While I had very little use for him as an objective and competent journalist I do wish sympathies and condolences to his family and friends. Too young to die.
Rest in Peace, Jim. Condolences to his family.
In my e-mail exchanges with him, I never once doubted he believed what he wrote…
I am sure he will be missed by his family.
Condolences to his family and friends.
One less commie mouthpiece… Hooray! Consoling your enimies family will not turn them into friends…
My deepest sympathies extended to his family.
While I have little respect for his political viewpoints, I stand in staunch support for his right to have voiced his opinion.
Again, my heart goes out to those who grieve.
I hate to be obtuse here but, just who is Jim Travers?
Next to Haroon Sidiqqui, he was one of my least favourite journalists from the Toronto Star. Hard to believe that he actually believed the stuff he wrote. God speed, Jim.
Travers was one of Steven Harpers libsuk media hemmoroids. In Jims world Nothing Harper did was correct or passed the Toronto leftie medias judgement. He was so important, he has yet to be mentioned on National Newswatch. They are so wrapped up in their we hate Harper mindset, they have yet to see, Jim croaked. Over at Peeairs site, he has taken his nose out of Iggulas orifice long enough to at least acjnowledge Jims passing. Gods of Canada news media, please speed Sun News launch.
Very sad to hear.
Comfort to his family.
Guys, guys, if you can’t think of anything nice to say, say nothing.
This is me saying nothing.
Jim Travers worked for the Toronto Star, he made frequent appearances on Don Newman’s show and the old Mike Duffy Show. He was a gentleman. I frequently disagreed with him and him with me. HOWEVER, he Always answered my e-mails. His articles in the Star helped to dethrone the Liberals (Adscam Affair) and consequently Paul Martin.
Rest In Peace Jim, you will be missed.
Phantom; I said nothing bad about the man, it is sad he has passed, but he was a harsh critic of Harper. That is true. The Starwipe has tried to get rid of Harpers govt. for 5 years with Travers leading the charge. That is true, just observing. I reserve compassion for abused children and women. Liberal media hacks, waste their ink protecting the rights of the abusers of said women and children, you know that.
His articles in the Star helped to dethrone the Liberals (Adscam Affair) and consequently Paul Martin.”
guess what del, around here unless you are totally lock step with the right wing view resembling a stalinist era sycophant, nothing you ever put forth against lieberals washes you of the ‘sin’ of doing the same thing with conservatists.
when will the first ‘Jim Travers not dead enough’ show up?
Thanks MM, I really didn’t know who he was.
I never read the Red Star so I guess that’s why I was ignorant of his existence.
Condolences to his family.
Politically, I had little use for his articles. Personally, I am very sorry to hear of his death. All the very best to his family and friends during this very difficult time.
Condolences to his family.
Very sad day in Liberal Land.
Beagle you do know that Everybody dies right?
His writing was syncophantic Liberal Party of Canada Chretien biased, for the most part. However he hated Paul Martin it seemed. I didn’t think he was any great journalist and could predict the tone of his editorials every time.
Do I take any pleasure in his death? No. However, people die every day, I have no feelings on this than I would have in regard to any other stranger’s death. Acting elsewise is patronizing.
I have to agree with Phantom
This is me saying nothing as well, except I’m pretty sure it won’t take the Star long to fill the void.Is your CV up to date beagle?
I used to switch the channel whenever he was speaking because I knew instinctively that I wouldn’t like or agree with what he was going to say.
His death though is a great shock and I’m truly saddened for his family and friends.
beagle, you do know that Stalin was a man of the left, yes?

that’s the funny thing about sycophantry; it matters not a hoot where you are on the spectrum it all lOOks the same.
something *I’ve* never been accused of.
Sad to hear of Jim’s passing. Condolences to his wife and family.
Agree with Phantom. Keep it classy, please.
Beagle are you of the opinion that just because you follow the natural progression of life and death you are some how cleansed of all your faults? That any consequences to others from your legacy be they words or deeds are mystically and justifiably verboten as topic of discussion just because your worm meat now?
Condolences to his family.
Jim Travers passing was/is a notable happening and I salute Kate for her post.
aww c’mon Kate, tell us what you’d REALLY like to post!

All men must die. This one was no better or worse than many as far as I know. If you only like people you agree with all the time I can only assume you and your mirror are best friends. I didn’t agree with Jim Travers. 61 is too young to die
Though Jim Travers’s writing was extremely irritating, I am very sorry to hear this news. Sixty-two is young to die.
RIP, Mr. Travers, and condolences to his family and friends.
Bartinsky and Phantom; you are both accurate. Cheers;
Someone noted above that Traverse always returned emails. He did with me as well. Politically I do not agree anything he wrote, or how he spun/omitted the facts (hence the emails).
I also agree that he was way too young, and family and freinds will be heartbroken. Condolences to them.
However, I will have a hard time stomaching the upcomming cannonization of the man by the Canadian MSM as the greatest, most truthful, unbiased, clear eyed, non partisan journalist in the land.
And anyone who dares disgree will be called the worst sorts of names.

I was referring to the Tommy douglas not dead enough posts. I in no way find them offensive. I find Tommy and his arrogance EXTREMELY Offensive.
As for Mr. Travers? From what I know You are correct he was no better and no worse then most who drew breath. His passing effects me not but I am sure his family is genuinely grieved and will miss him.
Normally I would say yes, it is bad Karma to speak ill of the dead, but when Tommy Douglas supporters continue to dig up his bones and hold him up for hagiolatry, does that not make it fair game to comment on some of T.C.’s core beliefs.
I enjoy reading articles by people I disagree with. There are exceptions or course – the truly idiotic, the clinically insane and the perpetually outraged with no sense of humor. Travers’s writing was in none of those categories. He was a tolerable progressive/socialist/statist journalist and those are becoming increasingly rare in Canada.
‘Not sure I get this, but I just Googled Jim Travers and clicked on “Images.” Astonishingly, there seem to be no photos of Jim Travers but two of Kate! ??????
Though I didn’t much agree with what he said, he was always considerate to respond to emails.
In those emails the tone, though he disagreed, was respectful.
You could debate him.
The left is poorer for his passing.
My condolences to his family.
Mississauga Matt: that was seriously funny.
A week or so ago, Bob Rae expressed his concern for the danger that our country is in. Today he
wept in the House over Jim Traver’s death.
Hey! Show of hands; How many of you “crocodile tear types” mourned for Baghdad Bob or would have sent your kind loving wishes to Goebbel’s survivors after he passed?
You twatwaffels need to understand that a propagandist is a propagandist is a propagandist… Regardless of whether he was polite in returning your e-mail or not, he was hellbent on slowly stripping you of all your freedoms in order to implement the socialist utopia and he was using the mainstream media to do it. For that you need to be angry…and glad that he’s gone…

Bob Rae may have wept over Jim Travers’s death because Mr. Travers was a serious cheerleader for the LPC. It could also be that he and Mr. Travers were good friends. Or, it could be both.
Couldn’t stand Travers, but he was a loyal Liberal party agent who worked tirelessly for the Trudeauvian regime and I’m sure he will be missed by the extreme left. RIP.

I suspect his liver finally failed him.
