I know someone who lives in a “yuppie” NDP neighborhood who had a little gang of boys who took to the sidewalk chanting “turn out your lights” like the Children of the Dammned.
He moved.
Oh yeah, this is the weekend we light er up!!
Kathy,
Were they wearing Earth tone colored shirts? Like brown?
Did they paint “60” on the front doors of houses with lights on?
Just checkin
I shall continue to ignore “days” foisted on me by special interest groups, whether it’s one of the four “candy” days, greed day, gay pride day, earth day ,Marc Lepine day,Obama’s birth-day,Pierre Elliot Trudeau day,or any other designated “day”.
I still like the old style, Mon-day,Tues-day…etc., and see no reason to change because it makes some do-gooder feel self-satisfied.
Today is Satur-day,and I get to watch the Leafs NOT QUITE make the playoffs again.
a Bullseye target with a picture of David Soozkooky in the middle would also be good.
Nothing to click on the logo? Hmmm?
In any case, in our house we will be turning all the lights to celebrate human achievement hour.
Interest in this farce seems to be dropping off so it seems. http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20110326/earth-hour-110326/
Dmorris as a flames fan i am feelin your pain bro …but just like the flames the leaf’s really did turn there season around , good on both teams I am not upset at the flames for not making the playoff’s …but next year man they have GOT to get on there horse much much earlier in the season …they do this every year ..it does make for interesting hockey though…lol.
Wondering — would not the drop of use at the beginning of this ‘hour’, and the jump of demand at the end of it be somehow detrimental to the power grid?
Also — if power is produced using (their terms) “brown” sources, but goes unused, is that not producing a (their terms) “Carbon Footprint” of wasted energy?
Is this any different than simply burning barrels of oil with no net human benefit?
But “They” are the ecologically wise ones?
I’ll be plugging in my space heaters… outside, of course! 😀
Collectivism just does not work as a societal organization. It inevitably results in misery for the masses.
Can’t find the link?
It is now my profile picture on my facebook page !! lol!!
I see the Earth Hour poll over at CBC.ca still isn’t going very well.
One home in Sarnia Ontario will be well lit.
Drop around if you’re in the area. Just follow the sound of the 2-stroke snowblower engine running in the driveway. ( Gotta drain the tank for the season). Other surprises as well.
Check out sda archives for February.
When it started to hit the fan in Egypt, Kate was, with numerous post, warning us that the Muslim Brotherhood was on the move. The Lame Stream Media’s take? Apologetic as usual. The White House? Secular types.
I suspect that a lot of this apparent “participation” is merely to placate brain-washed children….sorta like the Santa thing…..or peace and quiet….
I live in the country and have several laser divises such as a level. Due to the highly suggestable nature of eco-zealots….in the off chance their zeal inspires them to violence…I shall from time to time shweep the surroundings with a laser. Visual cues are their thing so….
I recall last spring I was dethatching and sweeping my large lawn….when an OPP showed up…..they had had a complaint from a “jogger” that I was spraying my lawn……
And tomorrow we will continue Earth Week by having people use their backyards as toilets, rather than water-wasting, sewage-producing, indoor plumbing.
Not only will it save the planet, but it will do wonders for your tomato crop.
Murdering light is the perfect metaphor for the
greens. It is also anti_Christian, since Christianity puts emphasis on light – hence Gothic architecture.
From Milton:
“HAIL holy light, ofspring of Heav’n first-born,
Or of th’ Eternal Coeternal beam
May I express thee unblam’d? since God is light,
And never but in unapproachèd light
Dwelt from Eternitie, dwelt then in thee,
Bright effluence of bright essence increate”
Tonight I’ll be turning on all house lights then leaving for about an hour. I plan to go for a ride in the countryside. Six liters of straight piped GM V8 power will be awakening the countryside tonight. I wonder how much tire smoke adds to my carbon footprint…..
I expect the same houses around me to go dark again this year. I like to think that I have been the only beacon of light in my block for several years running now. Last year one other, on the street behind me, lit up as well so maybe some affect. I am only doing what I would normally do during “HAH” with maybe a tad extra effort of additional exterior lighting.
This year my town, Wasaga Beach, is promoting a contest for “EH”. It’s posted on our web site.. http://www.wasagabeach.com/
I replied by email to the municipal office responsible, as well as the mayor, inquiring if our municipal leaders had not received the “memo” and suggested I was not happy that some of my tax dollars were going to a prize promoting this farce. 🙂
Every light that I can turn on, will be on! Think that its a good time to turn the self cleaning oven on too. These greenie people drive me crazy. Special today, we got blessed with greenie Lizzard May….Oh God, help us all……………..
Now they’re warning people not to use candles for earth hour, may cause fires, use flashlights.
I heard they just shut the lights off so those of the Greenness , with its preclusion for the dark . So they in secret, can put on their Batman costumes , pretending to be enviromental Superhero’s.
JMO
How much pollution is caused by manufacture and disposal of flashlight batteries…
Anyways, mission accepted, I will spend the hour spamming every image board I can find with the above.
“I am all for Earth hour”
Are you all for living like that all night every night?
In the dark doing nothing? No movies…. no Sports… no restaurants….. And every one else just……. sitting there?
Yeah, though so. Idiot.
There should be a counter-Earth Hour movement. I just think it would be amusing to see houses decked out in full “Christmas-style” outdoor lighting during earth hour.
There, all the lights on, late supper using the oven, stove AND microwave underway. Entertainment centre on watching gas guzzling cars doing 190 mph in circles. Xbox on for no particular reason.
Even the ol OIL buring furnace knew it was 2030 hrs and came on!
May Day! May Day!
Red-Green AGW Hindenberg crashes.
A gift on Barrf Day for Liberal Count Green-Shaft Ignatieff.

Neighbourhood looks pretty normal for the time of night except for a house down the street. They have their Christmas lights on!! LMAO!
I think I’m gonna go out and burn some tires in a vacant lot. 😉
As for me, beating the crap out of some hippies – undeniably a good thing though it may be – has been vetoed in favor of a hearty pissup at a swanky, pricey lounge in order to celebrate my sis-in-law’s b-day.
If they turn the lights out it will only be to encourage some extracurricular fooling around among the patrons, but I’d prefer the music and lights remain full strength so I can read the cocktail menu.
Our hippie-dippie, green neighbours have their lights out. We don’t.
We’re also doing three laundries: washing and drying.
Until David Suzuki and Al Gore live in modest homes, which they don’t exorbitantly light or heat, and until they stop jetting all over the world making six-figures speechifying — like me — I’ll be darned if I’m going to do what they tell me to do.
Free thinker, could you give us a link to that CBC poll?

Scroll down, Kate posted it already.
Handy for “Earth Hour”. Here’s the IESO website where you can monitor with five minute updates the total Ontario electrical power consumption/generating capacity/price, with comparative graphs. http://www.iemo.com/imoweb/marketdata/marketToday.asp
It’s 8:35 pm. I have all the lights on, the dishwasher running and I have two loads of laundry underway.
Thanks, AtlanticJim. I’ve been away and missed Kate’s post … ‘Glad to see that by a wide margin (SDA gets results, by any chance?!) the non-participates outnumber the Suzuki/Gore-brainwashed sheeple.
This looks good, especially the Suzuki comment.
One home in Richmond Hill will be lit up.
