Let’s Erect A Plaque At 787 Dundas St W To Remember Jack Layton

Keep flappin’ those gums, Mulcair;

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall said on Monday comments made by federal NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair about the country’s resources sectors are “very, very divisive.” […]
Wall also weighed in via social media, posting on Twitter on Monday morning, “If @ThomasMulcair thinks a strong resource sector is a “disease”, what is his “cure”? Higher resource taxes? NDP needs to explain” and that, “Resources have been the cure not the problem, NDP.” The remarks were in response to comments made by Mulcair on Saturday when he said that, because of the way it raises the value of the Canadian dollar, other parts of the country are paying a price for the prosperity enjoyed by natural resource sectors.
Mulcair pointed to the oilsands in Alberta as a case in point. “It’s by definition the ‘Dutch disease,’ ” Mulcair said Saturday on the CBC Radio show, The House, referring to what happened to the Netherlands economy in the 1960s after vast deposits of natural gas were discovered in the nearby North Sea.

  1. If mulch hair really wants to boost the manufacturing sector, make a proposal that we don’t have to pee money away on bilingualism in the trades. The cost of doubling up on everything is astronomical, when two languages are forced on the industry. Or lets take it further, get rid of that effing metric system and used the same system as our biggest trading partners..
Even better, decertify a whole pack of unions…

  2. Why would anyone get upset about anything the idiot NDP says or does?
Pandering to the stupid is their stock in trade.
Quebec will always be Quebec. There is no French society anywhere in the world that can’t find someone else to blame their shortcomings on.
Now as always, I remind you westerners that without the Ontario voter you would have PM Iggy today. Conservative Ontario is currently in the clutches of leftist Toronto. That party is coming to an end and the next election should produce a Tory win.
Sask. is blessed to have removed their NDP scourge for the time being.
Ontario is an ally for conservatives in the west. Alberta also has it’s lefty problems so the vitriol shown by some commenter’s against Ontario is more akin to leftist’s rants.
    Smug, juvenile and unseemly.

  3. Brad Wall does have a touch of the windmill disease, but unlike McGuinty I think it’s still treatable.

  4. I can see the only solution to this constant display of hatred for the Oilsands by eastern socialist demagogues is to remove its tax revenues from the general coffers that go to equalization payments. That way the morally superior easten socialists need not soil themselves with the filthy revenues from the hated oilsands.

  5. Thanks, Brad – now where is OUR premier, Alison REDford, in this mess? Hello? Are you there?

  6. I think what the adult toddlers (AKA socialists or liberals) are giving us is class warfare. It all goes back to the age-old emotion of envy. There was a time in our society when we controlled this emotion and celebrated each others successes. Now it seems we have switched polarity and exploit envy for political purposes. It is no longer the “envier” that is in need of repair, but rather the “envied”. They are made to feel guilty for being successful and their penance is an attempt to assuage the inflamed envy of the enviers by various means, including redistribution, reverse discrimination, etc. When a society allows envy to run amok, the incentive for progress grinds to a halt and poverty for all will surely follow.

  7. Forgive me for harping on the “Dutch Disease”, but one of the first things one learns about the Netherlands is that there never was much of a manufacturing sector.
Trade, yes!! Holland controls access to Germany, through the Rhine and through railways. As early as the mid-1800’s Utrecht was a major rail hub of northwestern Europe.
It isn’t by chance that Rotterdam is one of the world’s largest ports! It is not just to service a country of 13 million people.
Finance is also important in the Netherlands, naturally. But manufacturing? Philips, part of Unilever – not much more. The other major Dutch firm is Royal Dutch Shell.
As for the reality of the “Dutch Disease”, how come Germany, Denmark, Norway, England, Scotland never suffered from it?
Thomas Mulcair is a boob. No knowledge of economics and he also seems geography-challenged.

  8. I tried to send a message to Nathan Baby but got the following error message “You are not authorized to perform this action.” Anybody succeed in using the link?

  9. @ Zog at May 8, 2012 4:50 PM
I got through with no problems. Perhaps he is being bombarded. Try again .

  10. Well Cullen isn’t too much of a drama queen, hmmm?
The rolling of the eyes while pouting that the “conservatives are way more divisive than us” was quite a response. If I didn’t see it on CBC, I could have sworn it was a parody.

  11. Zog, I got through earlier today.
John Lewis, some good points there about the other European countries.

  12. Freeloading, rural conservative, welfare bum, teabagging farmers of the small dead variety are the disease. Joe had the cure.

  13. Nothing is said by the Progressive of Redford’s Party. Simply because they in principle agree.
    This Province shamed itself.
It took a dive for Socialism, to be popular. Worked out well for America too eh?
I hope you enjoy your shrinking checks, than eventual NEP like bust brought on by the Communists you voted in. Was trying to be a cool kid worth it when your swimming in poverty, taxes, than loony left scams?

  14. Does he even know who he was talking about? His credibility was blown away in the early part of his statement as he stumbled to identify who was saying what with little idea who is dividing Canada.

  15. So Peterj is that pipeline going to go thru to the coast or not? I maintain that the enviro freaks are leading the natives around up there, by their wallets. There is a ton of money coming in from the US and it is being used very effectively to form opinions. It gives these asses reason to don their phoney apparel and inflict thier power on the locals.

