Ethical Oil

EthicalOil.org;

“The federal government’s hearings into the Northern Gateway Pipeline begin next week,” says Kathryn Marshall, spokesman for EthicalOil.org. “Canadians will be shocked to learn that anti-oilsands lobby groups opposing the project have taken millions of dollars from foreign special interests.”
The ad campaign started this morning on more than a dozen radio stations across northern B.C., and will also appear in ten weekly newspapers over the month of January. Each ad in the series highlights a different Canadian front group being paid by a foreign special interest. Factual documentation for the ads, as well as an audio clip of the first of five radio ads, can be heard at the website www.OurDecision.ca.

  1. Not sure how it could be done but I would love to see the federal government confiscate any foreign money coming into lobby groups. Should go quite a way to reducing our national debt by the time it was all accumulated. I suppose if they taxed every foreign cent out of said lobby groups…..

  2. Oh, look, it’s the boogeyman!
From a conservative point of view… should not every corporation have the right to spend money on whatever advertising it wants?

  3. “should not every corporation have the right to spend money on whatever advertising it wants?”
Which is precisely why we’re in favour of this public awareness campaign. Glad you’re on side.

  4. The Screaming Hysteric Eco-Nutters & Loonies are lined up and will go ballistic on the pipeline.
They will lie and invent scary stories, they will do anything to stop this.
Get prepared with some facts. . .

Pipelines have been running across the BC mountains for decades. No problems.
Tankers have been plying confined waters using the protocol being proposed for Enbridge for decades in Scotland and Scandinavia. No problems.
Nothing new here. Just manage the risks.

  5. I agree chutzpahticular @ 2:53 – we can thank Ezra and Sun News for this new Freedom – won’t find this information on the News Corpse we are forced to fund. You will, however, find support for the Soreass crowd at the corpses. Sad.

  6. Follow the money. Who benefits most by hindering the further development and distribution of oilsands output? OPEC and their Muslim masters. These green-leftards and the Islam-fascists have a lot in common, they both want to destroy our economy. It wouldn’t surprise me if OPEC money was behind these protests and ‘public service announcements’.

  7. Would it be out of line to suggest that perhaps some of this foreign cash was used during the last federal election?

  8. The Sleeping Beaver has been awakened. Beware all who have disturbed it’s sleep.
Great news and many, many thanks to Sun News and it’s spin-offs for getting this information out to us.
I notice and used the Donate box on the site. A good one to support…and yes, I AM CANADIAN!!

  9. Wow, a public awareness campaign that identifies who is paying for what propaganda! That is AWESOME!!!
Everybody pay attention to where the money comes from, that’s where your pressure points are. Kung fu ain’t just for hitting drunks.

  10. “Would it be out of line to suggest that perhaps some of this foreign cash was used during the last federal election?

Not one little bit. You can bet your a** it was used.
Joe…..EVERY group, these are not corporations as troll C2 implies, should immediately have their tax-free status revoked and all foreign monies taxed at 99%. Would go a long way to reducing our deficit.

  11. Ok, naming some names now, the Hewlett Foundation (one of the founders of Hewlett Packard), the Tides foundation and the Rockefeller foundation are all names which show up quite often in relationship with anti-gun activism and propaganda as well as this econazi stuff.

  12. This made my day. Canadians standing up for whats right instead of relying on Government.
This should be habit forming. Its the only true way to get back our Democracy from special interest groups.
Lets trust out neighbors with ourselves prompting change. , together we can get our individual rights back while strengthening this Dominion.

  13. “… From a conservative point of view… should not every corporation have the right to spend money on whatever advertising it wants?”
Why yes, of course. With one caveat – full declaration of funding sources. No disclosure, no access to Canadian Free Speech. As Foreign entities, these Trusts don’t enjoy the protection of the Charter …. and you simply can’r ship undisclosed “cash” into Canada …

  14. Well, Chiquita got whacked north of 49 for shooting their mouth off on “tar sands” fuels, let’s do the same to Hewlett Packard et al. Computer, printer etc sales; I’ve got a couple of HP printers sitting on my company’s desks and they are getting long in the tooth. They don’t work on Win 7, only XP computers that are also getting old. Could select some other brand for their replacement, soon like before my year end. Cost a few bucks to do so.
See ya, HP. Just doin’ my bit for the cause.

