The Green Party of BC will not be running candidates in the by-elections to be called in 2012. Because this decision seems to be of interest to some in the media, I thought an explanation might be in order.
There are all kinds of reasons we might not want to participate in by-elections. As a party that believes in evidence based decision-making, we now have data based on the four by-elections in which we have participated: the 2011 by-election in Vancouver Point Grey (3.42%); the 2008 by-elections in Vancouver Burrard (5.37%) and Vancouver Fairview (7.35%); and the 2004 by-election in Surrey Panorama (8.37%). With the exception of Surrey Panorama, the percentage of support for Green Party candidates in the by-elections is substantially lower than we receive in those same ridings in provincial elections. On evidence, therefore, that might be reason enough to take a pass on future by-elections unless there is compelling counter evidence that the outcome could be different.

Basically the Greens concede the obvious…that they have indeed slipped off the electoral map.
And this in the most green party friendly region of the country. The future has just looked that much brighter.
A little gerrymandering and Lizzie May is history. Watch the screendoor.
And when per-vote subsidies are killed the Greens will slide even more quickly into oblivion.
Will Liz May retire to Tuvalu a tiny island in the Pacific after she made claim that she would rather have her children and grandchildren be governed/looked after by the Tuvaluan government than having them be looked after by this government.
Take a hard look at the list of items the things the so call enviro and greenpeacers and liz may and megan leslie use everyday in their lives and yet they want to stop the oilsands, jobs etc.

Dwight, I had the same thought when I first read the announcement. When the Greens start becoming evidence-based, they’ll need to abandon the precautionary principle and thus their entire platform.
Not running candidates in by-elections is the end of the Green Party, but not the Greens – they’ll just go back to the rainbow coalition of the NDP – we’re not quit of them yet.
Wait a minute, Lizzie May has children? How could that happen?
