Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

3 words: California Derangement Syndrome
Qndps: not very different from quebecois derangement syndrome is it?
There is some logic to allowing domestic students pay lower tuition than foreign or out of province/out of state ones as the domestic students parents and businesses pay taxes that subsidize a huge portion of any students tuition. What’s needed is a voucher system where the school gets the same amount of funding per student regardless of where they come from. Clearly that is not how things work in ca.
Yep,the entire “system” in California is deranged, from tax and tax governments to highly pensioned civil servants,to the environmental lunatics to the education system.
And that is different from the Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI accepting Americans but not Albertans?
Maybe some student group will put 2 and 2 together and finally realize that there is a true cost and consequence to the nutty socialist agenda there. But, probably not…
Now it’s totally hip & cool to be an illegal in California. Most indigenous “legal” residents will need to give up their citizenship and re-cross the border to get a fair shake.
It’s not a lot different in Canada, foreign students and bilingual students get preferential status over a home grown, I dare say mainly white student that only speaks English.
If your European ancestor white grandparents built it, the Liberal Progressive left will insure that the Third world reaps the rewards, and that the true intended inheritors suffer their Liberal white guilt.
Dont kid yourself folks..this happens right here in Canada … in Alberta … at the Uof C. I know, cause I have a good friend in Admissions and she tells me exactly same thing. Although Albertans are not excluded .. they (UofC) certainly welcomes out of country students who pay a 50-90% premium on top of what Albertans pay. Why you ask..well, to me, it’s to pay for those lovely & large salaries given to the Unviersity President et all.
pretty simple. $$ talks and BS walks. way of the world.
My plan is to have no block funding. If you are an Alberta student going to An Alberta school a $10,000? grant follows you. If a school chooses to charge no tuition, so be it. Maybe the province could give scholarships for out of province students, say 1 or 2 % of enrollment.
Block funding leads to stupid decisions in hospitals and universities and schools. Make them work for their money and please some people so they come back to your institution.
Actually, Frances, it’s obviously different. Alberta does not run, and Albertans do not pay for, the PEI educational system. And veterinary studies are organized by region in this country. Albertans are expected to take theirs in Saskatoon. I’m not defending the arrangement, just pointing out that it’s entirely different from what we’re looking at here. The California college system exists to serve the people of California, and is open to criticism if it doesn’t. The PEI college system does not exist to serve the people of Alberta, even if that might be a good idea.
So it is all about the money. Go figure.
What an AWESOME opportunity to get rid of a couple thousand Lefty professors of Advanced Basket Weaving at U. Cal.
Remember friends, every cloud has a silver lining.
Read how the same thing is happening in Britain. They are reducing the number of native students they take so that they can take more higher fee paying foreigners. Other peoples money is rapidly running out everywhere.
Gord Tulk
I was thinking the same thing. In Canada if your Canadian, you become an Un-citizan or peon. Just another worker to keep special interest minorities above the majority of semi citizens. In jobs, housing or above the Law. While those who just arrive become our Masters.
Mean while those Canadians who have lived here for generations along with immigrants who came here to build this Nation, are daily vilified by the Police, CBC or Government. Heck a natural born or naturalized Canadian can’t even get a government job anymore. There reserved for the newly come, or some whining minority. The only true racists are the people who made this Country, the only criminals its workers.
Silver lining in a dark cloud. Its not like the well heeled foreigner is going to learn anything of value anyway. Look at all the good it had done the ‘educated’ class in the USA! If ‘educating’ foreigners keeps one American from being indoctrinated by the professorial fools in academe its a huge plus for the good guys.
Joe, well said, especially so in many disciplines.
Multiculturalism needs to recognize that the starving people of places like Haiti and other countries need to go to Africa and culturally enrich it!
They could use the labor resources to do those jobs African’s won’t do.
Africa needs the benefits of globalization more than anyone. No?
” Budget cuts made the system in the coming spring term unable to afford residents’ heavily discounted education, campus leaders were told.
”
I have a question.
Why didn’t these California geniuses take a page from their Quebec brethren’s political strategy book, and elect a genius like Pauline Marois to solve the problem?
