    I didn’t watch the debate nor comment in Kate’s earlier thread regarding it, there isn’t anything these clowns can say that would change my mind. I’ll simply vote for the least objectionable candidate in my riding. er… not the Liberal ex judge with the minor controversy of not jailing sex offenders for minimum sentences, in my riding.
    Iggy didn’t look too comfortable (above in the video), and his suit doesn’t fit well.

    (I feel bad for the guy. When (not if) he does lose he’s going to either have to tough it out and live in Canada for the rest of his life in order to live down the “just visiting” rap or confirm it and return to inhabiting the musty grad lounges in the US or the UK and leave a lot of LPC supporters with egg on their face)
    BTW: does any one know where I could view the whole debate online? I would really like to see the point where PMSH corners mr ignatieff on the coalition issue. Behind the clip above, that may be the biggest takeaway of the evening.

  24. The Conservatives won. Harper showed how a leader acts: cool, calm and talking directly to Canadains. Iggy was shrill and strident, with his incessant personal attacks. He showed us exactly how he would govern, ie. attack and blame everyone else and say nothing substantive. Layton was excellent; his performance will pull a lot of Liberal votes away from Iggy, and give the Conservatives a better shot at a majority. The guy from Quebec was an irritating distraction. The best thing a Conservative majority can do is change the rules so that no party can have Federal standing unless they run candidates in 90% of the ridings across the country.

  25. Jack did a great job tearing at Iggy and the zinger of the night was , as everyone agrees, the 70% absentee rate of Iggys. I thought he was going to faint dead away when Jack said that.
    Jack is a little banty rooster for sure but a commie is a commie whether hes red or green. I am for the asteroid to hit all three and end their childish bickering. Dueceppe has NO business in Parliament OR on a National leaders debate. He makes it clear he considers himself the leader of a nation and outside Canada. For ALL but the money, honey.

  27. And the real potboiler secret is that liberal red book, in which they intend to raise the corp tax rate 18% ( they say TO 18% but I do not believe that either. Their global warming plan will send gas to 9 bucks a litre, $35 a gallon and cost 40 TRILLION dollars. NOT a hint of it. Not whisper.
    The gentleman Harper was quoting often in the debate is a world respected economist and he is the one who said the red book global warming plan would kill this country dead!

  29. I watched for the first 45 minutes and by then the opposition had pretty well run out of bullets and actually looked tired. Not sure how many times Mikey mentioned corporate taxes and how he would like to raise them to 18%; anybody who actually works for a corporation would have to be a complete fool to vote for him.
    Reminds me of Keith Richards line in his new book discussing why they moved to France, “”the tax rate in the early 70s on the highest earners was 83%, and that went up to 98% for investments and so-called unearned income. So that’s the same as being told to leave the country.””
    Maybe that’s the Lib plan to lower green-house gases, get all the natural resource companies to leave.

    2. When i see Mr. ignatieff smile i am reminded of how P.J. O’Rourke described Jimmy Carter’s Grin: He said he looked like a Raccoon eating $hit from a wire brush.

    Jack did an excellent job as wingman for PMSH. he just drubbed Mr. Ignatieff on everal points. Very quick on his feet.

PMSH was the only man on that stage who gives two rips and a damn about Canadian citizens. The Prime Minister respects the people he works for, the other three only want to control every aspect of every life of every individual – Icky even mentioned controlling the food that his employers would be ‘allowed’ to eat, if he were given the power to run the country! He would drive us ruthlessly just like his ancestors ‘drove’ their former serfs. I guess it is part of his heritage.
    I share your observations re: ‘ordinary citizens’ Gord Turk. This was a msm set up and because they were setting the table for such incompetent idiots (Jack, Jill and Icky), the PM was able to dine while the rest of them grubbed for crumbs in the carpet.
    The msm were disgusting before and after the debate, they were like a mob of childish fans cheering for a ‘has been’ team, a team that took very good care of them. These infantile yappers are not reporters or journalists, they are biased, nasty gossips looking for a free ride on the taxpayers dime – they are not getting the luxury goodies since the CPC took over.

  46. In my eyes I think the Cons won, yet, I think Biffy lost the support with the English debate. Though Taliban Jack’s stance is opposite the Cons, at least he was consistent in his misguided attacks. I think the greatest insult is if he got more seats than [or equal to] Biffy. It is bad enough the LIEberals are out of power, yet to be below the Non-Democratic Party would be the ultimate insult to Biffy and LIEberals. This is “strike two” and hope election is “strike three.”
    I’m still cautious on Harpers comment on Global Warming/Climate change. He almost seemed to agree that the federal government will implement some sort of tax on carbon. Yet, I will give him the benefit of doubt at the present; my Con representative is closer to getting my vote, rather than an independent.

    They wish.
    Their guy, Iggy, totally bombed, demonstrated that he was an unexceptional debater (when he was being touted as the intellectual, Harvard man-to-beat), and then was called out by Jack Layton on the fact that he missed 70% of the votes in the HOC (way to go, Jack!), making it clear to Canadian voters that the Count is nothing but an accidental politician (but an intentional pensioner — which is what his gig in Canada is really all about).
    Taber and Nanos are media toadies. Ribbit-ribbit.

    Folks, it was a 120-minute debate. How about those other 114 minutes, where Harper and Layton wiped the floor with Iggy?

  50. Layton landed the only uppercut of the night, and this was it. And Kate is correct; when liblogs calls it a tie, you know it was a horrible night for Iggy.
    One funny thing: Commentators often describe Harper as uncharismatic, starchy, rigid, etc. But it seems to me Iggy is the one who lacks poise and charisma on the public stage. Harper may not be as telegenic as Layton, but he is far better than Iggy.
