  1. Live by the streets, die by the streets. The radicals asked for this. People stood in line for over an hour to get lunch, just to show support.
This boycott has become a buycott. So far, Obama’s advocacy of gay marriage isn’t working out at all. Way to stage a mass political meeting that unifies your opposition.

  2. Is that supposed to be a cow in the GLAAD solicitation? Isn’t a Chick-fil-A combo a chicken filet? Seems to be a little confusion there.

  3. “unifies your opposition”
I wish we were unifying our opposition of important things like massive overregulation and huge defecits instead of something as unimportant as preventing gays from getting married. Defeating Obama is the most important thing right now though.
I’m not sure how unified we are on this issue though, surely most Conservative Christians are against gay marriage, but I’m sure many others don’t really give a rat’s a**.
Dude has a right to say and believe what he wants though, and the media doesn’t have the right to try to destroy a private business over the beliefs of it’s owners. I guess that trumps everything else. I would certainly support him and his right to say what he wants, but I wouldn’t support the content.

  4. Keep the pressure on America, this isn’t about opinions, it is about the liberal/demoncrat lefti-nazis who want to shove their warped beliefs down everyones throat, be it glowball warming, same sex, bestiality, welfare for everyone, whatever, these things and creeps, behind every demented campaign are the same, they have useless lives so they want to make the decent peoples lives as miserable as theirs, that is liberalism folks, it is a dead end brainless way to live.

  5. “I wish we were unifying our opposition of important things like massive overregulation and huge defecits instead of something as unimportant as preventing gays from getting married.”
This isn’t about gay marriage it’s just a bit of pushback from people who are tired of being lectured to and threatened by fanatics on the left. This is a warning shot and you can be sure it’s being noticed by the White House.

  6. As EBD has pointed out in the tips thread, this issue has essentially nothing to do with gays and lesbians.
‘Social ‘rights’ and I’ll include marriage in these are social decisions and are not fundamental human rights. The only fundamental or natural rights are those of life, liberty and the freedom to pursue happiness. Period. Then come the political rights that enable the above fundamental rights: freedom of speech, belief, association, religion.
It is these natural rights that are under attack by these mayors and the left. Essentially, Emanual and the other in government and the media are saying that you, a citizen, may hold only one belief, in order to have the freedom to participate in this society.
Notice that the CEO of Chick-fil-A isn’t refusing to hire gays or serve them. No, he’s just defending his belief against same-sex marriage. That’s his right.
But for a government to declare that your beliefs must match theirs – is unbelievable.
That’s astonishing. That’s Stalinism, Maoism; it’s the Inquisition; it’s the Third Reich. It’s fascism.
Where, for example, is Obama on this? Didn’t he swear to defend the Constitution? Why doesn’t he stand up and declare that in ‘my country’ (I’ll give him yet another self-reference) freedom of belief is a basic human right?
What is equally depressing is how easily we so-called modern and enlightened slip into fascism, how we slip into hatred of those who believe differently, how we insist that everyone must believe as we do.
And why doesn’t the left, who are so fired up about this, mention that in Emanual’s Illinois, it’s illegal to have same-sex marriages? Why don’t they protest in front of Emanual’s office?
Why doesn’t the left protest in front of mosques? After all, Islam rejects not merely same-sex marriages but even the reality of gays and lesbians.
Is there, in addition to this bigotry and fascism by the left, another level to their hatred? Are they also against the economic success of this restaurant?

  7. The GLAAD types think they have more influence than they think. In the general population gays may represent 2% whereas in the media they may be up to 50%, so their issues are always front and centre and not representative of their numbers in reality. Having drank their own Koolaid they seem to think they can influence enough people to affect a national business into conforming to their views.
    Reality bites.

  8. Who jumped the shark and said this man needed to be fired for not selling chicken?
    WORLD RECORD
    HA

  9. I know this issue is not about gay marriage. For me this specific issue is about the man being bullied by government and media too. I think it’s a little stupid to say something that might alienate some business, but hey it’s his restaurant he can do what he wants, and it’s true of others on the left as well (Hollywood mostly).
I am however a conservative gay surrounded by “sound byte” lefties who really aren’t lefty but don’t know any better because due to the media they thing both sides are the same except Conservatives hate gays and women but lefties support them whole heartedly. It’s not true and it’s an awful image that we have.
Those vote cancelers SDA was talking about yesterday, they are created by moments like these. Not because our side is doing anything wrong, just that the left and the media WILL make this all look like a protest against gay marriage, WILL take the most ignorant comments they can find and broadcast them nationally and will purposely miss the real point. We won’t change long term opinions on size of government, benefits and entitlements, taxation, regulation and deficit spending when the media (and indeed even the education system) is telling all the kids (who aren’t giving us the benefit of the doubt and learning on their own what it’s all really about) that Republicans are evil.

