  1. Is this true in Canada also?
Every few weeks some family asks for donations to the humane society as a memorial for a beloved lost family member (and I don’t mean the family pet).

Pretty much….a decade or so back the SPCA lost it’s “animal control” contract to a private contractor…..a whole bunch of folk with Brit accents did a protest march….
The local SPCA shelter here (now closed) dealt only with cats…private contractors (another bunch pirates) do the canine control…

  3. gellen – do what I do, if you live in Ont. donate to the Ont. Vet College, Guelph, Pet Trust Fund. Its a fund that goes to cutting edge research on treatments and medications to keep our companion animals healthy, advancing the knowledge of Veterinary Medicine. I don’t know if Saskatoon has a similar trust. Look it up at http://www.pettrust.ca

  4. I could give to the local pet shelter as it is costing the volunteers nearly $200,000. to operate this home for unwanted cats.
That is what the families should be advised to do by the funeral director: give to your local shelter.
