Y2Kyoto: From Newport, Wales to New South Wales

The planet has a shiver.

Others contend we are witnessing a mutation of the Gore Effect, and that it may now be capable of transferring from its gigantic environmentalist host pod to infect human carriers. “If you look at the areas suffering the worst outbreaks, they all feature individuals who have suffered prolonged exposure to Al Gore,” says Pandy. “Why, Jon Bon Jovi and Oprah were in Australia only last week. Now the place is freezing – almost as though Al Gore had been here in person.”

Yes, Australia.

Snow fell in Australia on Monday, as the usual hot and summery December weather was replaced in parts by icy gusts sweeping up from the Southern Ocean, giving the country a taste of a white Christmas.

  1. Here I sit, chequebook in hand, ready to “fight” global warming. Problem is, nobody will tell me what figure to write on that cheque to solve the problem.

  2. The only people who aren’t going to suffer from the effects of Global Cooling are those with a thick insulating girdle of fat – people like Al Gore, Michael Moore, and Oprah.
    And they know it.

  3. Oh come on people. Give old Al a break. He just had his terminology wrong. It’s supposed to be climate change, don’t ya know.
Seriously,in my 60 plus years on the earth, the only month that I haven’t seen snow falling is July, and the way things are going, 2011 might be the year.

  4. Louise, you haven’t been in Calgary in July have you? Then you would have seen snow in July.
You might want to check out the Calgary Stampede the first week of August while your at it. The greatest show on earth! Usually a terrible thunder storm or two, mixed with hail, just to add some salt to the wounds. That is why you have to wear a cowboy hat, keep your noggin’ from taking a pummeling!!!
Has Big Al been hanging out there too!?

  5. Maybe it’s not Al this time. The Aussie’s were tempting fate by awarding Jean Charest a prestigious green award in Cancun, “The Jean Charest urban forest, on the outskirts of Adelaide, is to highlight the premier’s commitment to fighting climate change” (CTV News, Dec 8. 2010). Perhaps all green environmental warrior-politicians are now carriers of the Gore Effect.

  6. Glacierman. Nope. I haven’t. My forth grandchild should be about four months old in July and mommy and daddy live in Calgary, so maybe this year, although I’d really rather not have snow while I’m there.

  7. We have already funded the Green Communist Program to the tune of 9B Tax Dollars. In the Liberal Trusts set up beyond Parliaments control and even the Auditor General cannot look at how the 9B in Tax Dollars is spent. http://www.primetimecrime.com/Recent/Investigative/20050228foundations.htm You can also look at how your property tax dollars are spent by Municipal Governments on Foreign Aid programs and Green Commie Programs at http://www.fcm.ca click on Green Municipal Fund and International Tabs..

  8. Save your money shaken, the climate carpetbaggers have jumped the shark, Fat Al has his ill gotten gains along with the detestables like Suzuki puchari Strong etc. The sad part is the money is gone, and governments continue to fund this SCAM. Here in Alberta we continue to chase after carbon sequestration schemes and don`t think for a minute that the same scam artists that sucked 7 plus billion out of kleptocrats and polititians in Europe, are not at work right here. This SCAM, and all the environMENTAL lunacy has ruined more jobs and families livelyhoods in more countries than we will ever know. Mines denied permits, drilling stopped, water denied to irrigation over a false fish, lumber mills shuttered over a phoney owl. Lets start sueing these sorry Greenpeace and Sierras for lost revenue.

  9. but but but
CBCpravda reported a month ago that 2010 was the warmest year in recorded history.
news with 91% of the data not represented. no December data whatsoever.

  10. “Louise, you haven’t been in Calgary in July have you? Then you would have seen snow in July.”
    glacierman
I’ve seen snow in Calgary in July.
First week of July 1972 we had nearly 6 inches.

  11. Most awesome quote ever re climate:
“If… only there were some natural mechanism for explaining the warming and cooling of the earth.
It would have to be unreasonably large, however — on the scale of our own sun.”
    Stolen from AoSHQ, source unknown.