  10. “Why doesn’t the left protest in front of mosques? After all, Islam rejects not merely same-sex marriages but even the reality of gays and lesbians”
I don’t like to think down that road because it’s scary. The things the left doesn’t do says as much about their ultimate goals as the things they do do. They clearly don’t care about gays or women or anything, only their votes.

  11. Agreed, steve, this issue is not about gays. It’s about freedom. In this instance, it’s freedom of speech, belief, religion.
Notice further that Rahm Emanual is effectively saying that such values as freedom of speech, belief and religion are NOT ‘Chicago values’. He’s rejecting the CEO of Chick-fil-A’s freedom to speak and believe and saying that such is against the values of Chicago. Hmm.
And this is apart from Emanual daring to self-define himself as speaking for all the residents of Chicago.
But add to that, other intrusions on the rights of individuals by Obama’s governance, where individualism is denigrated, where wealth is defined as theft and greed, where the freedom of hard work is considered irrelevant…and we have not merely a socialist regime but a fascist one.

  12. I think the best way to handle this is to abolish the very notion of marriage altogether. If people (men or women in any possible combination) want to live together fine. But the state should simply treat people as individual and that’s all.
separation of the state and the marriage.
Personally I prefer the single life. Much better.

  13. This isn’t about gay marriage…
Maybe it isn’t just about homosexual marriage, but it is definitely partly about homosexual marriage.
Anyway, proves the point that one Christian and God make a majority. Just takes a Christian with balls to do it God’s way.

  14. Just so’s ya know… I’m not gay. I don’t care if you are. It’s your business, not mine, and I don’t even wanna know. I also don’t want it shoved down my throat day after day (figuratively, of course).
For a gov’t to prohibit you from operating a business because of its beliefs is contrary to the Constitution. The business has the right to operate its business within the law. Chic-fil-A is not even advocating anything against the law, it’s simply expressing its opinion, and acting within its rights.
What I find fascinating is the gay community thinking it’s smarter, more sophisticated, more socially advanced……. but it can’t reproduce. That, friends, is called “natural selection” at work.

  15. This was just a little precursor to the voter streams we will see in November, although the MSM will work feverishly to hide that angle.
But why wasn’t Mittens at a Chik-fil-a yesterday?

  16. I’ll be satisfied when we see more gays speaking out about being fed up with being pawns.
Gays…come out of the closet and explain that you love Chick fil A, and that you have never been refused business…

  17. I’m pretty certain he is/was still in Europe, Doug. And I’m fairly certain he’s already on the record for being against SSM.

  18. Sry for overdoing the posts here:
andycanuck…Mitt should be standing up for the CEO who spoke his mind, and pointing out that gays have the choice/freedom to purchase Chick fil A, and work there, and that MSM/Hollywood cannot control the USA.
    This isn’t about SSM.

  19. The focus needs to be kept on the freedom of speech and freedom of religion issues rather than if Chick-fil-A is or is not anti gay (which is what the politicians and MSM are trying to turn this into). The UK article linked is turning this into how horrid the US is to gays when this have little to do with your support or non-support for gays.

  20. To those that say this issue is not about gays or lesbians, but rather about everyone bending to the left’s relentless efforts to remake western societies are right.

  21. Chic-fil-A agrees with the law of 98% of countries and 98% of US states yet is somehow perverse.

  22. DJ – great points but just one minor quibble. Chick-fil-A was NOT expressing its position. The CEO, an individual, was expressing his personal belief. [This is apart from the fact that businesses have no capacity for reason or thought or speech.]
bluetech- I’d agree with you; gays are being used as pawns by the Obama Gang in this election. They want to bind the leftist vote to the Democrats. The Democrats are even going to have, as part of their election platform, the ‘right’ of gay marriage. It’s all about votes, ie, power, for them.
fiddle – no, you sound like the inverse of Rahm Emanual. Your way or no way. This is not about gay marriage. Kindly note that Rahm Emanual has done nothing about legalizing gay marriage in his own city of Chicago where it is illegal.
This is about and only about a natural right of human freedom. The freedom of the individual to believe, to speak, to debate, to argue. The left and the government are trying to deny people this fundamental right and are insisting that only one belief system is acceptable.
quebecois, that’s a naive statement. Marriage is a reproductive and ‘metabolic’ unit, so to speak. It’s about generating and raising the next generation of society. It’s also about linking families together within economic and social bonds and duties. Isolate individuals don’t create strong societies and our species is, by genetic composition, a social species.

