Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA
"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
Presenty 43% to 13%
These needs the attention of all SDA-ers.
now at 14%. going in right direction.
This poll uses cookies. Now if I thought like an eco-cultisit/leftard/facist people hater,I would have it set-up so that as soon as you voted for “turn off lights” or “ignore both”,I would have your IP goodies. Then next “Earth Hour”,all who voted to turn them off or other, would find themselves in either the Antarctic,North Korea, or sub-Africa(their choice),with no power for a week.Ummmmmm. Seems like a plan.Oh,Btw,up to 15% for the right direction.
Here’s Ross McKitrik’s “Earth Hour: A Dissent” once more. An alternative title would be “Human Achievement Hour”:
http://www.rossmckitrick.com/uploads/4/8/0/8/4808045/earthhour.pdf
We’re going to turn on lots of lights tonight in our NDP neighbourhood. I’ve thought of putting up an annoying sign, “We’re pro-choice: ‘cheap electricity has been the greatest source of human liberation.’” (h/t: Ross Mckitrik). But I think we’d end up with a brick through our window. Isn’t that just the response too many progressives have to any deviation from their orthodoxy?
Anyway, we’ll have lots of lights on and do some laundry and run the dishwasher. Yeah, Human Achievement Hour!
Earth Hour, the annual celebration of greenwashed hypocrisy.
It’s that 1/8760th of the year when a few people assuage their eco-guilt for an hour before going back to their wasteful lifestyles.
Could use a little divine intervention…
Genesis 1:3
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Looks like God had the inside straight and sent us in 1854 – Henricg Globel, a German watchmaker, invented the first true lightbulb. He used a carbonized bamboo filament placed inside a glass bulb.
In 1879, Thomas Alva Edison too used bamboo splits as filaments, working with bamboo obtained from Japan. The bamboo filament tended to last about forty hours before burning out.
Edison was working on constant betterment of light bulb and came up with a bamboo derived filament in 1880 which lasted for an incredible 1200 hours!!
In 1921 the first frosted light bulbs were introduced. In 1991 Philips invented light bulb lasting more than 60,000 hours!!
There how is that for human achievement?
Turn your lights on for an hour today…and of course for many hours on Christmas!!
Cheers

@justthinkin: I was thinkin along similar lines today – like an “Earth Winter” for the greenies.
This year, Earth Hour cultists will be sitting in the dark while Sun Network viewers are watching Justin Trudeau gets pounded. It doesn’t get much sweeter than that!
If only there were a bar that would show the fight here in Winnipeg!
Kudos to North Korea for celebrating Earth Hour 365 days a year.
Cuba gets 2nd place and most of the hellhole called tropical Africa ties for 3rd.
If a job’s worth doing, its worth doing properly.
Having a party with the lights out sure can be fun, but it lacks seriousness.
Far better to turn the electric off at hospitals- that’d show business is meant!
And why only an hour- surely a week would make the point better.
Or is a party with the lights out the sole purpose of the exercise?
Well don’t forget the telly either…
Brazeau v. Trudeau today Thrilla on the Hilla
We’ll see if Trudeau takes one on the beak for the cancer team…
Cheers

“Human Achievement Hour”?
Why does everyone else get whole calendar periods like “Black History Month” or “Muslim Day” what have you?
Currently the poll standings are: Lights out: 42%
Power up:16%
Neither of the above: 42%
It’s a relief to see 42% won’t be manipulated by either side, though the “Lights Out” side is the clear loser.
In an attempt to catch some classical music today I tuned in to CBC 2. The hostess was purring on about turning off the lights and lighting candles. It got me to thinking has anyone done the math on which generates more CO2, an electric light bulb or all the candles burning in place of said light bulb.
Ill be at work tonight to make sure these earth hour idiots don’t trip the grid. I hope all you people out there in SDA land can do your bit to help me.
Here’s your answer about CO2 and candles:
http://www.stubbornmule.net/2009/03/burning-candles/
I’ll be celebrating human achievement hour hoping to push my current consumption to over 150 amps this evening.
The eco-morons who seem to have infiltrate Interior Health have put a piece of the interior health website asking people to partake in “earth hour”. With too much of the hospital budget already going to administrators and BC’s carbon taxes, this has really gotten me pissed off. Right now I’m trying to decide if my email to them is going to be under my real name or come from Loki. Going to suggest that if they really wanted to make a difference, they could turn off electricity in the hospital for an hour. All those patients on ventilators would no longer receive visitors from 100 miles away driving to town in their F350’s or similar vehicles. The reduction in carbon footprint would be significant as well as freeing up beds. One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that the fewer patients that are in hospital, the happier administrators are and their idea is a hospital with no patients and just administrators.
I’ve got some welding to do tonight… and if that isn’t enough, I can dig out the plasma cutter and go to town… anyone need 1/2″ steel cut tonight?
Jaedo Drax-
Yeah there’s a wind turbine at the CAW compound in Port Elgin that you could have some fun with.
I voted to ‘power up’ , and see that the real majority is for all of us to power up and the rest are ignoring, which is just as good, as far as I am concerned.
Only 40% want to ‘do their thing’ by glowing in the dark! That leaves 58% either ignoring or powering up. ( All middle fingers on alert!)
Assuming the other 2% are just not into polls.
I’m in, 18% @ 4:09 PST to power up.
hmm I have 3000 Watts of electrical back up heat behind my 66 000 BTU carbon taxed furnace.
Crap where did I leave my 500 Watt Halogen work lights (you can spotlight the nighttime BC overcast skies with those !@#$.)
Right Dad still has them. (He tends to borrow my tools…) ((one of these days I’m going to “liberate” his 200 Amp arc welder:))
Call it a trade for my 30 cc chainsaw, Dad.
Could be fun to turn my suite into a sauna and invite my neighbors…
dwright
Doesn’t anyone remember what happened the last time the lights went out in Georgia?
That’s the night they hung an innocent greenie… naaa, just funnin’ with y’all.
This is just another exercise in leftoids doing something totally useless to make themselves feel good. Logic is not required.
I am delaying cooking dinner until 8:30. 1.5kW of POWER baby, plus everything else I can do. I will patrol the neighborhood and see who has lights out; they will be reported to Greenpeace so they can get lots of stupid junk mail.
Well, that was fun. The electric torch has been passed.
I think this cult is dying out.
All my NDP voting neighbours have their lights on.
(West Toronto)
This needs to be required reading for everyone – It’ll give you a pretty good idea as to what direction these cultists are attempting to herd us towards.

