There will be no camp for the climate activists this year and the loose-knit organisation will be disbanded in 2011. The decision follows a five-day meeting to reach a consensus.

I’m curious if any of these “campers” have jobs or not? What surprises me is that no-one has used their own tactics against them. Surely a large smelly group of unemployed moonbats have a significant ecologic impact on the piece of land they’re “camping” on. Ask them if they’ve got the necessary environmental impact statement and other documentation required before they setup temporary dwellings. A group of people that large will be releasing huge quantities of dangerous CO2 and the “campers” should be offered a totally leakproof human sized plastic bag which they can crawl into to reduce their CO2 footprint.
I used to play with models as a kid. I remember that they were cheaper, scaled down versions of the real thing that usually couldn’t even look like they were doing what the real thing did. Anyone else try to get a model plane to fly?

The Harper government is projecting some major cuts to several of its environmental initiatives, including climate change and clean air, over the next year, according to newly released federal estimates.
The numbers, released Tuesday by the Treasury Board Secretariat, show a 59% cut in global-warming and air-pollution spending as part of more than $1.6-billion in annual, government-wide reductions to environmental services across the different federal departments. The shift is the equivalent to a 14% reduction in spending that also includes a $222-million or 20% reduction in spending at Environment Canada.
Natural Resources Canada is estimating a $928-million (21%) decrease in its spending for the next year, including a $390-million decrease in spending due to the end of a popular retrofit program that subsidized homeowners for renovations that reduce energy consumption and utility bills.
“There’s a lot of movement between programs, so check the websites themselves to see where that is,” said Treasury Board President Stockwell Day at a news conference outlining government spending cuts.
Other funding cuts at Environment Canada include a $19.5-million reduction related to the government winding down an action plan to deal with contaminated federal sites, as well as about $3-million (4%) in reductions for compliance promotion and enforcement for wildlife and pollution.”

I remember some documentary from a few years ago about some hippies that wanted to start a commune in the Yukon territory recreating explorers and early settlers path…It was stated to be all for a better life being part of a pollution free nature: Like the Avatar smurfs!
Many couples abandoned the trek early on because it was simply too hard…They had to build their own rafts to cross rivers and lakes, the whole bit.
The few couples that managed to make it all the way to their home building site eventually got on each others nerves from exhaustion and harsh elements…
Eventually, about 9 months later if I remember correctly, the last couple abandoned the site and went back to civilization.
It’s simple to explain why:
All these people were first born and raised in a modern setting…Every time a deer fly took a chunk off their skin, they thought of home. Every time they were in pain from too much logging through difficult terrain while soaking wet from a cold northern rain shower, they though of home. Every time they were reminded that in order to have hot water you first have to gather (dry) wood and start a fire, they though of home.
They simply realized that somewhere was a much better life…Back where they came from, pollution and all.
I call them big immature and misguided romantics that watched too much TV growing up.
I always thought the climate camps were an amusing concept. The eco-freaks created their very own gulags and voluntarily turned themselves into the inmates. There could be no better advertising of the kind of world in which they want us all to live.

Actually, their employment prospects are quite good. If American presidential elections are any guide, prominent positions in the government are a real possibility.

This group reminds me of the vegetarian guy who went to live in the woods a couple of years ago. He wanted to prove that his lifestyle (green and vegetarian) was viable. They found his body a few months later and his daily journal. The journal started off fairly coherent, but the last few weeks’ (of his life) entries were jumbled and incoherent. The coroner assessed that he had slowly starved to death on his diet, which was exacerbated by a non-life-threatening injury he sustained while he was “living on the land”. I need to mention here that he was not an accomplished outdoorsman and was a “city-slicker” who wanted to get back to nature. We should make stories such as these the new “Aesop’s fables” in order to teach our kids how life really works.

Anybody know where? I assume somewhere with a relatively mild climate, Saanich peninsula,Gulf Islands,NOT Dease Lake or Fort St.John.
Every Winter in the late 40’s and early 50’s,our family travelled to an island where we had a fishing camp. We usually spent September to April “up the lake”.
The nearest town was 40 miles away. We had no communication with the outside world,no plumbing,central heating,electricity,TV, newspapers,and almost no contact with other human beings except for the occasional visit from a trapper on his way back to civilization.
My Mother had to cook for five men,plus raise seven kids. Mom’s opinion of people who want to “throw off the trappings of civilization to live like the pioneers” is not very respectful.
When you mention these types to Mom, it’s probably the only time you’ll ever hear a near curse word from a Scottish Presbyterian school teacher.
I’m interested to know if the pregnant woman in pink at lower left in that photo had her baby at the tent camp or if she went to a modern medical facility.

Well I did- involved a F-4 Phantom and 4 bottle rockets; it flew and then exploded, good times.
Amen to your comments dmorris. I grew up in the ‘sticks’ where chores with horses in the winter were the norm. Haying involved spending a good portion of my summer holidays back on a provincial hay lease. I’m glad I grew up that way but cannot bring myself to understand what these city slickers are looking for, demonstrating a power plant, before going back to their a/c apartments in their SUV’s.