  23. There were other politicians photographed at Chick fil a, Sarah and Todd, Ted Cruz in Texas served it at his Primary win on tuesday, and Michelle Bachmann,
One of the Wendy’s franchise owners in the Carolinas had placed on their signage out front, “We Stand With Chick fil a” for the day… (photo @ Huffington Post, no link provided by me)
I’m not surprised that some of the franchises ran out of food. People have been subjected to political correctness for so long that when someone steps out of line and remembers their freedom of speech, it stops the entire bus so we can have a bite, of freedom.

  24. Is that supposed to be a cow in the GLAAD solicitation? – murray at 8:53am
Yes, it is. For a few years now, Chick-fil-A has been running a series of print ads with Holsteins holding up hand-written (or maybe hoof-written) signs saying “Eat Mor Chikn”. (Yes, Holsteins aren’t beef cattle, but what the hey….)
Hence the cow in the advert above.

  25. Did GLAAD wake a sleeping lion? Is this their jumping of the shark? Will Conservatives continue to show up to riot after this?

  26. This is not about gay marriage. – ET
You’re right, it’s about supporting normal families. The positive, as opposed to the negative.
“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit…” – Dan Cathy

  27. ET.
The funny part about (Rahm Emanual) he had Louis Farrakhan over just the other day.
Don’t tell me Louis is not one of the biggest Gay haters and racist of all times. But the left say’s zip!

  28. It is, in part, fiddle, about people supporting ‘normal families’ just as it is also about Democrats trying to get the vote of the left. After all, gay marriage is only recognized in, to my understanding, six US states. Marriage is a social construct not a natural right (ie, monogamy, polygamy, polyandry are social constructs) and is thus subject to a belief system.
Therefore and above all this situation is about the constitutional right to have and develop a belief, to speak, debate and argue about it, to even institutionalize it within a religion or other set of beliefs.
The left, with their intolerance to this individual freedom to think and believe, is rejecting this constitutional right. They insist that their particular views are the only ones that are ‘right’ and thus acceptable in the economic and political realms. This is fascism.

  29. I’m personally ambivalent on the subject of same sex marriage. I don’t give a damn whether these folks marry or not. It’s their choice.
What I am not ambivalent about is this rush by every special interest group to scream boycott every time someone expresses a viewpoint with which they disagree. Both progressives and conservatives engage in this nonsensical practice. It’s as if they can only validate their position by gathering a mob to support them. I’ve been boycotting Sears for over fourty years and I don’t require someone to tell me “yeah man, go” to know that I will continue this boycott until the day I die.

  30. Therefore and above all this situation is about the constitutional right to have and develop a belief, to speak, debate and argue about it, to even institutionalize it within a religion or other set of beliefs.
You can frame it however your imagination allows, but that’s not what Dan Cathy said.

  31. fiddle – I’m not talking about Dan Cathy and his particular beliefs. I’m neither supporting nor rejecting his beliefs. That’s not the issue.
I’m talking about the right of an individual, any individual, to have and develop and speak about a a belief. Period.
The left are intolerant of this basic constitutional right. That’s what this is all about – not Dan Cathy’s personal beliefs.

  32. ET and some others touched upon the bigger picture reality of what’s going on here: It is critically important to the Obama Campaign to cause an “us & them” rift amongst several key groups:
    – Women
    – Blacks
    – Hispanics
    – Homosexuals
    – Public sector workers
This really hit home to me in early July when two friends from Chicago (mother & daughter) mentioned several times “how deeply Republicans and the Tea Party are at war against women”. These ladies absolutely believe this. They’re both highly intelligent, at least about business. It goes to show how effective the propaganda emanating from the Democrat Party has been.

  33. Fleas- I don’t eat cows, I eat steers.
By the way, up to 55% of ground beef is made up of cow meat. When Bossie gets old and unproductive, she’s sent to the big grinder in the sky. I grind my own hamburger now.

  34. fiddle,
Just like the American revolution was NOT just about taxes on tea, this buycott was just the focus for much more. It is the principle of freedom.

  35. That’s what this is all about – not Dan Cathy’s personal beliefs.
For not being about his beliefs and what he actually said, it sure got a lot of people talking about the implied negative of his statement.
Like I said, you can frame it however your little imagination allows.
Interesting though, he does more business in six days than other businesses in the malls do in seven. Not that there ever was a Biblical restriction on doing business on Sundays, but showing respect counts for a lot.

  36. Yes the issue is about freedom and how the left and gay supremcacists have joined forces to destroy free speech and freedom of conscience. The world got a front row seat to view the hatred violence and profanity laced vernacular of the feral leftwing loons in the US. I hope those supremacists like the taste of venom laced crow.

  37. Not sure if this point has been made, since I just skimmed.
The GLAAD ‘kiss-in’ is scheduled for Friday, where they intend to go to Chick-Fil-A stores, kiss each other and order water. That’s Friday, as in tomorrow.
My suggestion is that the same people who showed up on Wednesday show up again on Friday, have their own heterosexual kiss-in and order more sandwiches.

