Now is the Time at SDA When We Juxtapose

Dreams:
Aug 11, 2009: President Obama calls for civility in the health care debate.
Feb 4, 2010: President Obama calls for civility at National Prayer Breakfast.
Jan 12, 2011: President Obama calls for civility after Tucson shooting.
Reality:
Sept 5, 2011: Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa called on workers to “take these son-of-a-bitches out” as he warmed up a crowd Monday in Detroit ahead of President Obama’s Labor Day speech.
Sept 5, 2011: Vice-President Joe Biden referred to members of the Tea Party as “Barbarians at the Gate“. This is a reference to the less than civilized hordes who eventually took over the Roman Empire. Such a classy way for a VP of the United States of America to describe his own people, eh?!

Update: Immediately after Hoffa threatened his fellow Americans, Obama had the opportunity to encourage him to strive for civility. He did not. Instead, he included him in a list of folks he’s “proud” of.   h/t Marc in Calgary

  1. Thanks Robert!
As I said in the other thread, Jimmy Hoffa Jr. there is going to lead 2,000 SEIU thugs in a march against a Tea Party event one of these days. And find 200,000+ Tea Partiers showed up.
Union movement: its all over but the shouting.

  2. Obama and civility? Really?
Didn’t Obama insult Paul Ryan to his face about Ryan’s budget? He invited Ryan to his own budget speech, had him sit below him, and then, told Ryan that his plan was ‘unAmerican’ and suggested Ryan ‘wasn’t a serious person’.
What about insulting the Supreme Court Justices to their face? What about insulting Gordon Brown and Netanyahu?
And what about exhorting Hispanics to go out and ‘fight the enemy’ (meaning Americans opposed to amnesty); what about telling Republicans that they must be prepared to ‘sit in the back’. What about describing Christians in the midwest as ‘red-necked and ignorant’. What about his insults to the Tea Party?
Does he stop his administrators from their insults to these same groups? Does he stop them from defining the Tea Party as ‘terrorists’?
Obama is vicious and malicious to those who reject him.

  3. War… Army…. take these sonsabitches out…. next thing you know, they’ll be putting cross-hairs on districts that could switch their votes next election. Oh, the humanity!

  4. poppa hoffa asked his lawyer if he could find someone to OFF JFK, then poppa hoffa bragged about “have gotten that SOB”, then poppa hoffa disappeared. Maybe junior hoffa needs to follow poppa?

  5. Don’t anybody hold your breath waiting for Obama to denounce one of his warm-up acts, in the way that McCain did in 2008 when a talk-show host dared to emphasize Obama’s middle name.
The ugly rhetoic just adds on to the “Go To Hell” comments of Congresswoman Waters and the “hanging on a tree” comments of Congressman Carson.
It’s all part of implementing Saul Alinsky’s Rule No. 12, “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it,” as the 2012 election campaign unfolds.
Obama needs them since he can’t demonize all by himself, can he? He must remain “Presidential.”

  6. Having grown up in the Windsor area … this nothing new from the Teamsters.
I recall an undercover FBI video at one of Hoffa Sr. union votes. It was in a huge hall , maybe 1000 guys.
The Hoffa goons were at all the exits.
The chairman calls for a vote … ” All in favour raise your hands” …. 100% …”Opposed” … no hands in the air.
    Union democracy.

  7. This all started when Skip Gates was arrested. Obama said the officer made a stupid mstake but then the facts got in the way.
That incident was initially written off as a inexperience…..it actually was character.
And notice Joe Wilson had to apoloize for calling the Preseident “idiotic”, he rightfully moved it to the President’s actions being idiotic. But Obama will never rebuke or apologize an apparchik or an agent provactuer. Only if it ets tied to him.
Its Alinskyesque, its his character, its his own belief that his motives are above reproach but this justifies his tactics.
    Hoffa is a troll.

  8. As Jack Handey might say, Obama talks about civility, but I don’t think Obama would know civility if it bit him on the ass.

