  7. Many conservatives have a decided libertarian or classic-liberal bent. And classic liberals tend to believe devoutly in freedom of speech and conscience.
    Such people, it seems to me, are more likely to tolerate opposing views.

  8. As others have noted, BiBs jumps right in to prove the hypothesis – that liberals/the left are intolerant.
    Just recall all the insults he’s leveled at us on various threads, an act of astonishing hypocrisy as he claims he’s ‘anti-insult’. Recall how he’s demanded that we ‘Do as He says’ – an attribute common to many on the Left. Or else we are bad people.
    Note how he refuses to discuss issues, refuses to answer questions and critique of his assertive comments, and instead, tells us how superior he is. Heh.

  9. Banned in Boston, I never visit this site looking for kindness. I have family and friends for that. I do look for intelligent (and witty) discussion and wisdom. I’ve gotten a bloody nose here occasionally and may have punched a few others myself.
    Debate here isn’t perfect, but if you can identify a left-wing blog that is as intelligent and civil, let us know and we’ll check it out. So far I haven’t come across any.
    If you are indeed looking for kindness, find a conservative. Research shows they are much more likely to be charitable with their resources than left-wingers.

  11. Progressives just accuse. Never reason or explain what they don’t like or any logical reasons. Only put downs with no rational. Its all emotion no sense, if you don’t agree with their delusions.
    Frankly because they can’t even pretend to defend the inanity of the left today. Things like After Abortion boggle the mind. PETA slaughtering animals in the name of animals. Supporting Muslims who are killing everyone, disrupting societies by colonizing the,. There silence over Women being brutalized by Islam , if not the political infiltration.

    If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
    If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
    If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
    If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for
    everyone.
    If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
    A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
    If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels.
    Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.
    If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church.
    A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and Jesus silenced.
    If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
    A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
    Nothing new here. Just more people telling us that conversation means listening only, supressing rational or creative thought, speaking only the mantra that has been taught (in unison chorus) and doing only as you are told.

  18. The big unanswered question is whether this intolerance is neurologically based or not? Another alternative is that leftists give undue importance to their idealistic views of how things should be rather than dealing with reality. In this latter scenario, contrary opinions are the unwelcome intrusion of reality.
    Another possibility is that leftism is a developmental disorder as people seem to be able to grow out of this phase. Universities, in particular, appear to offer an environment that can indefinitely prolong this primitive dysfunctional state of personality and actively discourage development of a more mature personality.

  20. “Liberals” are not really liberal, they are totalitarian nut-jobs who have hijacked the word and have forever changed its definition to mean something completely nasty.
    They also tend to hide in real life when away from the keyboard and not in organized numbers. The best indicators I have found to suss them out is watching their faces turn shades of pink or red when you mention firearms.
    They also like to smugly use the phrase “Well, to play devil’s advocate……..”, allot.

    And isn’t it amazing how few of them have the guts to pull this kind of crap in person? Farthest they ever go is a bumper sticker, and if you get up in their face about it they slip-slide away like little greased snakes.
    The only time you ever see courage in a Leftist is when he has lots of friends with him. Kind of like rats, they get brave in numbers.

    For what it’s worth, David Horowitz describes himself as a liberal mugged by reality. The ” mugging ” by which he was awakened was the murder of the Black Panthers’ bookkeeper by the Black Panthers themselves, who Horowitz was working with/advising at the time of the murder.
    After the woman’s death, Horowitz realized the Panthers were simply a criminal gang.

  28. small c Conservative, you’re right that people can change their views and this would support the idea that leftists are functioning at a lower level of cognitive development. Reality has quite devastating consequences when it comes in contact with idealism. Considering that kids are shielded from reality as much as possible nowadays, it’s no wonder than many of them turn out to be intolerant idealists.
    Robert W., hard to believe that university has devolved to this degree. After listening to the Sun video, what occurred to me was that when I was in university, people would take care of threats on their own. My university days were also my kickboxing days and anyone who threatened me physically would very much regret doing so. What the university Conservatives need to do is stop complaining, take some self-defense courses and beat the crap out of the intolerant islamofascists. Wasn’t the JDF supposed to take care of these idiots?
