Gun ownership by law abiding citizens has always reduced public violent crime in democratic nations.

An interesting fact on the whole gun control issue is that the state of Montana has the most open gun control of all the states. Law abiding citizens are allowed to carry handguns for example, Know which state has the LOWEST per capita rate of gun crime? what a surprise….Montana. Canada’s gun control laws are a Liberal government’s suck up to mainly eastern Canada special interest groups. Remember the Liberal crede..we don’t need the west, we can rule with the rest. Michigan has been keeping stats since they allowed CCW permits (aka Concealed Pistol License in MI)
MI also has Open Carry ability.

Thanks for the link Kyla. What we need to be working towards in Canada is not just abolishing the firearms registry but allowing concealed carry. I’d have no problems in requiring CCW applicants to pass the police pistol proficiency test as cops are terrible shots and their proficiency test is a joke.
Right now the idiotic Canadian firearms laws make owning firearms, if criminals find out that people have guns, more dangerous to their health entirely as a result of C68.
In a reasonable society I would be allowed to keep a loaded pistol under my pillow or carried on my person. C68 states that I’d be committing an offense if I were to do this as the only way firearms can be stored/transported is in an unloaded state with trigger locks attached. Security guards who transport money are armed and I’m just waiting for someone to take the @#$@! Canadian statist bastards to court by pointing out that their life is worth significantly more than the few thousand in cash that allows protection by armed security guards.
Lott has an interesting history in that he started out as someone who was in favor of restrictions on firearms until he started crunching US homicide/gun ownership data. One of the rare people who changed his opinions when the real world data showed his previous opinions were wrong. The one unfortunate effect of Washington DC’s drop in homicides would be that r^2 for the plot of homicide rates vs HIV rates would decrease significantly if Washington DC homicide rates are no longer such an outlier. (One gets similarly high r^2 values when one plots homicide rates vs percentage of population that is black in the US).

Having simple possession of a firearm still being a criminal offence, presumes ordinary citizens can’t be trusted with a firearm.
Confiscated or turned in firearms are,by gov’t. policy,destroyed rather than being offered for sale to Canadians who are Licenced, by that same gov’t., to purchase firearms. (That includes $16,000,000 worth of Browning pistols which are being replaced with a newer design 9mm.)
These are but two examples that indicate the Harper Conservative gov’t.’s long term policy is, like it’s predecessors, civilian disarmament.

The intentional burying of pro-gun news is a very well documented fact, almost as well documented as gun ownership reducing crime. Documented by John Lott in fact, among many others.
