In 1961 the late Mitch Miller – who passed away just last year at the ripe old age of 99 – debuted his Sing Along With Mitch program on the NBC television network. The format of the show was as straightforward as its visual presentation: a bunch of upright folks, typically standing in loose formation on an open set, would cheerfully and exuberantly sing oldies, while the affable and outgoing Miller would animatedly enjoin the home viewing audience to sing along using the handy onscreen lyrics. Later in the shows, a celebrity guest or two would typically join in on the fun. Take a trip back through time and watch part of a 1963 episode of the unabashedly démodé Sing Along With Mitch.

    If I were to say it, for example, it would written off by liberals as coming from the national editorial writer of a right-wing rag of a newspaper chain in order to promote disharmony, and bent on raking the mud in advance of the launch of the Sun News TV network and the simultaneous end of the world as we know it.

    Michael Trebilcock calls Ontario’s wind energy policy “one of the biggest boondoggles in the history of the province” that seriously affects the economy, the environment and employment.
    Under the provincial government’s feed-in-tariff policy wind energy developers are paid 80 cents a kilowatt hour for energy produced by wind turbines whether there is need for the electricity at the time or not. That compares to six cents a kilowatt hour that consumers pay for electricity
    Trebilcock predicts that over the next five years hydro rates will climb by 7.9% annually. An average hydro bill of $1,700 in 2010 will soar to $2,800 in 2015 and $4,100 in 2030
    He disputes claims that wind energy reduces carbon dioxide emissions. He says most wind turbines produce only about 25% of the amount of energy they are supposedly capable of ; It requires massive numbers of turbines to produce very little electricity
    “It displaces low cost hydro, nuclear power with no effect on lowering carbon dioxide emissions,” TrebiTrebilcock said the wind energy industry won’t come close to creating the 50,000 green jobs as promised by the former energy minister George Smitherman when he introduced wind energy to the province.
    Instead Trebilcock says skyrocketing hydro promises make small businesses uncompetitive and while it may create a few jobs it will kill many more.
    “Why have these policies been inflicted upon us,” Trebilcock said.

    Disgraced Liberal candidate Andre Forbes, who allegedly called natives “featherheads” and “lazy” years ago while heading a white rights group, isn’t going away quietly.
    And while Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff thinks he sacked Forbes as a Liberal candidate last week, apparently he can’t actually do that.
    Forbes, who will be addressing the media Monday to answer NDP “attacks” against him, is still listed as the confirmed candidate for the Quebec riding of Manicouagan on Elections Canada’s website.
    “And the law does not contain any provision that would allow a party to remove its support to a confirmed candidate,” Elections Canada’s Serge Fleyfel told Le Soleil newspaper. Only Forbes can resign, by 5 p.m. Monday.
    A member of Forbes’ team told Le Soleil he hasn’t ruled out running as an Independent.
    “But his first option would be to remain as a Liberal candidate.”
    If he doesn’t resign, the Liberal Party will not be allowed to run another candidate in the riding.

  31. A draft is exactly that. Anyone who has been through any kind of audit will understand that a draft is prepared and reviewed with the individuals involved before being put in a final
    report. This allows the opportunity for the
    participants to clarify/amend/explain etc the issues. At times the draft reporrt is changed as a result of that.

  34. The G8 spend-a-thon is yet another reason why Conservatives should avoid pork barrel politics. It will turn around to bite them in the butt every time. Civil service employees in Ottawa are always going to be happy to leak reports to the media that are harmful to the CPC, preferably when they will do the most damage. I guess we now know what the debate will focus on tomorrow.
    It is not just stupid to give your opponents ammunition to shoot at you, it can be a fatal mistake.

    Iggy asked Harper, “Hey Steve, can you answer this for me? Your mother and father have a child and it’s not your brother or your sister. Who is it?” Harper answered back, “That’s easy you dummy, it’s me!”
