President Obama hopes to build political momentum for his view of immigration reform today, but a big meeting at the White House this afternoon does not include members of Congress.
Obama meets with what the White House describes as “senior administration officials and stakeholders” to discuss plans for tighter border security border as well as a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who are already in the U.S.

When damage to the economy from an individual is counted in trillions, there have to be some checks and balances.
For example in the Soviet Union if one stole 1000 roubles, which was my dad’s half year’s salary, they would go to jail for 2 years. If they stole a million, they could have ended up being shot. Just saying.
Gee, no federal or state public officials were invited to a friendly White House meeting intended specifically for external (i.e., not federal or state public official) stakeholders. What a scandal.
So why was a Facebook exec invited, you ask? My guess, it’s partly because Sandberg sits on the Obama Administration’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, and there’s a link between immigration reform and high-tech workers in terms of H1-B visa reform. In fact, the Republican-chaired House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a special hearing just a day earlier that included talk of that.
Oh, but nevermind. Obama-bashing is basically SDA’s new bread-and-butter, and any excuse to launch (yet) another round of frothing comments will do. Spew forth, manufactured outrage, spew forth!

How would one feel if one left their former homeland, had to learn English, a new set of rules, customs, laws and taken two or so jobs just to support oneself, all in hopes that this would be sufficient proof of desire and effort for citizenship? Now imagine being told that those whose interest in the new homeland is practically nil are getting amnesty. All of a sudden, Obama’s “face time” with the handpicked few looks like a slap in the face.

Gretta’s interview was interesting regarding the stimulus program and downtown Flint. I almost moved there when offered a promotion and in hindsight I thank God I turned it down. Most recently the Flint Expatriates blog had a video touting Flint as the new murder capitol of the USA: more people killed there than in Bagdad. It’s gotten so bad churches have started to lock their doors during the daytime to keep from being broken into and robbed.

Good question that will most likely be answered in our courts.
Politically, I think Obama has played this issue very astutely. Obama’s “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” will be the main platform Obama runs-on in 2012. This will galvanize the Latino vote and put him over the top in 2012. It’s my view that only a GOP Senate and House can accomplish the task of “Comprehensive Immigration Reform”; and, the GOP will win the Senate and maintain Congress in 2012 but will not win the White House. Obama will demonize the GOP and their hate for Latinos and likely hoodwink the GOP into getting the bill done. The GOP will errantly hope for a bump in support in the Latino demographic for the Reform, but will get none because of the ground work rhetoric laid by BO over the years, and the GOP’s lack of understanding to ‘why’ they won’t get said votes.
Once amnesty is invoked at the behest of the GOP with the help of BO, the tectonic shift in American politics will be complete. America will no longer be a small ‘c’ conservative nation.
The GOP have been sorely outmaneuvered and strategized by the Democrats in the last decade of so. Under GWB the GOP focused so hard on short-term gains that they lost sight of the long-term political game. I see no way out for America without a Super Majority in 2012 including the Presidency. This is the only way the GOP can hope to gain any credit for the amnesty bill that IS coming. I give the GOP a 40% chance of winning that election and I’m being optimistic.
Realistically speaking, I think the likely middle term outcome of the politics in America will be the eventual dissolution of the Republic. It’s become very apparent to many conservatives that there is no longer a shared vision between the combatants in what Bill O’Reilly calls the “culture war”. The mass exodus of middle class families from Blue states with major metropolises’ like California over the last decade has effectively balkanized much of America into two distinct societies.
Furthermore, this timeline coincides with what appears to be an inevitable Constitutional conflict here in Canada. Interesting times might call for interesting bedfellows (no homo), and who knows what type of trade and sovereignty agreements can be made between states and provinces such as Alberta and Texas.

I posed the scenario some time ago that violence at the boarder (say Arizona) can likely be the catalyst for the CWII you describe. I suggested a scenario where Arizona citizens/militia are finally fed-up and they confront Mexican drug runners (with human shields intact) and the shooting begins. Then… the Federal government out of necessity sends the National Guard to the Boarder to protect the “innocent” “undocumented Americans” (illegal immigrants) from the criminals (Arizonans) who are over-stepping their jurisdiction (immigration). WHEN the National Guard opens fire on Arizonans (for example) to protect the Mexicans… IT’S ON…as the kids today say.

Perhaps they didn’t want detailed discussion- you know.. something more general, a macro view of the problem, maybe a high level view or perhaps a broad brush-stroke picture.

Obama’s game plan is clear: Run the country by executive order – i.e. dictat. He will circumvent the US constitution by EOs and getting the bureaucratic organisations to issue more “regulations” which do not require congressional approval.

Already well under way, dude.
Civilian groups -regularly- patrol the desert between Phoenix and the border. They regularly get in gun fights with drug runners, and win. They find corpses of men, women and kids in the desert down here pretty much daily. The drug cartels have put watchers on all the mountain tops down near the border, and these civilians go out on their own stick to watch, harass, scare and generally mess with these cartel clowns.
Apart from the odd Sheriff’s deputy, they’re the only people who are patrolling. Buzz I’m getting from a variety of sources is that the Border Patrol has been flatly ordered to stand down. They don’t go after the illegals, apparently.
Border Patrol is however known to arrest and/or hassle the above mentioned civilian groups, including giving up their location over unencrypted radio… which the cartel listens to.
Like I said Phantom, the iSht hits the fan when the National Guard or some other government agency opens fire on “documented” Americans.JMO
