Now Hiring

Speaking to an all black audience, Obama’s Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett explains the role of government:

“We have to give people a livelihood so they can provide for their families…we are working hard to lift people out of poverty and give them a better life, a footing, and that’s what government is supposed to do.”

  1. And where is government going to get the money to do all this? I want FEWER services, and LESS tax! Government bureaucrats in charge of EVERYTHING is a bad idea! I don’t want free this, free that.. I want people to have more PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY! Our culture and civilization is jumping the shark because fools are convinced that gov’t should take care of EVERYTHING. Health care? Government will TOTALLY control it. Your job? It should be a government job that is totally UNIONIZED. Get pregnant? That’s okay, government will give you MORE money. When does it stop?? I want government OUT of my life and OUT of my wallet! Just let me work and make my own decisions — stop taxing me and expanding the role of government, please!

  2. What is that old saying, a government that can give you everything, has the power to take it all away?
Obama’s America is living up to that old saying quite well.

  3. we are working hard to lift people out of poverty and give them a better life, a footing, and that that’s what government is supposed to do.
Not according to the U.S. Constitution.
All powers and responsibilities not specifically outlined in the Constitution as federal powers and responsibilities are deemed to be the jurisdiction of the individual States and the federal government has to stay out.
Protecting the borders of the U.S. is specifically outlined as a responsibility of the federal government and that is one of the things they are supposed to do but they aren’t doing it.

  5. What reasonably minded person thinks that anything the Obama Administration does is a Hand Up rather than a Hand Out? The problem with never-ending welfare is that it destroys a person’s initiative to work harder, work longer, work smarter. But “initiative” and “incentive” are two words that the Left seem incapable of understanding.

  6. Political correctness agenda item no. 9:
    – dependency on the state or state benefits
These people are not even being educated that they are responsible for their own well-being and their personal ambitions, that everything a person consumes must be produced first, and that voluntary trade in items of value for mutual benefit is the foundation of the economy. We can probably blame public education for failure in this area too.

  7. We should all be thanking Glenn Beck for exposing monsters like Frawnsis Pivin, Van Jones, Georgie Porgie SoreOs, …the entire 0’s Tzars of Shame. What a wonderful, courageous act; Glen will be forever thanked and re thanked if North America (specifically, USA) pulls itself out of the filthy Bolshevic swamp that has mired us down and emerges free and strong. I pray that people will wake up in time and I pray for brave patriots like Glen, Rush, Gov. Palin, Ron Paul….I also pray for all free people who are the light in the dark world. Thank-you for the post, Kate.

  8. It’s amazing. Blinded by the psychopathic want to be needed, the liberal elite cannot see the atrophy they inflict upon their own people. Empowerment and a sick sense of superiority drives them. The impoverishment of their own constituency fulfills their prophecy, fuels anger, and divides a nation.
Most sociology is written from a leftist perspective by the very same liberal elite. Fascinated by the pogrom, volumes are written with linguistic tact and complicated paradigms to define fascism. Endless lists of criteria, inclusive of the most common sorts of social and economic phenomena, are employed to theorize root cause. The truth is that the complexity of this task is manifested solely by the liberal elites’ desperate need to exclude themselves from responsibility.
Fascism is socialism from above, plain and simple.
From there, fascism is as fascism does I’m afraid.
The Obama administration is fascist; hell bent on destroying the greatest economy, nation, and people in the history of civilization, for their own glory.

  9. It’s simple, we need more engineering training.
Math is not hard if it is explained by an expert.
Remember: A people tend to hire other A people,
B people tend to hire C people for different reasons.

  10. The natural end result of Jarrett’s “role of government”, aka socialism.
How to? Easy. Harness the two sisters: Fear and Hope.
“through the combination of fear and propaganda,” = Hope = O.
    …-
    “Welcome to the Stalin Project!
From 1924-1953, Joseph Stalin ruled the largest country in the world with an iron fist. He attempted to twist and contort the USSR into a modern communist country using the most brutal methods. He was able to industrialize a rural country in a short amount of time and he held off the Nazi onslaught during World War II. However, the price for this “progress” was immense. He surrounded himself with amoral yes-men who created one of the most criminalized penal systems in history. Over ten million were killed and many more had their lives destroyed by the system. His brilliance was that through the combination of fear and propaganda, he was idolized by the majority of the people until his death.”

  11. Actually, no, that is definitely NOT the role of government. Government is a necessary evil but nobody’s friend. Government is enemy no. 1 of the people.

  12. The problem with the opinion that government should look after you, is that it is an economically ignorant argument. It is focused on only one phase of the economy: consumption…of goods and services. It ignores the other two phases.
    Investment and Production.
If the government takes all your surplus wealth, beyond your basic consumption needs, and distributes it to others with less wealth for their consumption needs, then..how do the other two economic processes survive?
An economy cannot just live, economically, NOW, in current time. It can’t just consume goods. It has to, economically, live in the future. It has to INVEST in structures to PRODUCE goods. And it has to market them to make a surplus wealth/profit.
This need for making More-Than-Is-Consumed is valid whether it’s saving seeds to plant next year’s crop, not killing all your turkeys for a thanksgiving meal, or putting money in the bank.
This surplus is not stored in old socks. It’s invested. Whether in a bank that makes loans to set up a small business to make socks, or in setting up your own factory to make shoes or..
This investment thus enables the second phase of an economy: production of goods and services, which are then, consumed.
The socialist mindset only focuses on the last phase of the economic triad: consumption. It totally ignores the need for investment in producing goods and services..and wealth. So, where does it think wealth comes from?
I’ve concluded that most socialists see wealth produced by some Magic Cauldron, where it endlessly bubbles up on its own. In the cellars of ‘the rich’, in the vaults of ‘Wall Street’.
Governments take wealth and distribute it for consumption. Govts don’t produce wealth, they don’t invest it for production purposes..and when they try to..they almost always fails (Solyndra).
Govts should get out of the economy, leave it to the private sector, insert as few regulations as possible, and allow the full triadic process to function.