Have turned on every light in every room in the house. TV & computer are on too.
The (very liberal) church up the street is celebrating “Earth Day” right now with a candlelit service including “prayers and songs for the planet”. I have 4 words for those pathetic hippie wannabes: “Let. There. Be. Light.”
now at 21%
turning off the lights 39%
To Hell with earth hour. After being without electricity for nearly a week after last October’s snow storm, I say we’ve earned exemptions from guilt for the next 100 of these foolish earth hours.
There will be enough sheeple following the lead of the alarmists, though, which will make for some seriously robust AC mains tonight. I think I’ll turn on ALL of my lights and appliances in celebration of the life and contributions of Thomas Edison, and in defiance of that snake oil salesman Al Gore.
I prefer to call it self clean oven hour!
I’m just enjoying the Menzoid covering this idiocy in Calgary, where they are hoping to break last yrs record enery-usage! GO Alberta!

Getting ready for the power up in an hour and thinking of elder abuse. It has occured to me that QE the II is getting long in the tooth but still cann’t retire because of chuckels.
Pitty
I just voted to power up but see that the majority vote was to ignore the whole thing. No problem with that either. Clearly the the enviro fanatics continue to lose.
Well thank God I got lazy and didn’t take the Christmas lights down. Everything will be on commencing at minute zero of Earth Hour.
And Gerald, thanks for the tip, I had forgotten about the oven-cleaning opportunity.
Adding to the lunacy is the fact that here in BC, where we get our power from hyro dams, the greenies are going to shut down that source and revert to candles made from carbon-based fuel. Do these idiots actually have enough brain cells left to appreciate the irony??
Presumably they are going to rub sticks together to light up their spliffs…
Looks like it’s not unanimous. 22% powering up right now, 40% ignoring the whole thing. I’m watching the hockey game. Liz is baking. The people living on Lasqueti Island are burning gasoline to generate their power. Electricity isn’t so bad, unless you got a smart meter and your BC Hydro bill went up by 2000%
Every light on in the place, oven on, all the computers happily crunching seti@home data, 40 amp shop heater blasting away and enjoying the fruits of modern technology. Raining outside so I don’t really feel like idling my jeep.
Well I did my usual and had visitors….fans not critics…..including a coupla diesel pickups manned by young guys…..the second drove in and shut down…..to the dirision of the early arrivals….it was grand….
I lit up my old tractor which put up a spectacular cloud of white smoke as it warmed up.
I noticed more lights on in the distance…not less….seemed every flood-light was lit.
“Ah’m givin’er all she’s got Scotty, but she’s goina blow”!
Cripes, turnin’ on every light, appliance and convenience is a drag! …Maybe a nice hot-tub soak….
But I won’t be flying a thousand miles to do it, unlike most of the hypocritical pontificating environuts.
I just love these people who seem to enjoy giving their money to the oil and power companies. And thanks to them my investments in these companies keeps climbing. The old saying is true; “a fool and his money are soon parted”. Think I’ll go for a spin now in my Prius.

My neighbor drives a Pious … sorry, that’s Prius. She had most of her lights on during the weebitching hour…Earth Hour. ☺
Is there an echo in here Richard and Bill? Or is that a bot I see? ☺
A Prius idiot citing “A fool and his money”! Man, this stuff writes itself!
My place was lit up like a 747. Felt good. If only shiny pony had been pounded into the canvas it would have been the best day of the year. Can’t have everything I guess.

My Journeyman Alberta Power Lineman Dad told BC Hydro to “shove your remote controlled Smart Meter where the sun doesn’t shine.
I just told them to get bent, and said that I already am taught to hack/bypass your pathetic attempt at introducing “rolling blackouts”
I hate them.

bill I hope your comment was meant as an April Fools joke because if you really wanted to keep large corporations from getting your money you would walk…..
Keep spending your money lighting up your trailers and feuling up your pick-ups, rednecks, my investments in power corporations and oil companies keeps getting better every day!
@ Bill at April 1, 2012 10:48 PM
All you are doing is stating you are a city boy without a family to transport and a proud granola crunching, foam at the mouth tree hugger. Try living in northern BC where your little wannabe car would get buried in the first snow drift. You would find a whole new meaning for “redneck”. Up here a redneck drives the vehicle that suits the need. Tell the truth, you have no investments in oil companies. You hate oil companies. You would buy a Volt but are too cheap and afraid of fire.
Interesting numbers behind some of the salaries behind “earth hour”.
