Its completely absurd, does anyone with an actual functioning brain really think that the thousands of seperate and often warring tribes had some sort of collective name for the continent?
Only a white person could come up with this.
You’re right Bob. “Turtle Island” is a White man’s extrapolation of the oral history of one particular tribe. Can’t remember which tribe, but the story developed something like this:
A tribal elder was explaining to an anthropologist that according to their beliefs the universe rests on the back of a giant turtle. So the anthropologist asked the tribal elder a logical question: “if the universe rests on the back of a turtle, what does the turtle rest on?” The elder replied: “another turtle”. So the anthropologist asked, “so what does the next turtle rest on?” And the elder, getting exacerbated by the White man’s dumb logic, answered, “I dunno, I guess it’s turtles all the way down!”
“Turtle Island” should have been more accurately portrayed as “Endless Tower of Turtles” instead of romanticizing as an island.
They would also “adopt carbon pricing” to the tune of $33 Billion per year!
Well, they would “adopt carbon pricing” in hopes that it would yield $33 billion per year. My prediction is that those who were expected to pay the $33 billion would change their behavior so fast (mostly by leaving) that very little of that amount would ever be collected.
You probably know that, allan, but the observation that people change their behavior in response to incentives can never be repeated often enough.
This comment coming from south of the 49th to my friendly Turtle Island bloggers to the north…LOL

I blame Terry Pratchett.
Turtle Island? Damn. And I just printed out a whole batch of mailing labels.

That Green policy is the single most destructive idea the World has known. It is the root of all discord in society. Why?
Simply because “indigenous” is claimed by all factions. Whether by birth or ideology or circumstance or “word-from-above”, the effect is the same.
Multiculturalism is the Code-word. Wishful-thinking is the Muse. Control is the Strategy. Brain-wash is the Tactic.
The contemporary “Tower of Babel”, it is.
