Based on the most current data it appears that 2010 is going to show the largest drop in global sea level ever recorded in the modern era. Since many followers of global warming believe that the rate of sea level rise is increasing, a significant drop in the global sea level highlights serious flaws in the IPCC projections. The oceans are truly the best indicator of climate. The oceans drive the world’s weather patterns. A drop in the ocean levels in a year that is being cited as proof that the global warming has arrived shows that there is still much to learned. If the ocean levels dropped in 2010, then there is something very wrong with the IPCC projections.
I’m sure they’ll find a way to correct that.

I love looking at Google maps and seeing how much land there is on continental shelfs and how many of the current “islands” are connected to the continents.
The last time those areas were above water was during the Ice Age. Ironically, some land areas were lower from the weight of mile-high ice on top of it.
We need to build ten new nuclear reactors a year for ten years to meet our domestic energy needs. That will prepare us for whatever climate change is coming.
This is the day the level of the oceans start to fall.
— Obama, on the day he won the nomination
I’m sure Hanson, Gavin, Suzuki, Gore et al have already started to water board the data to make it tell the “truth”
They have 1500 employees and an unfunded pension liability of $252 million.
There was a time when this would worry local govt.
The basic conclusion from distilling this study of siting and record adjustment is that the “observed warming” of the 20th century is largely UHI effect, and to a lesser extent just plain fudging of the data.
In principle it’s like a neighbour kid who shot arrows at the barn door and then painted the bulleyes about them.
woooooooooohoooooooooooooo!
WE DID IT!
I can’t help but think that we all owe BC a debt of gratitude for saving Mother Earth with their Carbon Tax. Way to go guys.
That said, I fear that had the Liberals gotten their Green Shaft up our Arses, we likely would have overcompensated and sucked the oceans dry.
When do we get to have the Global Warming Is Over party?
“The worrying drop in sea level is yet another indication of the unpredictable nature of climate change, said Dr. Hans Inyurwalat, head of the Inter-inter-inter group at the heart of the Co-ordinated Response Interactive Matrix near the centre of the United Nations Look Like We’re Doing Something Useful Panel of Experts who are closely associated with the …”
or something like that
Indiana Homez asked
When do we get to have the Global Warming Is Over party?
Sorry, too cold out, maybe April 22nd?
Re-temperature. There’s too much information coming in from all these stations for any software program to handle it all. That’s why they have to average/round the data to enter into the final calculation. This is where they have the opportunity to influence the outcome. It doesn’t even have to be intentional fudging. Sometimes you can influence a result simply by having a pre-conceived notion of what the result should be.
Sea levels are a different matter from temperatures. All it takes is a mark on a rock to monitor water level. I’ve been visiting the same beach for 50 years, and the high water mark hasn’t changed at all. None the less, there are plenty of people, who visit that same beach, who firmly believe sea levels are rising rapidly. I’m sure they don’t realize it’s the same sea as the one surrounding the Marshall Islands.
Just how reliable are any government statistics? Temperatures are easy to adjust
(and when I look at Environment Canada data for days which I do remember, they don’t agree).
Inflation rate? Have you heard of the “hedonism factor”?
The unemployment rate is “seasonally adjusted” (more or less an ARMA process with periodicity built in, plenty of opportunity for hanky-panky).
Sea levels are the hardest to fake, because a change of even a few inches would be observable and indeed consequential.
But would the Toronto voter be able to appreciate any of these?
But…but…the President Mohammed Nasheed of the Maldives says the oceans are rising…that is why the UN wants us to send money to stop this.
A couple of years ago Nils-Axel Morner, Head of Paleogeophysics & Geodynamics Stockholm Univ Sweden, the number one expert in the world on sea levels, says the oceans are not rising, but there will always be constant slight fluctuations. He said this is just a scare tactic to raise money.
I wonder if Suzuki has sea level recorders on all his ocean front properties?
The CBC took much of it’s directive to push climate alarmism from Dave.
The CBC has been/is very good to Dave $uzuki.
[ CBC’s commitment to openness and transparency met with a shredding machine or recycling bin in late November.] Brian Lilley
DOTS DOTS DOTS ?
As a further note, i have lived on waterfront property on the Pacific for 20 years, and there has been no noticeable change in sea level. However with all our Liberal carbon taxes i expect the levels to start dropping drastically!
Another quote from the page — the oceans are clearly drying up —
// Even more interesting is the fact that from 1992-2005 there was an increase each year. 2006 was the first year to show a drop in the global sea level. 2010 will be the 2nd year to show a decrease in sea level. That is correct, 2 of the past 5 years are going to show a decrease in sea level. 2010 could likely show a significant drop global sea level. By significant I mean it is possible that it will likely drop between 2-3 mm from 2009. Since the data has not been updated since August it is difficult to guess more precisely //
Perhaps this is an opportunity to learn something —
Short term and periodic changes
There are many factors which can produce short-term (a few minutes to 18.6 years) changes in sea level.
Oh no! The seas are falling! The seas are falling!
lyle bert, the seas are falling because the sky is falling…or something like that.

