Reader Tips 45 Comments

Anyone who loves time-lapse videos, as I do, will likely enjoy this. Closer to home, here’s one of my favourite videos of Vancouver, released just before the 2010 Olympics. In both cases, do watch full-screen!

  13. Nice time-lapse videos Robert. One thing that I did like about Vancouver was to do time-lapse photography of the view out my apartment window. Cloud and fog behavior is quite spectacular when speeded up and there’s just so much happening with traffic, building lights going on/off randomly during the night and the neat shadows one gets from tall buildings which are different every day of the year. Have hundreds of Gb of images from my apartment windowcam which looked over the West End and N. shore mountains. Your post reminded me about those files and have to look at them again. Time lapse photography I do now in the much less populated city where I live isn’t nearly as impressive as the Vancouver time lapse although it would be interesting to do a year’s worth of images in about 5 minutes (try to add this project to already overcrowded schedule).

But most readers, I imagine, will reevaluate their conception of the depths of human depravity when they read, in particular, about the widespread cannibalism that became rampant in what Robert Conquest has referred to as “one vast Belsen.” These are tales that one imagined lay only in the realm of zombie films: parents cooking and eating their own children, children in a nursery eating each other, a starving toddler literally eating himself.”

  21. Re Iran hijacks drone. This is both plausible and scary. I was talking about this at work the other day and we were questioning how they managed to recover an inherently unstable aircraft in such good condition. We figured if it failed in flight it would leave a hole in the ground and a pile of twisted wreckage. High jacking was not something that crossed our minds.

  29. CANADIAN PRESS FAKE QUOTE LIBEL RE DON CHERRY
    Canadian Press “reporter” Linda Shearman has filed a story on the most “infamous” Canadian quotes in 2011. #1 on the list is this:
    “This just proves what a nation of p*ssies we are.” — Don Cherry on news that Canada’s murder rate is at its lowest since the 1960s.
    PROBLEM: Cherry never said this.
    It appears on a blog post at http://www.andrewbradley.ca/?p=1819 and from the context, it is clear that it’s satire, i.e., a fictional, made-up quote, not something that Don Cherry ever said.
    This story has been picked up by Global and the Globe and Mail, among other sites online. But as yet, no one seems to have picked up on the fact their supposedly most infamous quote of 2011 is not something Don Cherry ever said.
    It reminds me of the quotes the left made up re Rush Limbaugh, supposedly happy about the MLK assassination. CNN, MSNBC, etc. happily reported all those quotes as fact, when of course some socialist had just made them up. They believe the worst about Rush the way our lefties believe the worst about Cherry.

  36. His and Dawson’s devotes can be some of the rudest most bigoted posters I have ever had the misfortune to read. The rational thinkers can be anything but, they use well intentioned, perhaps even extremely intelligent men’s thoughts to bolster their bigotry and self important malignant hate.