  38. fiddle – you are ignoring, for some reason, the basic issue in this situation. That is the right of an individual to freedom of belief.
You are focusing only on Dan Cathy’s belief, just as did the mayors of Chicago, Boston and SF.
You are, with your sneering reference to my ‘little imagination’ ignoring that the reality (not imaginary) basis of the situation is that the mayors of three major US cities suddenly spoke out about Dan Cathy’s beliefs and told the public that such beliefs were not permitted in ‘their cities’.
Doesn’t that bother you? That government told an individual citizen that he must hold one and only one belief or he would not be permitted to work in ‘their’ cities?
This is fascism. You totally and utterly ignore this act of fascism. Why?

  39. ET, you go right ahead cutting off tails of snakes in a vain attempt to kill them. You have your words, Dan Cathy has more than his words.
Dan Cathy focused on what’s real. And backed up his statements with more of what’s real, more business.

  40. fiddle – it wasn’t my words against Cathy’s beliefs. It was the words of three mayors of major US cities. You ignore what these three mayors said. Why?
Doesn’t it bother you, that the government said that an individual could only work in ‘their’ city if he believed in one point of view? It’s so odd that you utterly ignore this violation of freedom by the left. Incredible.

  41. Doesn’t it bother you, that the government said that an individual could only work in ‘their’ city if he believed in one point of view? It’s so odd that you utterly ignore this violation of freedom by the left.
Well, it seems those threats came to nought, seeing as all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. A little thing called the Constitution.
    Your issue is a non-issue.

  42. This is what you call a spontaneous grass-roots uprising. KaBANG, Barry. That was the sound of your election bus hitting a bridge abutment.
In other news there was a sharp drop in water pressure as thousands of Washington DC Dems had their bowels loosened by abject terror and had to run for the bathroom.
ET said: “But for a government to declare that your beliefs must match theirs – is unbelievable.”
I agree. It really is unbelievable. But its worse than that. As Steve Burton said above, the fact that the Lefties don’t pillory Muslim hate-preachers indicates they really don’t give a damn about women or gays, women’s “rights” and gay marriage are merely -tactics- for them, not even strategies.
What the Big Dems are really saying is that if you object to anything they say, even something that’s just a throw-away straw man, they’re going to sic the cops on you Russian-style.
The full-on Soviet police state is the thing they’re working toward. Every step they take, every policy, trick, lie, propaganda move, all of it is directed straight toward that. Rahm Emmanuel wants to be able to pick up the phone and have the Chic-fil-A guy chucked in the slammer. He’s joined in that wish by every DemocRat politician in the USA and at least half the blue-state Republicans.
Americans may seem out to lunch on TV, but the fact that 9mm and 5.56mm is chronically back-ordered across the country in big towns and small ones too tells me that the TV lies. People know. And they are preparing themselves.

  43. Much as I’m glad to see the gays hoist on their own petard (and loving it, no doubt), this is the same issue as the Vancouver pizzeria dissed here a few days ago.
Companies should sell their products, not their morals. I like chick-fil-a products; too bad they’re hard to get in the Northeast. But I’m not any more or less likely to buy a sandwich because the owners like or dislike gays. I don’t care. As a libertarian, if someone chooses to be gay (and I do believe it is a choice, not genes), that’s his/her business. So long as they are not trying to make me pay for, for example, proseltyzation of their lifestyle or for accomodation of it (LGBT bathrooms, for gawd’s sake? Pick one, and do your business!), I really don’t care what they do.
So, while I’m glad Chick-fil-a isn’t suffering because of its owners’ positions, I don’t think it should profit from those positions, either. Just make and sell a good chicken sandwich. That’s all I ask.

  44. heh.. just realized that wasn’t it just a few months ago that Obama claimed to share exactly the same views? Did he get a letter saying he wasn’t welcome back in Chicago and I missed the media storm?

  45. I’m listening to Dennis Prager’s show this morning. It’s his 64th b’day by the way.
Anyhow, he made an interesting comparison between Chick-fil-A and Ben & Jerry’s. The first is a company clearly run by a person on the Right. The second is a company clearly run by people on the Left.
Have you ever heard of conservatives organizing a boycott against Ben & Jerry’s? Of course not! (Note: There was a minor boycott against one particular flavour but that’s not the same thing.)
Why this entire Chick-fil-A incident is so important is because it provides an important “teaching moment” – namely, teaching all around the world how incredibly against Free Speech those on the Far Left are – be they GLAAD or assorted Democrat mayors, or the liberal members of the MSM.
Yesterday was important because it was a clear sign that Americans are FED UP with such totalitarian notions and aren’t going to take it anymore.
P.S. Who would have ever thought that Mitt Romney’s campaign might be saved by a chicken sandwich?!
