  1. Heh my Mazda 323 GT would “bitchslap” that golf cart.
And be long gone when the backup shows up.
    dwright

  2. How about Smart Cars for the Police officers, a trailer for their equipment then tow cables, handcuffs and Rollerblades for the arrested criminals?
It would be good for a laugh if nothing else.

  3. The life cycle of green vehicles is short, the cost high. If you were to build a vehicle with reasonable gas mileage but with a long life cycle the environment would be much farther ahead. I drive a vehicle with nearly 180000 miles on the clock, weighs over 4000 lbs., gets 25-27 miles to the gallon (US),vaults over the emmissions bar, is 16 years old and still has lots of life left in it. We are now seeing these ‘green’ vehicles heading to the recycler because they are all used up…spent…finished….some less than 5 years old.

  4. The only “green” in this police story is the mold growing on the brain of the administration. Anything that has been inactive for any length of time attracts this green blight.

  5. Never trust the top brass to make decisions about the guys/gals in the trenches.
I worked for the feds in another life where the left hand never knew what the right hand was doing — and didn’t care to. They were always making decisions without talking to us front-line folks, then patting themselves on the back for a job well-done (of course, having made ours much harder). That’s one of the reasons I got out: too little accountability.

  6. batb been there. I had a project that no one wanted. It got done. Ottawa was very pleased. It took them a year and a half to figure out I threw their plan in the garbage and just did it. My defense was, does it work?

  7. batb, I’m with you all the way on this one.
I too was one of those in a former life. Still suffering the ill effects of it. Working in an alternate universe is unhealthy.

  8. again, bosses and authorities REFUSING to play devil’s advocate with their decisions. much like politishuns of ALL persuasion.
and the old refrain is still ‘they ALL do it’.

  9. And it is all being done on borrowed money! Think of what you would tell your kids, or what you would think of anyone who was living the high life, borrowing endlessly on charge cards to have any feel good thing they wanted. Then throw in the cult aspect, your kids have joined the Moonies/ Hare Krishnas, and are sending all their money to the leaders. You just might have something to say. But here we have governments gone mad, borrowing endlessly and sending and spending it all at the alter of the SCAM, globall warming/climate change yadayada. This is the progressive leftie mo, to turn truth to lies and lies to truth and soon jail anyone who doesn’t conform, watch the US devolve down the Chavez trail under this administration.

  10. None of the new, goofy “green” stuff has to work. It only has to make our yuppy overlords feel even more snooty and superior, if that is even possible.

  11. Speedy: I would have put the duffel in sideways but then again I’m not union.
Not too speedy there Speedy. Notice the TWO duffel bags as well as other items in the trunk wouldn’t work either. Plus you couldn’t lift one over the other without emptying the whole trunk.

  12. Does anyone doubt that your average follower / member of ENGOs would not support the enviro-nazi stormtroopers as depicted in that commercial? The psychopaths behind that commercial betray the same pathos as the British commercials featuring exploding (AGW-skeptic) kids. The German autoworkers who have historically been one of Greenpeace’s largest funding sources, no doubt have had some influence here. Decades of mass hysteria is obviously bearing fruit as no successful auto manufacturer would risk the well deserved backlash (ideally a boycott) of such advertising without confidence in the intellectual sloth of it’s market. They are still winning!

  13. Maybe Kathy Shaidle and her shorty shotgun can get a job with the Aussie police force.
The space saver to serve and protect! 😉

  14. I recall a few years back the OPP types whinning about how cramped their new CROWN VICs were…..
I stand 6′ and find normal S10/Ranger cabs cramped without the cab&1/2 option.
Most days I suspect these vehicles are designed for pygmies.
Time for the auto-makers to reproduce ’80’s sedans for Police applications.
Maybe this is why suburbans are so ubiquitous with US feds.

  15. Once again, good idea but bad execution. If you can go green with your new vehicles then why not do it? But you need to make sure the new vehicles can do all the things they need to do.
It’s not like the private sector never screws up decisions like this, but this is a pretty bad one.

  17. The Police commissions jaws are slobbering at the new revenue stream.
The greening of the Police means more green in their pockets.
    JMO

  18. The govt OWNs the automakers now. Of COURSE they want you to buy short lived cars so they can make you buy another sooner. Fuel milage is just the gimmick.

  19. This was one of the most asinine totalitarian POS that I’ve ever seen. I’d like to say that I’m boycotting Audi, but I’d never buy one of their vehicles as my transportation tastes run to SUV’s and other vehicles capable of letting me get to where I’m going in comfort rather than being squished into a sardine can on wheels.
It’s hilarious when one does the lifetime energy cost of a “green” hybrid vehicle compared to a Hummer. I haven’t checked the numbers myself but I recall seeing an article that found the total CO2 emissions in making/driving a Prius for its lifetime were larger than those of a Hummer. I’m sure that one would find similar things when one compares wind power to coal power but this game seems to be all about image, not unromantic math which the greenies have no ability to do.
I was under the impression that one of the things a police vehicle should be able to do was engage in pursuit of another vehicle fleeing the scene of a crime. A hybrid vehicle is the last thing one wants for this purpose as they are abysmal in terms of their top speed capability. For giving out parking tickets, I’m sure hybrids would be perfectly adequate. Police attempting to pursue the perpetrators of a bank robbery in a dumb car might be a good scene in a Naked Gun movie but in real life it’s just more evidence that the inmates have taken over the asylum.
