Never forget;
The Conservative government is pardoning a group of farmers who were arrested for trying to sell their wheat under the old law governing the Canadian Wheat Board’s monopoly as they mark the first day on which prairie producers can sell outside the board.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the announcement this afternoon at a farm outside Kindersely, Sask.
“Never, never again” will western farmers alone be punished for trying to sell the wheat they grew on their land, Harper said to a round of applause.
Well Done Prime Minister.

I am so proud of our Prime Minister. I just heard the tape of his speech on CFRA in Ottawa, where he pardoned those farmers and tears came to my eyes. Thank you Stephen Harper!!!

A pardon is better than letting the issue drag on, but this would be a good time to issue compensation for wrongs committed.

Unfortunately, the definition of “Never, never again” is “until the Conservatives lose an election.”
The Conservatives won’t be in power for ever, maybe not after the next election. Sooner or later they will go down to defeat. If either the NDP or Libs win a majority or together hold the balance of power we should expect them to re-instate the CWB.
The Liberals won’t reinstate the monopsony. They know when to let go, even if they are slow to learn. With the NDP…who knows?

This is just as positive a development as the brilliant stroke of eliminating the mandatory census form a year ago.
For many years I yearned for this day. I hoped that it would happen during my farming career, but at least I lived long enough to see it happen, and I’m thankful for that. Thanks Steve, Gerry and the rest of the CPC; a great day for freedom in Canada. Keep at it, there’s still a lot of crap to clean up.

Total farm receipts……………..49.70Billion
Non crop/non livestock pymts………3.48 ”
Of which:
1.3 B were crop insurance pymts. a shared program between farmer and govt.
.459 B provincial stabilization pymts, not available in Sask.
1.16 B Agrinvest/Aristability pymts. a shared program between farmer and govt.
The government’s cost,excluding the wages and benefits of the bureaucrats that administer these farm programs is minute when considered as a percentage of total farm sales.
In other words Phil, your costs as a taxpayer to support that lavish lifestyle down on the farm is pretty small indeed.
It’s about time something was done. I watched the speach live and I was proud of our Prime Minister.
One step at a time, folks. Since we’re mostly conservatives and believe in the rule of law…use this opportunity to write to your MPs. I’d suggest that even urban folks should do this. This would ensure that our MPs know that we want a “freer” country. Imagine if your MP were to receive a few thousand e-mails/letters stating that those milk quotas, etc should now start coming down here in Ontario much like the quotas were done away with in the Prairies.

Since only prairie farmers had to sell through the CWB while Ontario and Quebec farmers were exempt, one would think it’s a no-brainer that such discrimination is unconstitutional and contravenes the charter. But I seem to recall a court case on that very issue that the farmer lost.
The NDP will try it for certain, the Libs, maybe.

In 2010/2011 the SK Dept of Ag incurred expenses of $482.3 million, almost a $500.00 per capita tax hit, not even counting the federal portion. Hardly chump change.

If 54.53 million dollars came from the federal government then your per capita figure for Sask residents is bogus. The entire population of Canada is responsible for that 54.53 million.