  9. Obozo and hoffa, two drowning men pulling each other down. obozo knows this isn’t good politics, but he’s desperate for union support. hoffa probably amped up the rhetoric to make sure obozo is onside…or maybe he’s just a dull-witted slug who enjoys talking tough. (Dad? Dad? Can you hear me down there? Look out for the pitchfork!)

  10. Anything to get his name in the news.
Trying to let the Mafia leaders know Jimmy Hoffa Jr. is in charge.
    It is also called,
“Keeping your feet out of the Cement and off the bottom of lake Ontario”.
He is desperate to recoup their 30-40 million dollar campaign losses through graft,
donations and embezzlement from the teamsters union faithful..
But he and Obamas leash holders know it is all probably a lost cause.
    38% approval rating and falling..
Come the Ides and winds of November-
    Bambie is going down..

  11. According to Drudge, Joe “Bite Me!” Biden was at the AFLCIO today talking about “keeping the barbarians from the gates”.
There’s civility just bustin’ out all over the place today.

  12. “According to Drudge, Joe’Bite Me!’ Biden was at the AFLCIO today talking about ‘keeping the barbarians from the gate’ ”
Looks as though Biden has been talking with Larry Campbell, who gained a Senate seat in Canada after describing the Conservatives as Barbarians at the Gate.

  13. As you know, in the US, the Liberal definition of uncivil is a Rebpulican or Conservative disagreeing with a Liberal. Liberals, however, never think of themselves as uncivil because, when they disagree with a Repub/Conservative, they are “speaking truth to power.” Or something.

  14. Obama and his clan keep poking the lions with a stick while uttering the words, “calm down kitty”.

  15. The Liberal Media portray cons as violent unhinged loons whilst they refuse to report that the left are actually the ones with violence and hatred on their side. Offend them and get ready to get a stream of hateful profanity laced Emails, and the media yawns at their hatred.

  16. Ozero is just setting the table for an All Class Warfare Reelection Campaign.
It is going to be an ugly campaign form the Dumbocrats and their goons.

  17. Wow! It has a ring of the Liberal Party bitterness when they realized they were out of bullets in the last election campaign. The Democrats are going into the next election with no bullets and are going down hard and there is nothing they can do about it short of fixing the economy which seems to be heading South.
I guess they are going to campaign on how scary the Republicans are. A similar policy didn’t work for the Liberals in 3 Canadian elections.

  18. Hoffa Jr. seems to be forgetting that there are Teamster members who belong to the Tea Party.

Yeah that would be a Little Big Horn type event.
    Union Autumn…
Over at PJM..Zombi covers a union/Green counter demonstration in Napa against the Teaparty Express Tour…..epic fail….

  20. Bambi’s calls for civility are nothing but a tactic,
and one intended for offence not defence. “Please
don’t be such a thug” is a quick translation. It’s
well worn at this point, as Robert notes. The boy
never learns: it is one of his dominant characteristics.

  21. Drained Brain and rindlrad spell it out well. Civil discourse to a Marxist is you agreeing with them, otherwise you need to be taken out. As someone already mentioned, it is in Alinsky’s rule book and going back in history it was in Lenin’ rule book also.

  22. Obama is vicious and malicious to those who reject him.
Obama is as vicious and malicious as those who reject him.
    That’s the way politics rolls.
Both sides are vicious and malicious.
Elect better people to represent you if you want that to change.

  23. IMO, what’s changed is that Obama and the far-left are no longer controlling the conversation and it’s driving them crazy. For example, look at the recent debate regarding the debt ceiling. The TEA Partiers were able to shift the conversation from how much to raise taxes and how much to raise the debt ceiling to whether the debt ceiling should be raised at all and how much to cut expenses. This is a huge shift in American political thought processes and speaks, I think, to the increasing influence of the TEA Party.
As Obama loses more and more control over the narrative, he and his followers are going to get increasingly violent. It’s the Chicago way. My hope is that Obama and his friends find out that what is considered normal behavior in Chicago is a huge turn-off for much of the rest of the country. I think Wisconsin was the first skirmish.