  16. I took your advice and sent this note to Mr. Cullen:
Mr. Cullen, You and your party have lost touch with reality. Actually the question is whether your party ever grasped reality to begin with. I believe your ultimate goal is to leave Canadian’s freezing in the dark. Take a look around the world Mr. Cullen. Take a good look. Socialist policies are destroying Europe. The NDP want to follow in the footsteps of these nations … why????? Nations that consume energy, namely western nations, are the most desirable places to live on the planet. You take that away, and we have no choice but to move to warmer climates. Windmills or Cuisinarts as they are commonly referred to are killing birds by the tens of thousands per wind farm. There is no way to store Solar. And any of these energy devices are so inefficient that you have to back them all up with coal, or natural gas fired plants. The are horrendously expensive, just look at Ontario’s policy of buying wind first. Every time it is windy there, they have to steam the nuclear reactors to be able to take the wind power. It sends the costs sky rocketing. Look at Britain, during its past 3 extremely cold winters. Everytime the temps dipped, the windmills were not turning!! The elderly are now energy poor and riding busses all day or sitting in malls to stay warm. To survive for God sakes. And all of this based on unproven science makes me sick! The transfer payments that come from Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan alone is the reason the spoiled little brats in Quebec only pay 1/3 the price of University tuition that Alberta and other provinces pay. Your comments and your leaders comments are truly divisive to this country. After hearing them, I have changed my mind and am fully supportive of forming a new Country called Western Canada. The rest of the lazy entitlement driven socialists in Eastern Canada can then get off their asses and maybe contribute to replace what they have lost from Western Canada. Or freeze in the dark.
I implore you to re-think your policies, and quite frankly to smarten up!!!!
    Good day.

  17. Dear Mr. Cullen:
Stupid and bizarre is the only way to characterize your and Mulcair’s comments regarding Canada’s natural resources. But of course your party aspires to emulate the economy of Greece. Next you’ll be suggesting we adopt the drachma as our national currency. You need to apologize to all Canadians for your thoughtlessness! Better yet move your entire apparatchik to Quebec so we can boot the whole lot of you parasites out of Confederation!

“So Peterj is that pipeline going to go thru to the coast or not?”
My guess would be yes, but there again this is Cullen NDP dipper country so there will be a real fight to get it through. 90% of the opposition comes out of Vancouver from the usual bunch of sh1t disturbers but recent poll show majority of BC approves the pipeline. They may have to make a few logical concessions like double hull tankers only or even double hull pipeline with leak sensors where they can’t bury it, but I would lay money on it going through.

  19. The NDP have a Hidden agenda to bring back the NEP program, what’s next troops in our streets?

  20. @ kingsblood at May 9, 2012 12:09 AM
The NDP is self destructing so fast that all the Liberals have to do is shut up to win official opposition status next election. In a few short weeks Mulcair has alienated the rural vote with his support to maintaining the gun registry and alienated the west with his stupid attack on the oily economic engine that now supports his basket case provinces. The man is a true mental midget and we still have 3 years to go. He does not have the personality Jack had or the ability to bullsh1t with false credibility the way Jack did. He has all the charm of a hardened turd. I asked Cullen not to hang pictures in his office with nails as he would be leaving next election, as will most NDP watermellons, even in BC wingnut heaven, better known as southern and central BC. Mulcair will be a true gift to all the other parties….except greens, because even Vancouver is not that stupid. Of course every province needs their village idiot so Liz May could hang on to her seat , just as Libby Davis has. Just can’t buy that kind of entertainment.

  21. Everytime I see the bearded clam Mulcair’s lips start to move, it reminds me of Rin Tin Tin about to take a shit. And guess what he never disappoints. Another steaming NDP coiler on the sidewalk to avoid. Priceless.

  22. When I went to University, I took a class in Communism. I had to drop it though, I was getting lousy Marx!
    (sorry)

  23. Heard Mulcair interviewed by Bill Good. He stated that he would ban the export of raw logs to encourage the growth of secondary production here in BC. Asked for an example of where this works he said “Quebec where they have a thriving furniture manufacturing industry” Good let him get away with this zinger by not pointing out that Quebec is heavily subsidised by the West. He did not ask who would finance the manufacturing, who would buy the products, what the wages would be, since we would be competing with a subsidized Quebec would their product have preference on the market, would this be stackable furniture? Has Mulcair ever heard of market forces?
No he let that Tommie the Commie get away with ridiculous statements that show how dangerous he is.

  24. @Norman: Mulcair is your arch-typical politician – doesn’t know the difference between a blunt meat axe and a scalpel.

  25. @MGK: Two philosophers on vacation, lounging on deck chairs – One asks the other – “Have you read Marx?” The other replies “Yes, it must be these wicker chairs.”
    [Sorry]

  26. First time I’ve heard of it, thanks Peter.
Mulcair is a lucite with lard between the ears. Scary that an extremist like him can be in opposition.
Really need a leader who directs policy to create a strong economy that competes and buys goods on  the international market to maximize wealth not one that maximizes poverty
