  1. “…the Luck of the Irish. Let’s talk about the “Luck of the Irish”.
    POTATO FAMINE!
Yeah, it scares ’em, doesn’t it. Well, it should – that’s why most of ’em came here in the first place…”

  2. What’s the old saying…?
“If I didn’t have bad luck; I wouldn’t have any at all.”
    Alternatively,
“I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it”

  3. Justthinking,
    Didn’t watch it did ya?
Carollas story is one of building his own success while coming from a welfare family background. Endlessly talks about hard work.

  4. I just wish that being lucky wasn’t such damn hard work. I consider myself lucky, but but medical practice opportunities can only be grasped by someone with the right qualifications and experience.
The more work experience and education in diverse areas a person has, the luckier they appear. It’s also necessary to snatch opportunities when they arise and worry about effects on lifestyle later.

  5. Eagle, you beat me to it.
“The harder I work, the luckier I get”, is a phrase that is on one of the first little calendar thermometer picture wall hanging thingy I got from a used car dealer in 1964 when I bought my first used car. It has hung on a wall where I see it everyday ever since.

  6. Somebody had to:
There is no such thing as luck; there is only adequate or inadequate preparation to cope with a statistical universe.
    Robert A. Heinlein

  7. Most people don’t recognize opportunity when it knocks because it’s dressed in overalls and is disguised as work.

  8. Nothing wrong with what Carolla is saying, but this is for one university course credit? I learned about as much listening to my Dad at the dinner table, and that’s even before we got to dessert.

  9. JDN
I greatly doubt that Prager University is an accredited University….if for no other reason than their position on matters counter to the academi-maoists……
Grasp that and you will be one of my better students.

  10. Hes right. Even during the NEP in Alberta, I went door to door. Looking for work. When I didn’t do volunteer (food Bank driving) stuff, I was house painting, Cutting tree’s down, building fences, doing lawns, even going to temporary work places.I went door to door.I got a good job, not because of sitting around. It was the fact I had done all these different jobs I got it.

  11. “Adam Carolla and the Ocutwits.Yup.Both know about this much about hard work…zilch.”
Don’t know very much about Adam Carolla do you? Before becoming a comedian and podcast host he worked construction doing earthquake mitigation in California. That means swinging in a harness on the sides of buildings. I think he knows more than his share about hard work.

  12. Somehow he delivers Life’s Lessons in 4 1/2 minutes in what can ususally take a Gr 10 social studies teacher a full year.

  13. I might buy that people get lucky breaks but when I hear luck in this context, it’s from people who just want to blame others for their problems. Some people worked their butts off to get where they are. That’s not luck or privilege and it’s insulting to claim it is.
