We need to move like the wind to save our great nation. Honestly, I believe the only candidate capable of legislating with the necessary speed and accuracy is Newt Gingrich. It may require some dispassion to elect him. Desperate times call for disparate measures. This (IMHO) is the framework of a very strong plan.

Rush tears apart the Solar industry as nothing but a slush fund. If his numbers are correct the sums are staggering. (Its one of his classic spiels.)
It’s not about the green industry and it isn’t about green jobs. It’s about getting green into the Democrat coffers. I mean, come on, folks, 45 permanent jobs resulting from $1 billion in loans, start-up costs for solar industry firms? Forty-five permanent jobs at between 16 and $23 million a job? That’s not what this is about. Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who is really, really wrapped up deep in this, and if there needs to be a fall guy on this, that’s who it’s going to be. Mark my words. Steven Chu said — and he’s a Nobel Prize winner, by the way, right along with Obama. “If we want to be a player in the global clean energy race, we must continue to invest in innovative technologies that enable commercial-scale deployment of clean, renewable power like solar. Solar generation facilities, like the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project, help supply energy to local utilities and create hundreds of good, American clean energy jobs.”
Right, at a mere $16 million per job! Anybody stop and think maybe we can’t afford to be a player in “the global clean energy race” if it’s $16 million a job? Or maybe this isn’t the role of government? Maybe this is something that the private sector would do better. “The Crescent Dunes facility will generate power using concentrated solar power technology, in which a series of mirrors direct sunlight onto a receiver at the center of the plant,” kind of the way you used to kill ants with a magnifying glass — except we’re looking to power whole cities with this, which we can’t do. And in the process, how many birds and insects are these people going to kill?

I’m getting tired of seeing solar energy getting slagged here on SDA…it will have its place, and Canada has some of the leading technologies with companies like Quantum Solar out of Vancouver.
Just because a bunch of American parasites are milking gov’t subsidies and have no incentive to ever be commercially viable, doesn’t mean that companies that are bringing the technology forward, with private venture capital funds, should be tarred with the same brush.

Congratulations! You bought 57-year-old technology, and based on what I’ve seen in Cdn Tire, you probably paid between 15 and 20 times what it was worth. You of all people should have some interest in seeing the technology improve and become more cost effective. Otherwise you’re just as big a patsy as the Obama administration with their inane “green” subsidy programs that, if anything, discourage innovation.

“China: Chinese Banks Close to Collapse. Fears of zero growth
The Chinese Financial Index fell by 24%, more than that of European and American bank stocks. Chinese banks are plagued by insolvent debts due to loans to local governments and the stagnant property market. The country’s growth, currently estimated at 9.5%, is at risk
Thursday, September 29, 2011
By Asia News
Hong Kong (AsiaNews / Agencies) – The listings of Chinese banks have dropped to very low levels, raising fears that a collapse could wipe out the country’s growth. This is what emerges from news announced today by Bloomberg, according to whom the MSCI index for the Chinese financial sector fell 4% this month, much more than all the European, American and Japanese banks.
The problem is very serious, even though in the last 12 months the index has recorded 104 billion in earnings. Chinese banks’ troubles are being caused by insolvent bonds offered to local governments, as well as by loans made to support the building boom that has left 50 percent of newly-built houses unsold, and by slowing global economic growth, which penalizes Chinese exports to Europe and the United States.”

US futures are pointing down about 0.5%.
European markets aren’t moving particularly dramatically, but are down.
Commodities are actually up a little, with copper having stopped Wednesday’s bleeding.
Today should be particularly interesting. It’s the last day of the quarter, and since it was so violent there could be a lot of last-minute moves/window-dressing, etc. as managers look to pretty up their portfolios before sending out statements to clients. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: The market selloff is getting worse on this last day of the quarter. Dow futures are off over 100. Europe is really not looking so hot. Germany is off over 2.5% right now.”

I agree with you turtle. I think that solar energy does have a place and will improve. I looked up Quantum Solar. Quantum dot technology does seem to offer a new and useful approach. They claim that they can eventually rival coal power for cost and efficiency–we’ll see. But if it could replace coal, especially in places like China where they are building two coal plants per week. That’s staggering.

“Her thoughts were similar to those of Maurice Strong, the former Trudeau ally who was the godfather of the UN’s environmental programs, who in 1990 told a reporter that he’d been fantasizing about a scenario:
What if a small group of these world leaders were to conclude that the principal risk to the Earth comes from the actions of the rich countries? In order to save the planet, the group decides: Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring this about?
Mr. Strong claimed it was only a plotline for a novel he was thinking of writing. And I don’t for a minute think he actually imagined it would be possible to get away with such manipulation of economies and nations. But I do suspect it was more than the outline for a thriller. I do suspect Mr. Strong wished it were possible.”

Next to the the Clifford Olson link above from the CBC there’s a story titled “Violent Mob Storms Saskatchewan Hospital”.
Well, that got my attention. Are the homocidal, gun-clingin’ peasants finally rioting with pitchforks and torches against the ghost of Tommy Douglas? I had to know; yet the story at the ceeb lacked context, somehow.
I admit I did have my suspicions but after I googled: “La Loche, Saskatchewan” they were… I got more suspicious. I headed to the comments:
“As if a newstory like this isn’t horrifying enough, we have to decend into comments like about ethnicity (Denesuline people with 95% first language retention) and that the police should pull out of the community. When riots happen in other cities, and people of many ethnicities throw down, we don’t see comments about Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton being terrible places to live or what ethnic groups were involved in the riots…” said some public discourse guardian whose name I can’t be bothered to go back and look up. “Snafu as China space launch set to US patriotic song”
“It was supposed to be a patriotic tribute to China’s technological prowess. Instead, a video showing the launch of China’s first space station module inadvertently glorified the country’s biggest rival.
A video animation put together by state television to mark the highly publicised launch of Tiangong-1 — or “Heavenly Palace” — is set to the music of “America the Beautiful”, a patriotic song about the United States.
China sees its ambitious space programme as a symbol of its global stature and Internet users who recognised the tune were surprised at the choice of music for the space launch — a proud moment for the Asian nation.
“At the time, I was eating in a hotel with foreigners from an American company and Chinese clients and we were watching the live broadcast,” posted one user on Sina’s Weibo, China’s answer to Twitter.
“All the Chinese there wanted to disappear,” he said of the embarrassed response.
It was unclear whether the choice of song — which includes the line “America! America! God shed His grace on thee” — was a mistake.
The video, which is more than a minute long and can be accessed on broadcaster CCTV’s English-language website, features only the music from the song and not the lyrics (http://newscontent … ileId=117772).”

Stan – Huffpo is officialy doing a better job reporting Canadian news than our beloved CBC is. At least the words: “Clearwater Dene River First Nation” showed up towards the bottom of the piece. (There was even a reference to gangs.) They were sort of obliquely referring to some other incident, not this one or anything, but still, that’s at least a nudge and a hint, so thanks Zsazsa.
BTW,the Saskatoon paper has a litle more detail on this incident, starting with a photo of the burnt truck with a caption that explains, “An RCMP truck was set on fire and dozens of civilians created a chaotic mob scene”.
Darn civilians, also the truck wasn’t insured(?) and the mayor plays the incident down as a few “bad apples”.