  15. And still Canadian taxpayers are forced to support an organization that backs the Soros cabal….
It will be very good when we defund the CBC.

  16. Why do we need to pay any attention to those billionaire funded ‘hippie’ organizations that work to retard Canada’s prosperity?
Mr, Harper has the power, so he should simply run roughshod over these twits and order up the pipeline. We need it like we need food. We don’t need hippie values determining our future.
And while we are at it … screw the Indians who pretend to care about pollution as well I have seen their reserves. They have nothing to say. They are mindless twits who behave more like government house pets than a proud race of people.
Regarding the hippie protest types … cut them all off welfare and any other government funding that they get, If you have the wherewithal, maybe lay a beating on the next one who tries to hand you a pamphlet.

  17. Like I stated before Jema, CBC has only 1 agenda, that is to champion a parasite like Suzuki and spend thousands hyping his “Force of Nature” farce. I would like to see the little creeep get out of the tree houses and stop the wind, or turn back a snowstorm, instead we have a state broadcaster funded by you and I shoving every leftwing PC sh..show down the throats of anyone stupid or not lucky enough to avoid this sad station, instead of doing real research and exposing money SCAMs like Suzukis “glow ball warming”. Years ago I was told by an oilman who had worked all over the world, when the Saudis find out how big our oilsands are, you will see terrorism you can’t believe” well monetary terrorism is just as destructive monetarily, and can eventually break economies, this was their intention from the start, right Maurice of Beghing!

  18. I see Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development gave the Pembina Institute over $100,000 in 2009.
Why is my tax money being used to destroy Alberta?
Can the Minister of Agriculture please ensure this stops now?

  19. The Pembina Institute is stuck so far up the Greenie patoot they are actually stupid enough to brag on the Home page they made the Tides Canada “Top 10”.
Pembina Institute = Mouthpiece for Eco-Nutters, Loonies, Flakes, Grifters, Con Artists and anti progress.
I am sure they use fairy phart powered wind turbines to generate the electricity they need to run their Gaia Propaganda Campaign.
The first thing Harper should do is launch an investigation into Tides Canada for green money laundering. Make the investigation cover all the Hollyhock, Endswell Foundation and especially Renewal Partners links, overlaps and staff interrelationships.
The epicenter of American money funding the greenie anti pipeline propaganda is right there.

  20. In 2010, Alberta Culture and Community Spirit donated between $20,000 and $50,000 to The Pembina Foundation.
Why are my tax dollars being used to fund those who would destroy my livlihood?

  21. Just curious if any activist charitys who can hand out tax deductions/reciepts are on the payroll ?

  22. There is an associated group, Pembina Consulting. Hire them and I bet you won’t be hearing your company’s name on TV as a polluter. Perhaps they need to make up their mind whether they are a business or lobby group.
It would be like Suzuki doing a CBC hatchet job on a company requesting a $50,000 donation to his organization but we know he would never do anything like that. Suzuki certainly wouldn’t let money in his pocket affect the tone of his program. That would be unethical and probably illegal.

  23. Hollyhock is ground zero for Endswell/Renewal Partners. Everything revolves around the central people of Endswell/Renewal and Hollyhock is where they plot.

  24. The Pembina Institute does “consulting” and “advocacy” and as such cannot give tax receipts. However they refer donees via a link on their donor page directly to the “Pembina Foundation” which does give tax receipts.
Of course, greenies, the misled and the stupid will conflate “The Pembina Institute” with the “Pembina Foundation” and respond to the political invective from the “Institute” with a donation to the “Foundation”.
Now, I wonder if any money from the charitable Foundation returns to the Institute in the form of payments disguised as consulting fees?
    Let us check and see….

  25. Heh, well that did not take very long…
From Page 1 of the 2010 Annual report of the Pembina Foundation:
“Pembina at Work: Building a Sustainable Future
The Pembina Foundation for Environmental Research and Education supported a variety of innovative environmental research and education
initiatives in 2010. These initiatives, carried out through agreements with the Pembina Institute…”
So there you have it. Domations received from the tax receipting Pembina Foundation Charity funnel right back to the Pembina Institute which cannot issue tax receipts.
Unethical at worst or a pretty slimy legal loophole at best.

