With a totalitarian party to vote for;
The former minister of state for antiquities affairs, Zahi Hawass, campaigned for the return of the country’s treasures. I vote against that. Better they be safe where they are than exposed to the fury of modern-day Egyptians, especially given that Egypt’s mufti recently ruled against the private display of statues, a possible first step toward a state-sanctioned destruction of Egyptian antiquities. In addition, observers rightly worry that the imcomparable Egyptian Museum may be targeted next.

I read something earlier to the effect that the Egyptian salafists are pushing for covering the pyramids with … WAX (presumably some new sun-resistant variety).
Back when the armies of the Caliphate had over-run Eygpt….the Arab General had a decision to make. The Great Library of Alexandria contained many precious and venerable documents and manuscripts.
The General wrote to the Caliph in Mecca for guidance.
The reply….These documents when read COULD dispute the truth of the Koran….and be blaspamy….or they could support the Koran…in which case they are superfluous…BURN THEM!
It is written.
then, once everything pre-muhammed in Egypt is levelled, they can start in on the real problems…and demand to have those ‘laws’ recognized here…
(Emirates 24/7) — When Saudi Arabia’s religious police arrested a man for dating a girl, the first thing he did was to pull a photograph out of his pocket and try to rip it.
The blood-stained picture was then determined to be a magic spell done by the man to push the girl to go out with him.
Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice were on a routine patrol in the capital Riyadh when they suspected the man walking with a girl in the town centre.
“When they caught him, he pulled out a photograph of him and the girl and tried to tear it. . . . but the Commission members managed to wrest it out of his hands and found that it was daubed with blood and the girl’s hair,” the Saudi Arabic language daily Sabq said.
“After questioning him, the man confessed that the photograph is a magic spell aimed at persuading the girl to go out with him . . . the girl said she had been dating him for nearly a month but did not know why.”
I’m afraid we could see the destruction of many of Egypt’s archaeological treasures in our lifetime. Some objects are just too big to move to a safe location.
Anyone who doubts this can happen, Google “cultural revolution China “. Many priceless Chinese antiquities only exist today because Westerners moved them out of the country before the Communist takeover.
in our lifetime ? try ‘before next Xmas’
