Holy smokes – we’ll find out this week. So how, exactly, will the journalists who write the headlines “find out”?

So, Susan Delacourt and her fellow media henchmen have made the controversy over Bev Oda “a big deal” for the past two weeks, and yet she’s unsure whether or not it actually is a big deal.
I guess if she and her fellow henchmen ensure that Bev Oda makes the headlines “over the parliamentary break,” then Bev Oda’s “gone.”
‘Seems to be, Susan, that you’re hoping this controversy is a big deal, though it’s hard to know, seeing as your crystal ball’s cracked. But, what the heck, trying to ruin the career of a CPC Cabinet Minister, based on being unsure that what she’s done is “a big deal,” is just another day’s work in the Canadian Lamestream Media.

What irritates me is how the press is focusing on an issue of a few million, when hundreds of millions are getting spent by CIDA on Haiti and no one’s paying attention.

About a month ago the media were saying there are not enough women in politics. I asked the question if they noticed how Conservative women were treated by their news outlet.

I would guess that in the end, this story will not hurt CPC popularity. I noticed the Sat. Feb. 19 National Post had reduced the “legal document” to “memo.”
A memo is a simple note–nothing more. And that’s how and where the story should have ended.

My estimate of Stephen Harper just went up 12 points. He evidently gives these MSM weenies all the consideration they merit: zero.
Noticed the referrences to the Liberal “Paper Bag Scandal” and a fact that the MSM or most Canadians did not pick up on is that: the Chretien Liberals awarded contracts to Liberal friendly companies on the understanding that these companies would ‘donate’ funds back to the Federal Liberal Party. These ‘donations’ or ‘laundered money’ allowed the Liberals to retain power. As such the Liberals in reality were governing illegaly, yet no-one has addressed this issue. When the Liberals assert that they balanced the budget under Chretien and Martin they omit the fact that they did it by ‘stealing’ from working Canadians.

In this article the Star took the liberty of writing a complete distortion of the truth and fact – in other words a lie when they wrote —
“The Issue: International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda admitted in Parliament on Monday that she scrawled the word ‘not’ into her department’s recommendation to fund church-backed charity KAIROS, reversing the decision of top officials. Having previously denied knowing who wrote it, Oda was caught in a lie. Opposition MPs and editorial boards both called for her to quit or be fired.”
This is a moment that The Star can not be proud of, that their paper stooped so low to twist ,distort facts and the truth to discredit or destroy an innocent person.
The Star writer wrote “Bev Oda admitted in Parliament on Monday that she scrawled the word “not” into her department’s recommendation”
Nothing could be further from the truth and there is nothing in Ms. Oda’s statement that could be construed to come to that conclusion. I have enclosed Oda’s statement in Parliament on the Monday Feb 15 from Hansard, uncut and unedited, and there is no admission on her part that she wrote the word “not” in the document.
Ms. Oda is owed an apology, as well as all the readers and all Canadians given that there was a concerted attack on her character at the time.

“Mr. Speaker, I would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight regarding the funding application for KAIROS. I wish to clearly inform the House of the matter and clear up any misunderstandings that exist.
“The CIDA officials did forward a document in which they sought approval of the recommendation for funding of the KAIROS proposal, but ultimately the decision to not provide funding was mine, as Minister of International Cooperation.
“As you know, Mr. Speaker, departments do make recommendations to ministers and ministers, in carrying out their responsibilities, can agree with those recommendations or, as is the case with this issue, they can disagree. In this case, the process in place requires the department to make recommendations, not to make the decision.
“There was no decision taken by the department to provide funding. It was only a recommendation. It was my decision to disagree with the recommendation based on discussions with advisers. I was fully aware that my decision was not aligned with the recommendation of the department.
“In the matter before you, Mr. Speaker, the opposition has asked you to rule on whether I intentionally or knowingly misled the House by saying it was a department decision.
“At no time have I stated that the decision for funding was that of the department. I have repeatedly and clearly stated in response to questions in the House and at committee that the funding decision was mine. The ‘not’ was inserted at my direction.
“Given the way the document was formatted, allowing only for concurrence, this was the only way to reflect my decision. If some were led to conclude that my language implied that the department and I were of one mind on this application, then I apologize.
“I would, Mr. Speaker, indicate to you that the way in which this case has been handled, including by myself, has been unfortunate.
“In conclusion, let me be clear. In the memo the department did make a recommendation to me, as the minister for funding. My decision, as the minister, did not concur with the recommendation of the department. My instructions were to indicate on the document my decision not to provide funding.
“I have consistently taken responsibility for that decision. I have consistently informed the House of the government’s aid and effectiveness agenda, stating that our government’s policy is to achieve impact, making a sustainable difference in the lives of those it is intended to help. In no way have I intentionally or knowingly misled the House or the committee.”
I would figure that the liberals and al the rest would be happy at this denial as it would go to funding a christian program and we can’t have that and we didn’t and we are still hung out to dry lol.
my take on it is that the liberals should not be squacking so much as they are the ones who insist on defunding anything that is christian.

