See what happens when you allow Greens into a debate? Have a happy famine, Bolivia!

Bolivia is set to pass the world’s first laws granting all nature equal rights to humans. The Law of Mother Earth, now agreed by politicians and grassroots social groups, redefines the country’s rich mineral deposits as “blessings” and is expected to lead to radical new conservation and social measures to reduce pollution and control industry.
The country, which has been pilloried by the US and Britain in the UN climate talks for demanding steep carbon emission cuts, will establish 11 new rights for nature. They include: the right to life and to exist; the right to continue vital cycles and processes free from human alteration; the right to pure water and clean air; the right to balance; the right not to be polluted; and the right to not have cellular structure modified or genetically altered.
Controversially, it will also enshrine the right of nature “to not be affected by mega-infrastructure and development projects that affect the balance of ecosystems and the local inhabitant communities”.

Little opposition is expected to the law being passed because President Evo Morales’s ruling party, the Movement Towards Socialism, enjoys a comfortable majority in both houses of parliament.

  2. Such idiocy that I’m almost at a loss for words. I guess that any worries Bolivia might have about overpopulation are solved by the right to not have cellular structure modified or genetically altered
    The mechanism of action of penicillins and cephalosporins is to alter the structure of bacterial cell walls in a manner that they can no longer prevent bacteria from exploding due to their high internal osmotic pressure. That same “right” would also ban cooking as heat has significant effects on cellular structure. If there’s such a thing as a Darwin award for a country, Bolivia will be very tough to beat.

    Can Japan file suit against Mother Nature for damages?

  19. In 20 years people will not remember there was a Boliva. The roads will become overgrown and contact will slowly cease. In one hundred years someone bored kid will blog about finding interesting old road networks in the Andes on Google Earth.

  20. Until the time I was 4 years old, my family used far less water than your typical family of today. The greenies might have applauded us for that since we seemed so much more “in balance” with nature back then. However, the main reason we used so much less water was that our farmhouse didn’t have a flush toilet. My mother had to carry a bucket of #$%@ from the basement to the outhouse every few days. That’s an example of the ugly side of “green” existence that Canada’s latte-sipping bubble-dwelling suburbanite greenies don’t like to acknowledge. We would be so much better off if they would all just move to Bolivia to help Mr. Morales’ Movement to Socialism. Lead by example, please!

  23. Try reading the comments after the article; one doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
    The benefit to this type of greenish groupthink is that when you put all these loons together, drive out any of the producers/entrepreneurs and others that actually FEED the useless ones… with their typically anti-humanist views and low birthrates, why then – ta da – problem solved! They remove their own community carbon footprint. QED.
    One could call them dinosaurs, but even the dinosaurs fought to survive. I’d spring for a ticket for Layton/May to visit the “new” Bolivia, but it’d be only a 1-way’er.

    Today in America there are nearly twice as many people working for the government (22.5 million) than in all of manufacturing (11.5 million). This is an almost exact reversal of the situation in 1960, when there were 15 million workers in manufacturing and 8.7 million collecting a paycheck from the government.
    It gets worse. More Americans work for the government than work in construction, farming, fishing, forestry, manufacturing, mining and utilities combined. New Jersey has just under two-and-a-half as many government employees as manufacturers. Florida’s ratio is more than 3 to 1. So is New York’s.
    Even Michigan, at one time the auto capital of the world, and Pennsylvania, once the steel capital, have more government bureaucrats than people making things. The leaders in government hiring are Wyoming and New Mexico, which have hired more than six government workers for every manufacturing worker.

  46. Bolivia — the poorest country in the Western hemisphere next to Haiti. The country where Ernest Ché Guevara attempted to replicate Castro’s communist revolution in the ’60’s, failed miserably and was killed there. The country ironically named after the great democratic liberator of South America: Simón Bolívar.
    So now the fascist Left is attempting it again, via Hugo Chavez’s misnomered “Bolivarian Revolution”, but this time in cohoots with the likes of fascist Iran which is providing aid and financing institutions. But there’s a trade-off: the Bolivian institutions that Iran finances are required to observe Sharia law. Bolivians (who are largely Amerindian or Christian) are forced to wear hijabs when employed in Iranian financed medical facilities.
    Fabulous, so now we have “the great Nation of Bolívar” — already impoverished from generations of corruption — being “blessed” with a Marxist dictatorship combined with fascistic Islamism.
    BTW, wasn’t that the original vision of Ghadaffi for Libya? So why are we invading Libya but not Bolivia?
