Post Torch Stress Syndrome

Citius, Altius, Fund Us:

The police guard for the 70-day Olympic torch relay will be offered psychological counselling to help them “reintegrate” after the event.

Some 28 unarmed Metropolitan Police officers will guard the Olympic flame as it journeys around the UK in 2012.

According to a Met spokesman,

“Occupational health specialists are already developing plans. The met already has specialists who work with officers. These include counsellors, occupational psychologists and other medical staff.”

  1. While I think this is insane, I will reserve judgement until a police officer who reads this board confirms or denies the need for counseling after being taken off regular duties for 70 days.

  2. Sounds like a convention of Witchs & Warlocks.
Here to introduce the Satanic rite of Multicultural political correctness. In case one of the Police actually does their job.

  3. I’m traumatized from reading the articles in EBD’s last two posts. Post post traumatic stress disorder? Someone hold me.

  4. And to think, the British Empire once ruled the seas and the sun never set upon its flag. Sad it has come to this. Pitty.
They sure are a greedy group of police officers – are they afraid to share the work with the rest of the police forces; like we did in Canada during last Olympic Tourch run.
What a cruel police force that would not permit their wives and children to see them off duty. Compaired to Canada, it is a very small distance for the tourch to travel, and they need the same police officers for everything? The must have a great union.

  5. Poor blokes could end up with terrible travel trauma. tttttttttttt…..
    Say that three times fast.

  6. They are the descendants of those that created an empire on which the sun never set?

  7. Someone tell Angela that these guys are ripe for the picking. My God, what a bunch of clowns!

  8. “These include counsellors, occupational psychologists and other medical staff.”
um, this is a relay carrying a symbolic torch by severely normal people. Counsellors, occupational psychologists et al, need not apply.
Although if it was me with that torch, I’d prefer my bobbies were armed

  9. I’m a medically retired police officer, (ptsd) and things like this anger me. It trivializes the issue and makes it more difficult for those who are genuinely affected by ptsd and other operational stress injuries to get proper treatment and compensation. mike

  10. Well, the only truly surprising thing about this is that even the BBC finds it ‘barking mad’. I’d have expected that reaction from the Sun or the Daily Mail but the BBC?

  11. Mike I agree I have children that suffer PTSD ( they are christian from Sudan) and this sort of thing does indeed trivialize their torturous condition. PTSD is not funny in the least.

  12. Looks like the ‘meek’ have indeed inherited the world …. but you can bet they won’t hang on to it much longer. the Morlock are ….. waiting and they are getting impatient..

  13. My wife had the honour of briefly carrying the torch during the run up to the Olympics,
It was uneventful except for good natured, drunken mobbing by giant beavers pushing a local brew.
The story here was that one of the accompanying RCMP security guys, an extremely fit, wiry mid fifties dude, had run with the torch for virtually the full length of the marathon. That would put him up there with Terry Fox,
He managed to pull this off quietly and with out drama, psychological counselling or even grief counsellors.
Maybe we could second him to the Brits to show how it’s done

  14. What are the odds that some of them will be on permanent disability after the trauma of watching a flame on a stick?
Pathetic loser trough sucking union parasites.

  15. This is clearly an employment program for under-utilized UK medical specialists. Who clearly don’t have enough to do, what with the riots and all…

I would change the meek has inherited the World, to with Cowards.
The meek will at least die for what they believe in. The cowards? Never.Unfortunatly we use the term Meek wrongly.
    Word Origin & History
    meek
c.1200, “gentle, courteous, kind,” from O.N. mjukr “soft, pliant, gentle,” from P.Gmc. *meukaz (cf. Goth. muka-modei “humility,” Du. muik “soft”), of uncertain origin. Use to translate L. mansuetus from Vulgate (see mansuetude). Sense of “submissive” is from mid-14c.

  17. As an undercover RCMP member I spent 3 months away from family buying drugs from dangerous people…..I did numerous undercover operations the many years in was with the Force and faced dangerous situation many times, fights, shooting and you know what I never received couselling. I have to laugh at this article…..If a person needs counselling for something so minor as this, maybe he should choose a new career….