Should I have been watching the CBC?
Most voters have no idea what the BevOda issue is about. And once someone explains it to them, most will be on Harper’s side. I think this bodes very badly for the Liberals during an election.
Race and gender are factors, too: the Liberals appear to be beating up on a nice older immigrant lady (I know I know, she’s Canadian born). But many, many Asian immigrants who used to vote Liberal will be angered by the disrespect.
The Phantom at February 22, 2011 10:29 AM, no problem. The only reason I know about Ms. Oda’s origin is because I once compiled a list of Conservative “firsts” for my own edification and to help me counter sundry accusations about purported anti-immigrant feelings among Conservatives.
The one and only “big deal” was the attempt at manufactured outrage by the Liberals and their media cheerleaders. Unlike the same ploy used by radical Muslims which automatically translate into mindless mobs in the streets, we had no such thing. In fact most people chose not to take the bait.
I do not know if she will bother, but I do hope that Minister Oda sues for libel, for that is exactly what it was: lies and more lies.
This ‘issue’ is picayune, in the overall scheme of things. The Canadian press is desperate.

First let me take exception to the comment “She said she didn’t know how the memo had come to be altered”
That is far from the truth and fair because as you well know the question of her at committee was who put in the “not” and not how.
She answered ” I don’t know” and she was being truthful because she didn’t know which staffer and the name had put in the “Not” because Oda was not physically present when it was done although she always maintained it was done on her instructions.
Secondly the claim “she changed her tune a week later” when she gave her statement in the House is blatantly false as well, as I have proven in an earlier post where her statement recorded in Hansard given in the House exposed the Star for their total misrepresentation of the truth of what she said in the House.

Bev Oda… Isn’t she the minister that Cjunk thought should be hanged, drawn, quartered and then peed on? That is until PM Harper had a huggy kissy with Jack o Layton which instantly made PM Harper a good guy and Bev Oda a forgotten name? Yeah the MSM are knitwits but some of the Blogging Tories are in that same camp.
You know this whole Bev Oda thing ranks up there with itch arm pits for worry.
She got caught out because she fibbed or just plain forgot than tried to get out of it like we all do. This is a big deal in Politicians? Where have the press been, in a cave with the Tali-ban? Yet these same folks thought reporting on paper bags full of tax money given out by Liberals, where not newsworthy enough to tell Canadians.

What is the problem some people have the way the recommendation was rejected.
President of CIDA Margaret Biggs, who signed the Kairos document, testified before the parliamentary committee in December, Oda did nothing wrong and used her ministerial discretion and judgment to deny approval of the funding.
“I think as the minister said, the agency did recommend the project to the minister. She has indicated that. But it was her decision, after due consideration, to not accept the department’s advice. This is quite normal, and I certainly was aware of her decision. The inclusion of the word “not” is just a simple reflection of what her decision was, and she has been clear. So that’s quite normal,” she told the foreign affairs committee.”
So Oda instructed her staff that she was not approving the recommendation and they inserted the word “not” before the word recommend. As Ms. Biggs president of CIDA told the committee they got the message and understood it – it was sent to the minister for approval or non approval – she didn’t approve it obviously when “not recommend” was on the paper . That was the minister doing her job -she had every right to refuse approval as Biggs testified so what is the problem.
To claim forgery or defacing of a document is absurd and ridiculous – that doesn’t wash with anyone who has an IQ higher than their shoe size.
I think what unhinged, Liberal party activist Delacrap means is… “This is the week that we find out whether our co-ordinated, “Liberal”, media, smear job against Minister Oda has had the desired effect”. Run an organized, well co-ordinated witch hunt, smear job against a woman Cabinet Minister, then follow it up by commissioning the usual suspects in the polling world to see if it succeeded in bringing the Conservative numbers down. The election that the coalition are about to force will be the ugliest, down in the gutter election Canadians will have ever witnessed, with the “Liberal” media at the front of the pack tar and feathering and crucifying anyone who stands in the way of the Liberal/Separatist coalition “getting back to power”.
I distinctly remembered something on CTV at the start of the misfortunes of Ms Oda. I do not really pay much attention to it, but my spouse does.
A figure to the left of Lloyd Robertson was eagerly feeding him with the news of these troubles. Now I do not make an error here. The voice ended with ramifications to Ms Oda. He ended with the opine she “could go to jail”.
