Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Well why not.I mean cities like Tarawana,Morontreal,Drugcouver allow live, outdoor p0rn with gay parades every year,so why not a library in Californicated?Besides, you can know see who the pervs are exactely(not counting the obvious leftard ones in charge).
Screens, schmeens.
Wait till they put in “wank rooms”
What next, box of tissues at every computer? What’s with the gay & lesbean reading rooms? I imagine the chicken choker’s “reading” room is in the process of being built.
Wet naps. They forgot the wet naps.
That said, installing the screens was probably much less expensive than the freedom of speech challenges that would be mounted (no pun intended) had they filtered porn from the library computers.
Our local library system had free and open wi-fi for a time. I pointed out to the librarians that having an unsecured network was not a good idea — anyone could sit out in the parking lot and download prawn or do other creepy stuff. The librarians got all indignant about how this was a resource for the PEOPLE and only a hater like me would want to deny the PEOPLE a service. Sure enough, after the town received cease-and-desist letters over software and intellectual property piracy and turned up in a Canada-wide child prawnography investigation, the service was shut down.
A victory for the PEOPLE, I guess.
Justthinkin, agreed.
Sodom and Gomorrah.
Being San Fran, they probably do filter religious sites.
“We’re always looking for any kind of elegant solution that strikes a balance between the right to privacy and folks that want to use the library for any other intended purpose,”
Read “gay” for “elegant”; for anybody that doesn’t have their SanFrancisco fabulous decoder ring on.
What is the difference between a library that allows people to watch hard core porn and a sleazy porn business in the red light district? I can see a bunch of these people masturbating in these little cubicles. Sick world.
I’m not sure why, but this story reminds me of an old “Freak Brothers” cartoon, where they get involved in a university riot. Fat Freddy is sent to take over the library, where he approaches the elderly, bespectacled librarian and demands “Where are the f**k books?”.
She replies, in increasingly loud and scary tones, “Young man, this is the library of the University of California. We.. do.. not.. have.. F**K BOOKS!!!”
Today, of course, she would say “Over there, in section P”.
“But library officials told her that nothing like that would be done, although the facility has designated rooms such as the James Hormel Gay and Lesbian Reading Center that caters to homosexual clientele.”
Sorry,but I couldn’t stop laughing when I read THAT!
I have just experienced a religious conversion, and will begin praying to the Saint of San Andreas right after breakfast.
I thought that SF already had a surfeit of locations where one could view pron or take in live sex shows. Then, of course, there’s the queer pride parade where geriatric genitalia are on public display.
Perhaps a high tech solution is the best way of sending people to the existing pron outlets rather than using the library. Have a program which, when it detects pron, will substitute a nude, animated, image of Libby Davis for the nude female in the original. I’m sure there’s an equally repulsive male counterpart to her in homosexual pron. This solution may require the installation of vomit buckets next to the monitors, but it will likely cut down dramatically on pron viewing in the library.
I see nothing wrong with having open WiFi connections and rely on them to check my email when traveling. The excuse to close open connections because someone might download kiddie pron is analogous to restricting vehicles on public roads because a bank robber might utilize the road to escape his crime.

jeeeezzzzuuuuuu,Loki. Don’t give them any ideas!
Is this for the destitute, who can’t afford computers? For children, who have conservative parents?
The one thing sure is, that this will not last.
The library may actually be the only place where its safe(ish) to download pr0nz. Or anything else you don’t want Uncle Sam knowing about.
rt.com/usa/news/nsa-whistleblower-binney-drake-978/
“…in a candid interview with journalist Geoff Shively during HOPE, the ex-NSA official candidly revealed the full extent of the surveillance program.”
“Domestically, they’re pulling together all the data about virtually every U.S. citizen in the country and assembling that information, building communities that you have relationships with, and knowledge about you; what your activities are; what you’re doing. So the government is accumulating that kind of information about every individual person and it’s a very dangerous process,” Binney said.”
NSA has access to all Google’s records, those of every ISP, the main DNS server logs, all credit card and retail store databases, email, cell phones, the lot. They can, and it seems have, put a name to every data transaction made in the USA. Also Canada, Europe, etc.
Meaning if they want to know every damn thing that’s passed across your computer screen and everybody you talk to in your life, they do. That whole dossier is automatically being created and updated minute by minute, and its sitting on a server waiting for some gummint employee to idly wonder who you are.
So if you want to look at feelthy pictures without potentially the entire world knowing… which describes 90% of males and probably 85% of females (boys, those darn girls LIE about that)… maybe the library is your friend.
Perhaps there’s hope for the dead-tree media after all. Hard to track what everybody in the country paid cash for at the news stand, ain’t it?
I predict free-standing, hard wired surfing spots like blacked out telephone booths will become commonplace in the next ten years, right after it is revealed that the US government (and every other government) has been keeping track of your toothpaste purchases and using them in some insane scheme to tax you even more. Or possibly kill you, depending who you are and what your views on gun control or union retirement plans might be.
Given all that, still gotta say EWWW! to the scumbag surfing pr0nz at the library. Get a room, weirdo.
I hope the Janitors Union strikes over this. Someone’s gotta clean up under those tables.
Well, this is certainly good news for pedophiles on a day pass.
What the hell planet are we on?
Sex,oil & guns.
I worked in San Francisco for nearly two years (right across the street from UN Plaza, June 1999 – April 2001), and, even after that, the things that happen there absolutely astound (and nauseate) me.
When do they install inflatable dolls?
As Micheal Savage would say….
San Fran Sicko!
