  2. In all of the feminist rhetorical claptrap in those links there is only one statement that holds true. Assange is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty. Of all those accused, only some are brought to trial. Of all those brought to trial, only some are convicted. This legal accusation has nothing to do with the merits or lack thereof of what he and Wikileaks have done.

  5. Oh, please. Every credible report I’ve read said that Assange had consensual sex with both women. One accused of him of “sex crime” because his condom broke in the act; the other, because he refused to get an STD test after she compared notes with the former. This is as far from rape as saying “F*** the police” is from treason.
    And what short memories we have here. It was Wikileaks that first broke the definitive news about Scientology and Xenu. It was Wikileaks that leaked all the damaging email from the Climate Research Unit (facts which were greeted here with glee, IIRC.) But now that some people’s personal oxen are apparently being gored by the truth, there are those who here who wish him dead?!
    I suspect any and all sources of information – the government, business, the MSM, schools, the Intratubes – all due to constant confirmation that we are being lied to often, repeatedly, and brazenly. I don’t believe everything I’ve read from, or about, Wikileaks either, but the massive amount of discomfiture they’ve engendered makes me suspect that much of it is true.
    Don’t like the message? Shoot the messenger. Tried and true method of the corrupt and powerful.

    All the leakage is only of concern to some of the higher ups and their minions in various circles. Those with integrity will remain unharmed.
    The rest are being exposed for whatever it is that they are …. but who really cares? We already know most governments and bureaucrats are corrupt.
    Oh … you say some people may die over some of the leakage? People die all the time for almost no reason at all. Like trying to civilize the uncivilized in Afghanistan for example. Or how about allowing menacing Muslims in the western world in large numbers.
    In an overpopulated world like we have now … life is cheap and getting cheaper by the day.
    It is the spotted owl that is endangered, not the ant.

    It’s quite possible that Assange is completely innocent of the rape charge and that these 2 women are just bitter that he didn’t come back with a marriage proposal. But since “Ezra” quoted the police reports in his “protest”, I’m sure you can provide a link to the facts of the matter. Like maybe an eyewitness account. Assange’s side of the rape story is hardly credible.

  18. It doesnt matter what your personal definition of rape is in this case. The laws of Sweden apply. And one of the accusers is well versed in those laws. May have wrote the book, so to speak.
    The enjoyable part of the story is watching Wolf throw other women under the bus in service of another ideology, which is deemed more important.
    So the Swedish laws, which in another context Wolf in all liklihood would have defended to the hilt or even advocated for, become a nuisance and disposable when broken by a fellow traveller.
    I think the laws are ridiculous. Assange isnt even the criminal in the Wikileaks case, just an anarchist creep. But revealing the hypocrisy of the left is, well, priceless.

  19. This whole media storm around Assange reminds me of the whole O.J. Simpson circus in a way. I recall it very distinctly because I was a single payer activist. The week of his arrest (1993) was the same week health care reform (after being headline news for a year) died a quiet death in Congress. So what is the corporate media trying to conceal by beating Assange’s sex life to death? Most of the information in the recent cables release is already widely available on the Internet. At the same time I find it surprising to find absolutely nothing about the “strategic” reasons the US is at war in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Nothing about the Pentagon agenda to foster the secession of oil and mineral rich Balochistan from Pakistan as a US client state – just like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and other former Soviet republics. Nothing about CIA support for the Baloch separatist movement. Nothing about the CIA training young Baloch separatists in bomb making and other terrorist activities to disrupt operations at the Chinese-built Gwadar Port (intended to transport Iranian oil and natural gas via Pakistan to China.     As a liberal, you must always stay on top of the victim hierarchy of the day. “Who’s the new gay?” so to speak.
    So, ugly people like Mallick have absolutely no compunction whatsoever about throwing a possible rape victim under the bus, so long as throwing that person under the bus serves another purpose higher up in the hierarchy. In this case, that purpose is strident anti-war, anti-Americanism.

    Nobody is questioning the veracity of the case, one way or the other, that I can see here. Some here have actually, like you, questioned the credibility of the accusers. I’m not unsympathetic to these points of view. That’s not the point. The point is that the professional left will not hesitate to viciously attack a possible victim of rape, if the accused is one who must be protected in the name of The Cause (whatever that may be).

    I don’t agree with everything you post here, KevinB, but find you generally post coherently, cogently, and more or lessfactually, at least as you see it. However, as others have already pointed out, the urban myth that Wikileaks broke the Climategate story has long since been debunked, and there’s no kind of possible wriggle room to question the debunking. I’m surprised to see you argue it here.

    Probably the most hilarious line I’ve ever seen on the internet was the “rape is a crime of capitalism”. I guess members of the Red Army in 1945 who invaded Germany were all closet capitalists.
    Some of the most idiotic changes to the legal system have involved what constitutes rape and Ezra has just muddied the waters. In discussions with a friend regarding our university days, he made the comment that if we were to do now what we did 35 years ago, we could be charged with “date rape”. It was common knowledge back then that alcohol was quite effective as a panty remover and when both parties are drunk it’s difficult to sort out who “raped” whom.
    I think I’ve got it figured out now: if you’re a prominent liberal politician or of leftist political pursuasion, then rough involuntary sex is just a normal manifestation of progressive ideology. OTOH, if a man is not a member of the “progressive” movement, then looking at a woman the wrong way is clear evidence of rape. Now I’d just like a legal opinion on whether passing oneself off as a leftist to initiate involuntary sex with a leftist woman would be considered rape?

  36. All these “rape-is-a-crime-of-capitalism” dupes have to do is read Aayan Hirsi Ali’s book, Infidel or Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns (just two of countless examples) to have their myths about capitalism and rape debunked.
    Of course, these ideological thugs, with official feminists (often unmarried, no children, man-hating lesbians) topping the list, have no interest in reality. They’re experts in left-lib, progressive (sic) spin where the raping of women is just fine if it’s perpetrated by certain men (like Assange and Bill Clinton who agree with them on abortion and other feminist litmus tests) upon certain women (i.e., those who don’t toe their ideological line).
    Official feminists are mainly interested in feeding at the government-funded trough and feathering their own nests. They have next to no interest in helping women, especially if they’re married with kids. “Helping women” is the beard behind which these avaricious charlatans hide in order to stash a cache of government millions.
    Here in Canada, the Librano$ and Dipper$ have been their pimps and sugar daddies.
