Out here in the middle of the country, our rural electric coop cuts tree limbs, replaces poles and did the only good think with stimulus money that I can think of… they upgraded the 70 year old power lines.
I used to travel a lot when I had a job, and I was always amazed at how the Northeastern States just let the trees grow over the power lines. In this part of the country, they have been trimming trees around power lines for at least 25 years.
I’ve been amazed at the lackadaisical response predisaster from the “leaders”, but the folks directly in line of the storm didn’t seem to do much in the way of preparing for it, either. I don’t think they’re going to survive the next four years.

I can state categorically from first hand experience that it happened in Andrew, too. FEMA has on its hands for 3 days before doing anything, but Home Depot and Walmart had supplies coming in within hours of the storm passing. No “price gouging” from either, just very busy clerks stocking shelves in Walmart (you have no idea how fast bottled water goes in August in Florida), and helpful advice from the Home Depot guys.
Not that Walmart and Home Depot have much presence in the Northeast. I know that getting one in Vermont caused great social disruption among the political classes, but the plebes flocked there once it opened. Imagine, a store that’s open after 6 pm and on weekends! My goodness, what a nice change!

The main difference between a USA run by democrats and a USA run by republicans is how the main stream media “reports” events. ( if we can call that reporting)
Obama is not doing much different from Bush but the main stream media makes it look like there is a huge difference.
