  11. Davenport, consider the attacks the Palin children endured and then consider that the White House can eliminate evidence of the First Daughter’s trip to Mexico (and during a recession, too!) by pulling some strings.
    Partisan or not, you should be able to see how wrong this is.

    Seriously though – any reasons for preventing these stories (danger to his daughter, possible kidnappings, etc) are reasons not to let her go in the first place.
    In any other way this is a valid story. Considering the track record of the Obamas, people should be interested in how much this is costing taxpayers – because they have certainly been generous to themselves with the vacations.

    White house trying to erase all signs of the aforementioned happenings… conspiracy???
    Really, this Whitehouse has a way of conducting business that should have dead journalists sitting up and asking questions. These days it seems that most journalists got their degrees at the Entertainment Tonight School of Fluff and Journalism.
    As an aside, why is the Sun News Network pimping this so called fight between a couple of lightweight Canadian politicians? It’s been an item on most newscasts for at least a week now and the “event” isn’t until the end of the month.

  14. Although the private lives of the President’s family should be kept private by the media the spending of large sums of tax payer dollars on a vacation in the middle of a recession is a story.
    The real story however is that when the majority see for themselves that stories are being spiked for political reasons they don’t wake up to the fact that they are being manipulated by the government and the press.

  15. Davenport doesn’t think sending a kid on Spring Break to Mexico with a whole platoon of Secret Service is any big dead. Even at a time when Americans are being told by their government NOT to go to Mexico for spring break in case they might end up dead from “local unrest”.
    Ok fine, its not a big deal. Newsies didn’t treat it as a big deal either, just mentioned it. Got scrubbed. Now people are reporting on the scrubbing and -they- are being scrubbed.
    Running around scrubbing websites? Come on Davenport. Stretch that big brain of yours outside your comfort bubble for a second. Try to imagine the -firestorm- of outrage if the Bush White House Started telling reporters to scrub the Bush twins ski trip. Try to imagine the reporters voluntarily doing the scrubbing.
    I’m laughing out loud here myself.

    I suspect there’d be no outrage, since everyone agrees — even journalists — that the private lives of the US president’s family is off-limits to news reporting.     Oh and by the way, not that age makes a huge difference here, but it’s worth noting that Malia is 13 years old, whereas Jenna and Barbara were each 19 when Bush took office.

    “NOT to go”? Um, not exactly. Read it for yourself: travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_5665.html. Malia’s school trip — that’s right, school trip, not — is in Oaxaca.

  18. Davenport – I don’t follow. At the link you provide they are advising people to be very careful travelling in Mexico. Probably worried some more innocents will get taken out by Holder’s guns. Oaxaca is in Mexico. School trip or not, little miss Obama has a Secret Service security detail; actually, the fact that it’s a school trip makes it much worse, ’cause all the little friends will need protecting too. And google “bush twins holidays” or “bush twins vacations”; certainly they were reported on. There seems to have been a minor scandal in 2006, for example. Finally, I don’t recall Bush lecturing everyone on how frugal they needed to become while Laura jetted around the world like Imelda Marcos conquering her bucket list.
    Besides, it’s not really about that, is it? It’s about the media’s fawning obedience to their boyfriend the President. Gah.

    Lets be a little more specific now. You’re saying that if the Bush White House had called up media outlets demanding that the story about the twins getting busted for ordering margaritas be scrubbed of details such as when, where, who etc for “security” purposes, the New York Times would have fallen right in line. You’re saying that an independent Lefty reporter would have helpfully scrubbed her blog of who-what-where after a phone call from the Bushies regarding her coverage of the previous scrubbing. You’re saying nobody in the mainstream media would have made a squeak about any of it.
    The same media that went after a baby with Down’s Syndrome named Trig Palin like a pack of rabid weasels.

    Tell you what, if either of the Obama kids are ever charged with a misdemeanor or worse, AND the White House tries to scrub details of the story in the press, AND the MSM complies, THEN you’d have a case. Until then, you’re just grasping at straws.

As I keep saying, and Kate keeps censoring: In SDA world, it’s alright to criticize Obama’s 13-year-old daughter for going on a school trip to Mexico, not alright to breathe a word about the family values politician who’s in charge of the police, CSIS and Internet snoops ditching his wife and kids for the babysitter he impregnated.
