Under international law, Israel is not just within its rights to defend itself from Hamas. It is required to. International law requires all states to treat Hamas terrorists as criminals and deny them safe haven and financing. But the cease-fire agreement requires both the Israeli policeman and the Hamas criminal to hold their fire.
At worst, the cease-fire places Israel beneath Hamas. The first two clauses require both sides to end hostilities. The third suggests Israel is expected to make further concessions to Hamas after the firing stops.

His command regarding what is to be done with Amalek could not be clearer. The sooner Israel remembers her side of the covenant and carries it out, the better.
She has had the means to do so since at least 1973. I cannot imagine what continues to stay her hand—beyond a lingering concern for the opinion of the nations of the world. The nations of the world have thrown in their lot with Amalek, recognizing Amalek’s leaders as kings in Israel, for fear of their own Muslim rabbles. They could not have made that clearer short of making war on Israel themselves, as they did within living memory.
So be it. When the war between Israel and Amalek really begins, Amalek is doomed—and Amalek and its allies will live just long enough to envy the fate of Sodom.

I’m sorry, I really don’t mean to be argumentative or critical in any way, but did anyone above actually, know you, read the Glick article (other than the boss lady)? The article seems highly critical of Sharon, who’s nickname is Arik, which I am guessing is the purpose of the title. So bringing back Sharon could be, er, a bit of a practical problem since, from news reports I can glean, he’s somewhere between barely responsive in a hospital bed to dead (I think the former is accurate) and since the claim of this article is that he was, if not the only, certainly a big part of the problem. If I’m not getting this correctly, please advise.
LAS and others are entirely correct on international law, of course — it’s a convenient pony to ride (sort of like a Shiny Pony we know). Why, apparently, you can sign an agreement in 1996, not even attempt to do anything about it until 2005 when you need a channel changer because you’re under investigation for corruption (with the whereabouts of the missing money still not known to this day — “I wish we had known more”), and then accuse the other guy of “breaking our international obligations” and “making Canada look like a laughing stock” when he, um, respectfully declines to continue to play charades! Who knew? Evidently not the Finance Minister.
The spectacle of Kofi Annan, as UNSG, calling the 2003 invasion of Iraq illegal (after 17 UNSC resolutions), while his son, working for a UN-contractor on Iraq, apparently received some sort of pecuniary consideration from Oil-for-Food, says all that needs to be said about the left’s interest in and opinion of both international law and the rule of law. Why are we a member of this thing again?

The Oil for Food program was a clear enough statement of the theft and corruption that the UN conducts. Strong and his cohorts never saw the inside of a court room let alone any jail time.
I still see a role for an international forum like the UN but any financial committment should be minimal. Canadian foreign aid should be country to country and not through the UN affter their skim.

Given that this is the Hamas Charter, the current Hamas leadership are on a crash course for continuing and endless Jihad, until such time that the leadership in Gaza renounce these articles in their Charter.

Truer words were never spoken. It does not matter how much money the west spends in the ME, or how much diplomacy is expended in trying to achieve some sort two state federation, this on and off conflict will continue until a major war erupts.