  26. I was going to put my 2 bits worth in but I would just be repeating what Abe Froman said. No more hearings, it’s all been done. Build the damn thing and if they protest physically, fire their sorry as*es into jail. Enough already.

  27. “Canadians will be shocked to learn that anti-oilsands lobby groups opposing the project have taken millions of dollars from foreign special interests.”
But not shocked to learn that they have taken millions from the Canadian Taxpayer?

  28. “The Pembina Foundation for Environmental Research and Education supported a variety of innovative environmental research and education
initiatives in 2010. These initiatives, carried out through agreements with the Pembina Institute…”
The Pembina Group is a Canadian disgrace… dumb & dumber you twits… They are the green gangsters that create the Fuzz & then commit to fix thier Fuzz. A fraud from the get go!
They have to exist North of the 49th because stupid get a free pass, Shame on Canadians

  29. “Ok, naming some names now, the Hewlett Foundation (one of the founders of Hewlett Packard), the Tides foundation and the Rockefeller foundation are all names which show up quite often in relationship with anti-gun activism and propaganda as well as this econazi stuff.”
With the possible exception of the Wilburforce group and the Rockefeller Bros., The Hewlett and Tides foundations are incestuous – they share directors and principals. All of them are money-washing operations taking advantage of US tax laws for non-profits, and especially egregious Democratic refuges for capital. Multi-billion dollar corporations that pay no corporate income tax, amongst other things. The list of Canadian NGOs are all funded by the same group of US “non-profits”. These are “on-shore” tax havens.

  30. This article has a different take on who is behind protests, and says east coast oil companies Irving Oil and Sunoco (Pews) are involved.
“Neither Levant nor Sweeny actually link Arab oil monarchs to the anti-oil sands campaign or even to environmentalism. Their evidence is circumstantial: The oil sands are a major competitor to Arab oil. The oil monarchs are an influential lobby. Al Gore and George Soros have Saudi links…
Another facet of the oil importing system is neglected. East coast refineries import petroleum, turn it into fuel and other commodities, then sell them through vertically integrated business enterprises. These conglomerates seldom produce oil. They have no stake in North American oil production. Domestic oil producers are their competitors. With their capital sunk on the East coast, they have no interest in a booming North or West. These conglomerates support environmentalism.
The Canadian Boreal Initiative is the “national convener” of Canadian boreal forest activism and the secretariat of the Boreal Leadership Council – a coalition including: Ducks Unlimited, WWF-Canada, ForestEthics, Pembina Institute, The Nature Conservancy, and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, three major timber companies, several ethical investment firms, four native groups, and Suncor.
This cluster of groups scored a major coup in May 2010 with the signing of the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement. This deal, brokered by Pew’s Steve Kallick, saw the Forest Products Association of Canada agree to suspend logging in 75 million acres of boreal forest in exchange for an end to the boycotts of Canadian forest products being organized by environmentalists.
In a letter dated October 5, 2010, Steve Kallick warned Canadian petroleum producers that if they did not follow the lead of the Canadian timber industry, “oil sands controversies can only grow.”

  31. I’ve got a couple of HP printers sitting on my company’s desks and they are getting long in the tooth. They don’t work on Win 7, only XP computers that are also getting old. Could select some other brand for their replacement
    That’s what I did.

  32. CBC has only 1 agenda, that is to champion a parasite like Suzuki and spend thousands hyping his “Force of Nature” farce.
That’s simply not true. A quick look at their program schedule completely disproves that.
That might be one of their agendas, but clearly a lot of their programming has nothing to do with AGW or the Suzuki/Gore/Cameron propaganda.

  33. Kind of ironic that ethical oil would be concerned about this considering that the oilsands are OWNED by a foreign special interest.
Long live hippies and the CBC!

  34. @North of 60: The CBC may also provide other programming than anti-development, pro-envirofascist religion, but neither does it promote dissenting views. When the subject comes up, and it does in nearly every newscast in the form of op-ed posing as news reportage, the official CBC position comes from the talking points of the NDP/Council of Canadians/Soros etc.
Find me an example of an AGW sceptic not framed as a crazed anti-science wingnut and I’ll eat my hat. Only Rex Murphy speaks to reason and he clearly states that he is not reporting news, but only his opinion.