“D’Aleo on NOAA and NASA
Posted on January 18, 2011 by Anthony Watts
By Joe D’Aleo, CCM, AMS Fellow
The pressure has been mounting. The public doubt about global warming has been increasing in the past year given Climategate, and how promises of warm snowless winters failed. After cold and snowy winters in 2007/08 and 2008/09, the winter of 2009/10 was the coldest ever in parts of the southeast, and in parts of Siberia and the coldest since 1977/78 or 1962/63 in many parts of the United States, Europe and Asia. This past December was the second coldest in the entire Central England Temperature record extending back to 1659.
It was the coldest ever December in diverse locations like Ireland, Sweden, and Florida. Reluctantly, alarmists changed their tune and the promise of warm and snowless winters as recent as 4 years ago morphed into global warming means cold and snowy winters.

NASA/NOAA homogenization process has been shown to significantly alter the trends in many stations where the siting and rural nature suggest the data is reliable. In fact, adjustments account for virtually all the trend in the data. Unadjusted data for the best sites/rural shows cyclical multi-decadal variations but no net long term trend as former NASA scientist Dr. Ed Long showed here (PDF). He showed however that after adjustment, the rural data trend was made consistent with the urban data set with an artificial warming introduced.

I know. I know! Ask me.
The sea level did not fall, the land level rose.
Any more questions?
foobert: not as odd as it sounds. search on “isostasy” or “isostatic rebound”.
As a salt water sailor, I too have noticed the 2mm drop in sea level…not! Drew a line on the hull of my boat where the water was in the spring and this fall it was at the same level.
Peer reviewed by some Harbour Seal who thought I was crazy.
Well I know we are running out of fresh water but does this mean we are running out of salt water too? OH Dear, Whatever shall we do!?!?
Hey I have a wonderful idea. How about we get these alarmists a real job. Something that would suit their limited mental capacity. I wonder if any local farmers could use some help cleaning out the manure pits?
More on the AGWhores.

“Cuccinelli-Mann probe takes a bizarre twist
Posted on January 18, 2011 by Anthony Watts
Wow. In the middle of the battle, the warmists erroneously send up a flare from their position, drawing undue attention to the target. I rather expected a moribund outcome from this investigation, maybe a couple of embarrassing quotes, maybe a hotheaded Santeresque comment by Dr. Michael Mann about Dr. Pat Michaels, but that was about it.
Now, with them trying to retroactively change the law as a way to head off the investigation, it makes me wonder if maybe there’s really something profound there in those communications after all. Bad move fellas, you just made the Q Score for this story triple.

hide the decline…hide the decline:-)))
If indeed the oceans are falling I know where all the water has gone. Its sitting on my front lawn in the form of snow!!!!
Texas Canuck, that is kind of like marking a good fishing spot with an “X”.
Up is down; down is up…
Looking forward to the massaged sea level pronouncement.
But I’ll wait for the definitive, peer reviewed East Anglia edition!
Beer and popcorn locked and loaded.Oh my god ,is that no longer politically correct?
