  1. And there’s another reason for a black market besides not paying taxes or overhead costs. Income taxes. Black market transactions are cash and not declared as income. So the individual doesn’t pay income taxes!
As I said, Quebec has a major problem with a huge black market economy and thus the government must tax ‘honest citizens’ at a high rate because it loses so much to the black market – and then, the black market increases because of those taxes! After all, Quebec can always rely for its financial needs on the Canadian taxpayer.

  2. The Ryan plan in an nutshell: no defence cuts; leave social security alone; no tax increases. In short the Republican Blueprint is bogus–almost as bad as what the Democrats would do. America is running $1T deficits as far as the eye can see. The voters may like the ticket in November, but the bond market won’t in January.

  3. Boy, you are being thick today ET. Only government can create a black market. Ask yourself this simple question: how can a black market exist without government?
Second, my comment about sexual choice was an.. now this a big word, so read it slowly.. a-n-a-l-o-g-y. It was meant to demonstrate that, even in an area where most people have very strong feelings (you may be different), I don’t believe I have the right to impose my views, just like I don’t believe I have the right to impose my views on lesser issues. I find your inability to recognize your innate desire to impose your morals on others bizarre.
Finally.. marijuana addiction?!? Excuse me for a moment… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I’ve known hundreds, if not thousands, of people who’ve smoked marijuana at one time or another, and I don’t know a single “addict”. If our friend Loki is still reading this thread, I’m willing to bet that he’ll say in his medical career he’s had to deal with people withdrawing from opiates, alcohol, sedatives, etc., but never pot. This is just another example of you wishing to impose your morals on others, and dressing it up with make-believe about ‘social and psychological’ costs. How are you any different from the eco-weenies with their carbon taxes – another case of moralists using fairy tales as their ‘reason’ for imposing their views on others, and feeling all smug and self-satisfied about it?
Either one believes s/he doesn’t have the right to impose her/his moral views upon others, as I do, or one believes one can, like NYC’s Bloomie. In which case, as I tried to point out, after doughnuts, salt, and soda, where does one draw the line? I know it makes people, such as Babs Falby (excoriated in a different thread) feel oh so superior to dictate how others should live, but that’s a pleasure I’m willing to forego. If what you’re doing isn’t directly harming me, then go ahead. Your business isn’t my business.
And, just to bring this marginally back on topic, I thought that what made America great was that “MYOB” used to be the order of the day. Remember that great line, dished out in so many movies and novels, “It’s a free country, isn’t it?”. Well, pace Bambam, Bloomie, and Bawney, it ain’t so free any more. Perhaps Romney/Ryan might, ironically considering they are members of the Mormons and the Catholics, two of the great moralizing institutions in history, restore the MYOB ethos in America.

  4. I could not have said it better Kevin Bacon I would only add that the ‘dangers’ of most drugs have been grossly exaggerated by government propaganda (the cop at your school lied). LSD is impossible to get addicted to. MDMA is harmless. Few get addicted to cocaine.
