   I’ll believe that Layton, or any other politician, really cares about the average working family when they find a way to slash taxes so that tax freedom is no later than March 31 rather than last year’s June 5.
   The average family is more than capable of looking after themselves and saving for their futures if only the state didn’t take so damn much away.

   I’m not exactly rejoicing yet, but hoping that there are seats where Layton will steal enough votes from Iggy to put the CPC candidate into the House. Hopefully there are at least a few current Liberal ridings where Jack’s crew is running a credible candidate.
   Unlike the situation in my riding of Saint Boniface (Manitoba) where Jack had the option to run a credible candidate but opted instead for an unknown law student. Here we are hoping that our CPC candidate will be able to steal enough votes from Iggy to compensate for the votes Iggy will get from the NDP. I think Iggy may have helped us a little last night.

   “OTTAWA—Toronto’s Jack Layton and Olivia Chow are Ottawa’s million-dollar couple.
   “According to recently released House of Commons records, the NDP leader and his long-time wife, Chow, who is MP for Trinity Spadina, charged Canadian taxpayers about $1.16 million in MP expenses last year for running their offices, living in Ottawa and paying for associated travel costs.
   “‘Yes, it is (a lot of money) and we appreciate the compensation that’s been established . . . but it is a lot less than the leaders of two of the other political parties,’ Layton, who is MP for Toronto Danforth, told the Toronto Star. . . .
   “To stay in their home away from home, they charged a total of $42,478 for accommodation and per diem expenses.
   “Chow was reimbursed $17,010.20, while Layton charged the maximum of $25,468 [but they live together, so why did they BOTH take the allowance?].”

   Yes, strange that it’s in the Star, water boy for the Liberals, or maybe not: I was thinking of that. Could it be that Bob Rae’s their boy and dissing Jack Layton fits that agenda? Who knows?