  24. wait till we get closer to election time and BHO starts scratching his cheek with his middle finger again. of course the MFM will fail to call him on it…. again.

  25. North of 60 – are you serious? Do you actually believe that IF someone rejects Obama, THEN, they are ‘vicious and malicious’???
Are you actually saying that one cannot reject Obama..or..they’ll be accused of being ‘vicious and malicious’?
My point is that Obama, who is pathologically narcissistic, cannot handle rejection and criticism. He needs to feel that He controls You. If you reject him, he feels threatened by this loss of control. So, he becomes ‘vicious and malicious’.

  26. North of 60 – are you serious? Do you actually believe that IF someone rejects Obama, THEN, they are ‘vicious and malicious’???
Are you actually saying that one cannot reject Obama..or..they’ll be accused of being ‘vicious and malicious’?

Can’t you read? What part of
“Both sides are vicious and malicious.”
    couldn’t you grasp?
The name calling and vicious invective directed at Obama here and elsewhere is as bad as anything the left is spewing.
I believe Obama is totally incompetent, so don’t start unloading your crap on me. I also believe that name-calling and the other vicious crap that’s spewed here is no better than what the ‘other side’ spews.

  27. Another of Bambi’s tactics is to be enthusiastic and encouraging
when he likes a statement, but vague and noncommittal when he does not.
In this way he attempts to guide discussion and debate. He was
using it during July, although I doubt that he heard very much
    that he liked.
Bambi has now given his approval for Teamster thuggery.
Tiberius as Emperor had a variant on this tactic. He always wanted to maintain the fiction of the Roman Republic.
During a debate if he liked a proposal he would speak in a vague way against it.
It was a healthy practice to vote for proposals on which Tiberius appeared mildly negative.
On the other hand if he spoke warmly in favour of a proposal it was best for the proposer get to the harbour and away immediately.
Tiberius was a perverted sadistic tyrant but a perverted sadistic tyrant with class!

IMO, people posting on SDA and calling Obama names is not the same as the President of the United States sharing a podium with someone like Hoffa and not distancing himself from the violence Hoffa promoted. A Republican would be crucified for the same behavior, and rightly so.
I don’t believe any leaders on the right (e.g., McConnell, Boehner, Palin, etc.) have encouraged others to act violently. I could be wrong, of course. Do you have any evidence to support that both sides are equally vicious and malicious?

  29. north of 60 – what people say on blogs, left and right, is not the point.
Your original post referred to ELECTED representatives, i.e., you told us to ‘elect better people to represent you if you want that to change’.
By this sentence, I presumed you referred to ELECTED representatives…not the rhetoric on blogs.
You now seem to be equating an elected leader of ALL Americans with the verbiage of partisan people, unelected, on blogs. There’s no equivalence.
As rindirad has pointed out, the comparison ought to be between the elected on both sides – and you don’t get much invective to ‘go out and fight your enemies’ and ‘they are terrorists’ and ‘take those tea party sons of bitches out’…from the GOP or Conservative side.

  30. “Never argue with an idiot. They’ll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience, and onlookers may not be able to tell who is the idiot.”
most often attributed to Mark Twain

  31. North of 60 wrote: The name calling and vicious invective directed at Obama here and elsewhere is as bad as anything the left is spewing.
Bullsh*t. You want to win you get down in the muck and fight. You want to take the so called high road you lose. Screw the left. They want dirty, give them what they want. Just my opinion.

  32. Well, okay then. The battle lines are drawn and Obama’s goons drew them. It’s refreshing (and safer for us) to know exactly who the enemy is and what they think.

  33. “taking out those sons-of-bitches”-
The very people paying the bills.
The very people fighting for our freedom in all
    corners of the world.
