Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Best clip ever. Every one shoots their mouth off and I don’t hear anything.
Useful idiots of the left. One can almost sympathize with the Leninists for killing people like these individuals after using them for the cause.
The only thing missing was Wesley Mouch as their facilitator.
They are socialist elites.
They have enough mansions, yachts, cars, private jets at their disposal.
There comes a point in the wealth of these people, wealth shielded by trusts, that they cannot be relatively more elite in comparison to the rest of Americans except by making the rest of Americans poorer, and that is their goal.
They want to raise taxes massively on all Americans and are pretending to lead by example, but it won’t affect their livestyle one iota while putting the living standard of middle class Americans into a nose dive.
FLAT TAX! FLAT TAX! FLAT TAX! Nothing else is really fair. And yes, I would be willing to do away with ALL deductions and withholdings.
Those guys are all shills with government jobs…they have no money to donate….rich men are far too busy being productive to show up to an event like this…of course they couldn’t walk the walk…as per usual for the typical Loonie Left!
The first guys saying he is way above the 1% was lying through his teeth….completely full of shite!!!
Big freakin surprise….liberal rich people who aren’t willing to pay! I guess it is for us “little” people!
I could watch her ask those uncomfortable questions all day. … maybe she needs someone to give her a foot massage and make some hot chocolate at the end of the day as well?
*big sigh*
No wonder they can’t put their money where their mouths are, with both feet inserted, there’s no room. I love watching these guys flap their gobs. Tools.
Is it any surprise that they cannot conceive of individual action that has any meaning. Only collective, state compelled actions have any meaning to them.
Perhaps Oz has a point….these guys are safe behind a wall of tax shelters….

They aren’t part of the 1% at all…just political elites posturing…phonies…
All of the above, exactly.
Useful idiots.

Not exactly my point.
Their wealth isn’t income at all so there is no need for it to be sheltered.
All those mansions, yatch’s, private jets, etc. are owned by “the Trust” which is an ongoing entity and these people and their heirs have exclusive use of these items/assets as head/excutors/board members of the Trust.
That’s how they pass these things on to their children without having to pay the inheiritance tax that all middle America pays.
I do some of the same things with my limited private numbered company here in Alberta.
You won’t see them asking for their wealth and benefits from those Trusts to be taxed ever.
What these people want is a bump in, narrowly and specifically, income taxes for all Americans.
The guy at 2:16 in the video openly admits that his position is that the rich and middle class need to pay more taxes.
Of course because of how truly rich he is it won’t affect him they way it will affect middle class Americans.
Silly exercise.
I want to see the us spend more on defense. Is she suggesting I write a check to the pentagon? Imagine the defense policy that would evolve if soros and the Chinese did that.
They are doing what I would do – lobby fortune cause/policy they want to see. That they are ignorant of the economic consequences or are vested interests who actually benefit somehow is beside the point.
Engaging in such foolish exercises like the one above hurts the cause.

Depends on what her goal is, Gord.
I think her goal is to open up the motive and overall impact of their lobbying to discussion and not allow these people to define the dialogue.
One thing she could have done better was to ask the opposite question of why these people weren’t lobbying for spending cuts, because the real problem isn’t a deficit in revenue, it’s increasing government bloat/overspending.
Even if taxes were massively increased on all American classes(note the language of class conflict which goes unquestioned here) it still wouldn’t address the entrenched culture of “tax and spend” which requires tax these increases to begin with.
Flat tax + volunteer extra if you can afford it, very simple & very clean.
Of course they don’t like that system, as the one guy said, “…rich AND middle class….” It’s the middle class who are the real targets, the rich will never pay their share, they can afford not to.
Meanwhile Warren Buffets companies are and have been busy the last few years fighting the IRS on a billion plus taxation dispute he owes the feds while wailing in the media about paying more taxes like all these other useless idiots.
This video is perfect. If you want to pay higher taxes…pay them!
Liberals like Gord Turk don’t understand the concept of putting your money where your mouth is.
Jeff: obviously you are new to this site if you think I am a liberal. My point is that this is a misguided exercise – not that the motives behind it are disagreeable.
Jeff, Gord Tulk is not a liberal by any stretch.
I suppose they have a point, that their donations would be a drop in the bucket. They’re aiming at grabbing more taxes from millions of wealthy Americans. I’m always amazed how many rich people there are in the US. The problem is, no amount of taxing will balance the budget. Unless they slash spending, within a couple of years, they’ll never see the light of day again.
Oh, that is good. I love it. I want to send this video to other s but cannot dig the link.
Gord Tulk is no liberal; he’s a sensible chap with a reasonable argument here, tho perhaps a tad too earnest here.
I’ve got a good one.
Recently I put in a new fence on my property.
Hating committees of all kinds, I decided to incur the full cost of both sides.
The neighbour to my east, an uber liberal, NDP/vision supporter, pro-environmentalist said to my wife: “we feel really guilty about having a nice new fence to which we didn’t contribute”.
And she didn’t volunteer even a token amount. My wife and I found it amusingly predictable. Were I a betting man, I’d have bet my life savings on this outcome.
What’s the problem with doing both – voluntarily paying a greater share of taxes (putting one’s money where one’s mouth is/leading by example) and lobbying for higher taxes on the wealthy?
They’ll only jump off a bridge if everybody else jumps. Phonies, all of them.
Of course they don’t like that system, as the one guy said, “…rich AND middle class….” It’s the middle class who are the real targets, the rich will never pay their share, they can afford not to.

The top 1% pay 38% of all federal income taxes in the US. The top 10% pay 70%.
Seems to me they’re already paying more than their fair share. And each and every one of them who say the rich should pay more, yet don’t themselves voluntarily pay more than they’re required to are lying through their teeth. Empty words, political posturing is all it is.
Meanwhile the bottom 47% pay nothing, which is why they’ll always vote for more government spending – it costs them nothing.
It used to be the Rich would help paying for public projects for political power. These days its the people through payroll taxes that pay for art galleries. If not all public buildings while the welfare Corporate folks keep their money, plus power.
Since they are the only ones who can now afford to run for office. Nice con.
Still don’t see how anyone can view this video and not see obvious hypocrisy…..
From my cold, dead hands…
