http://twitchy.com/2012/12/14/execrable-ghoul-david-frum-mocks-victims-of-conn-school-shooting/
I like the way Psalm 23 reads in the Book of Common Prayer (I couldn’t just find the copy my grandmother gave me in 1988, due to work being done on the house, but I did find her copy, from 1927).
The only other thing I could point to for remotely possible expression, in a more vernacular sense, would be from Gordon Lightfoot’s The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald:
“Does anyone know where the love of God goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?”
Sarge – I called the RCMP to report your postings.
YOU sound as vengeful, deadly and dangerous as these sick mass murdering spree shooters are.
You sound like the typical @#$%^&* Lefty. Why don’t you call your MLA or your MP or the Human Rights Commission Kangaroo Court or better yet call Obambam. Free speech is only free speech if you agree with it, other wise it is hate speech.
It is estimated that 1 to 3 % of the population in any country is mentally unstable. Even at 1% , that leaves 3 million + nuts running around loose. This kind of crap will always happen and choice of weapons has little to do with the subject. Just too many do gooders telling us every life is precious. I disagree. The signs always seem to be there only to be ignored until too late. Some should just be locked up and the key thrown away.
To the people who claim that everybody should have a gun to reduce violent, think this:
give everybody its own personal nuclear bomb and watch the world be so peaceful.. ya right.
“It seems to be confirmed that the shooter was an adult child of one of the teachers. He also shot and killed his mother at the family home. This looks like another case mental illness. Only the mentally ill could do this to innocent and defenseless kindergartners.
Using this as a reason for gun control is as stupid as using it bash drug legalization, humanism, atheism, electronic entertainment or whatever other bug is up your arse.
Posted by: LC Bennett at December 14, 2012 2:36 PM”
You’re right. And it’s equally ignorant to be blaming “libruls (sic), leftards, etc. etc. we can read here. I have about as much time for the left as anyone else here – which is to say, very little – but to try and blame this on a wide group simply because they have a different (oK, and wrong) worldview is ridiculous. An act like this is either evil, or the result of mental illness. If its the former, there are evil right wingers too. And evil doesn’t give a rats ass about gun control, gay marriage, or the fiscal cliff. It’s just frickin’ evil, and that’s all it is. And if the doer was mentally ill, that has nothing at all to do with political persuasion. We are quick to jump on the Left when they use disasters to further political points. Don’t do it here. Live what you believe ought to be enough.
