Saw Ezra’s rant on PVR last night. Very funny. He also predicted that, in time, the “gay pride”, sorry, “Pride” parades will have to be tossed as offensive to Muslims. See Europe where Christmas trees are under assault. Surely, “Pride” parades will have to go the way of the Winter Solstice Tree.

There is nothing in English common law that says a barber or a taxi driver must do business with anyone and everyone who wants to do business with them, or that I as a painter am entitled to have you hire me to paint your house. From what is reported in this case so far, there is much less reason to believe that Faith McGregor wanted a haircut than to believe she wanted to take a case to the Human Rights Commission for her fifteen minutes of fame.
‘Old Duffer’ made me think of another interesting angle on this case. For decades we’ve heard the term, “The Military Industrial Complex”.
Perhaps all HRCs in Canada should be thought of as the LVC = “Legalized/Legitimized Victim Complex”.
If you’re not happy about something and you happen to fall into one of the “official” victim groups in Canada, then you intuitively know, as is the case here, that you have a backup plan to get what you want. It won’t cost you anything other than time and, in the minds of many, it will elevate you up to the stature of Celebrity Victim of the week/month/year in your designated group.
The mentality this breeds is infectious. There have been several human rights cases won against B&B owners, printers etc. for failing to accept homosexuals as business clients.

I I want to take a taxi at the airport I have to take the first cab in the rank. If I don’t like the looks of the driver of that cab (maybe because he looks like a jihadist) I can’t pick and choose the taxi I want. I can’t even choose to use a different cab company because only certain companies are allowed to pick up at the airport. If the driver of the cab I am assigned to decides that he doesn’t want to carry me, he should at least be required to go to the back of the rank. Preferably, he should be required to go back to town empty and find a passenger to take to the airport before he can rejoin the queue.

Based on the twisted thinking of HRCs and how they dealt with the seeing-eye-dog-in-the-muslim-taxi case they’ll find the building owner guilty for failing to provide a GLBTUXFYZ . . . Tooner, I didn’t mean to imply that our Common Law requires you do business with everyone but I would be royally pissed off if I was refused a cab ride because I was carrying alcohol. There have been several human rights cases won against B&B owners, printers etc. for failing to accept homosexuals as business clients.
The muslims won’t cut the woman’s hair because she, in their religion, is not something a male considers his equal and wont touch. I fail to see the difference between this action and refusing to cut the hair of a black man because of your personal feelings.
In the case of these muslims, they came here and must not allow them to turn Canada into the craphole they left. We tend to argue the principals of these issues while they move one more step forward. Just MHO.
This was a well contrived set-up on the part of the lesbo to make an issue out of it and seek a monetary reward from the Ontario taxpayer. In this case I believe she’s bitten off more than she can chew.

Tooner – normally I would agree with you, but it’s not an open market. Cab licencing doesn’t form a monopoly, but the effective cartel does limit supply. If supply is artificially limited by government in this way then the pickiness argument goes out the window, IMHO. Particularly on double-whammy licencing zones like the airport run.

If they fail to persecute the Muslim Barber the Christian’s persecuted in the past have a very strong legal case to which they can sue the HRC across this land. Failure to apply the law equally, and we know they ignore radical Islamists, will open the door to class action suits. I I want to take a taxi at the airport I have to take the first cab in the rank. If I don’t like the looks of the driver of that cab (maybe because he looks like a jihadist) I can’t pick and choose the taxi I want. I can’t even choose to use a different cab company because only certain companies are allowed to pick up at the airport. If the driver of the cab I am assigned to decides that he doesn’t want to carry me, he should at least be required to go to the back of the rank. Preferably, he should be required to go back to town empty and find a passenger to take to the airport before he can rejoin the queue.

Based on the twisted thinking of HRCs and how they dealt with the seeing-eye-dog-in-the-muslim-taxi case they’ll find the building owner guilty for failing to provide a GLBTUXFYZ . . . (I can never keep up with the alphabet soup describing these folks) friendly hair salon immediately beside the muslim barbershop, unless of course the building is owned by a disabled black muslim woman in which case the city will be found guilty for not providing a safe multi-deity tradition safe environment for both the barber and the client and both will be compensated for the trauma which came from encountering each other.
Heck, if the owner of a taxi company can be found guilty when he was never even part of the complaint in the first place — why not?
The idea that maybe two people could simply chose not to have anything to do with each other is inconceivable in the surreal universe of HRCs.

I think it’s fun. Which of the two Identities is more fundamental in our noble Charter? Religion or gender? Religion is defined as a ‘fundamental right’, Section 2a..the first fundamental right, that ‘freedom of conscience and religion’.
But gender is, ah, merely an aspect of multiculturalist equality, Section 15a, and only refers to equal treatment under the law. Not equal treatment by your fellow citizens or by a private business.
So, will the Muslim win the case?
I’m sure if he were Christian, there’d be no question; he’d lose. But if he wins, then this sets a precedent so that Christian clergy can refuse to perform a gay marriage!

In a strange and sad way, Islamism is a gift in that it shows people for what they truly are. If (for example) equality is a modern virtue, note that a leftist/liberal will not stand for it in the midst of an Islamist. He or she may even go out of his or her way to speak against it. Political correctness, the leftist/liberal’s code of living, is not about what is just but about what is convenient. Nobody knows convenient like a leftist/liberal (NEVER a progressive as a true progressive supports forward thinking, not regression into the Stone Age).
I have to side with the Muslim barber. While it may be a fun spectacle to see favoured “victim” groups at war with one another, the fact is that the barber is trying to make a living and also trying to adhere to his religious beliefs, and even if he wins there are big costs that he does not deserve to have imposed on him.

The right involved is freedom of association, which is listed in section 2 of the Charter of Rights. The biggest problem is that the Supreme Court has eviscerated it in a bunch of rulings, such as Lavigne from 1991 and Advance Cutting and Coring from 2001, just as it has eviscerated many other Charter rights over the past couple of decades.
This one is a real dandy for the HRC Commissars,it will be fun to behold how they pretzelize themselves getting around it. It’s a bit of an overload for the Leftist brain.