  13. The government’s role is to give everyone a job (livelhood). Sounds a little like Communism, or am I just being too critical??

  14. Vision. I’m sick and tired of politicians who think they have a vision. Gary Mar thinks that Albertans are looking for a politician who has vision.
In Obama’s case what he wants to do isn’t a vision, it’s a prescription for misery.

  15. A classic:
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

  16. Mirror, mirror on the wall.
Who’s the fairest one of all?
Valerie Jarret and her ilk think of themselves as nice people seeking social justice (fairness) for all.
And to demonstrate how nice they are, they will spend your money for you.
Mirror, mirror confirms their sense of fairness.
    To be fair …

  17. What we have leaned, or should I say, what has been confirmed by the Obama administration is that Negroes are incapable of taking care of themselves and their families. Are incapable of finding and keeping a job. Incapable of living in a clean decent and safe neighborhood … Are unable to cope with the normal everyday stresses of life in a free capitalist society …
What low self-esteem these people must have. With such little education, (not a value among blacks) most of them have no idea what is going on around them, so they must also be frustrated and stressed right out with fear and loathing that they are sooooo UNLUCKY! and the WHITEY has robbed them … or something like that.
I am not surprised to see black America coming to this …. just look at all the black homelands and tell me if you see any examples of a better way of life among black people.
I know that there are many exceptions … Herman Cain, Thomas Sowell and Bill Cosby come to mind, but the general black population appear to be incapable of creating a decent society that anyone would want to live in. Would you move to Detroit .. or Haiti…. or any African country? Neither would I.
So my question is … What is wrong with these people?
Next question, why do people like Valery Jarrett and Barrack Obama work so hard to keep black people down by treating them like helpless retards.
Black people don’t need to be GIVEN jobs, they need to be given and education, however the educational industry is no longer capable to doing that either …. something to do with teacher’s unions.

  18. There’s nothing wrong with benevolence — it’s very much part of the Western Judeo-Christian ethic: traditional “Good Samaritanism”.
The problem is the Marxists hijacked the idea, and twisted into a thousand different knots for the cause of fascistic “socialism”. There was never a conflict between “capitalism” and traditional benevolence — I don’t think Adam Smith was an intrinsically greedy guy and he would probably turn over in his grave at the idea that the “Bernie Madoffs” of this world would represent what free market economics is supposed to be about.
Don’t cede the ideas of benevolence and good Samaritanism to the Left — they actually don’t give a dam about the poor. What they do care about is not only absolute government control of the economy and the destruction of the free market, but control over freedom to have other liberal Western laissez-faire values such as compassion.
Putting aside some tax bucks to help the less fortunate is not a threat to a free democracy; thinking that there is an absolute solution to poverty such as Socialists do is in fact a big threat to democracy — it requires absolute control and government to engineer everything and everyone, especially the poor. I’d rather be poor and free than a slave to Socialism which makes everyone equally poor.

  19. There’s nothing wrong with benevolence — it’s very much part of the Western Judeo-Christian ethic: traditional “Good Samaritanism”.
The Judeo-Christian version doesn’t include state coercion.
    Coercion isn’t benevolence, it’s malevolence.
There is no virtue in being forced to ‘share’ at gunpoint, particularly when the largess is politically/racially directed.

  20. The federal Government should be about defending the Country, standardized measurements & food standards. A postal service. Looking after the armed forces. Otherwise it shouldn’t leave the Provinces alone.
Instead they have over the years stolen our Provincial rights to create more power for themselves, with a Judiciary out of control.
It should be the Provinces that ask the federalists for helping time of crisis, not the feds controlling the Provinces including health.
The feds have taken control of even civilian initiatives. Like Church hospitals, education, the list is never ending. Its a cancer out of control.

  21. No, Valerie, I’m afraid you are not lifting the poor, you are getting the poor hooked on welfare.

  22. Lefties see “poverty” as causetive rather than symptomatic, thus they try to rectify the wrong problems
when “welfare” was administered by the community (mostly the church) rather than the government people felt obligated to make their “stay” as short as possible. Today, the left-lib beaurocrats create a environment were “welfare” flourishes, thusly they can feel good about helping the poor they created and do so with YOUR dime, and buy votes in the process

  23. A little publicised matter is Valerie Jarret’s participation in the Bin Laden interdiction.
Apparently she twice exceeded her authority as a mere White House advisor to order the operation stood down…only to have the adults in the room over-rule her and set things in motion again.
Apparently her counsel was contributory in OBOZO’s hesitation in authorizing the operation…indeed when the matter transpired it was underway without his knowledge (golfing) and when hastilly brought in from the links, he was merely an unhappy observer not an organizer/facilitator.
In short, the Bin Laden interdiction was done in spite of her best efforts to stop it.