  12. Sure is hard to convince people that the earth is hotter than it ever has been when there’s snow on the ground. I’ve got a couple of inches of recently arrived gorebull warming I’m going to shovel off my driveway in the morning.
I guess what’s happening in Europe is the Gore effect by proxy and the only way to restore things to normal is to make huge piles of An Inconvenient Truth DVD’s and set them alight. Judging from the current rotational speed of the euroweenie windmills, it might be one of the few ways they have left to stay warm. I don’t think Gaia likes her vegetation to be deprived of airborne plant fertilizer. It will be interesting to see how much snow is needed in Europe to convince the people there it isn’t warming. Perhaps when there’s a mile of ice over some of the major cities some of the hardcore warmists might decide to have a fresh look at climate data.
During the time I lived in Calgary, I’ve only seen it not snow in August. I’ve been snowed on in the Alberta mountains every month of the year. Now all I have to do is to convince myself that freezing my ass off all winter is a very Canadian thing to do and that shoveling the driveway is easier than mowing the lawn. At least I can enjoy the heat of my wood stove in my workshop this time of year which is not something that is possible in Mexico.

  13. //Hell has frozen over! Yes! There is snow in Australia. //
    Relax.
In Australia, snow can fall in the mountains of Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Tasmania. There is a regular snow season in several areas which have seasonal ski tourism industries. Sometimes snow has even been reported in the mountains of South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland though this is very rare.
Snow at sea level has been recorded on mainland Australia but has happened more times in Tasmania, some of the snow at sea level has fallen in the off season like summer. Snow has fallen nearly everywhere in Tasmania, though it is rare to fall in the north coast at sea level.
The occasional cold snap, caused by cold air drifting north from Antarctica, can cause significant snowfall in rural areas, as well as major cities such as Hobart, Melbourne’s outer mountain suburbs, Canberra and Sydney. Such occasions are rare, but have occurred in 1951, 1986 and 2005.[3]

  14. Hell hath no fury like vertigo.
It’s just barely possible that Tim Blair is acquainted with Australia’s climate.
Today’s solstice is the summer variety down under.
The pie-ring lure for Gore was a nice touch, but now I’ll be Dreaming of a Wide Christmas.

  15. I truley believe thisi s an act of god stepping in to show the world how cruel and unjust we are becoming by trying to protect nature while criminalising and destroying our freedoms .
I think heh as seen enough ofthese excuses to absorbe power by govornemnt’s as well as the blatant theft of innocent citizens who are just tring to make a living to provide for themselves and there families, while the others are tring to punish them and steal there hard earned money .
I do beleive the lord does step in on occasion to ensure the innocent have a chance .
Anyway thank you lord. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

  16. @knight99
you might want to add beagle to that mix as well he is definatley slipping to that side ohh yeah and davenport too!!

  17. Speaking of The Guardian:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/dec/20/why-so-cold-winter
    I just loved this:
“The transport secretary has asked the government’s chief scientist whether future winters are likely to continue to deliver extreme conditions. What’s the likely answer? The short answer is we don’t know.”
Which lead to the following blindingly obvious conclusion (of course):
“Over coming decades, the predictions are clearer: it’s getting warmer.”

  18. Knight 99 at 7:58 AM: “On behalf of bleet/ mouth/ BJT – “Damned you all SDA just damned you all”!!!!!!!!”
    =============
Knight, damned you, you’ve got the punctuation wrong. It should be //Damned you all SDA just damned you all\\!!!!!!! No quotation marks allowed. Just trying to help.

  19. MAZ2, that article about China is interesting. My first thought was that the world is coming to an end as China was the first place that coal was used to produce steel, but upon reading the thing, I see the headline was another example of reality avoidance. The Chinese are freezing their balls off. It’s obviously a population control thing, since the one child policy has failed, they’re going for a no child policy.

  20. If you believe in cosmic justice/balance even a little, the cold snap inn our solar system is nature humbling the arrogance of fools like Al Gore.
People who think mankind is such a threat or thr savior of the natural world are being given a reminder of what forces of nature do. They make our lilliputian fears and efforts seem irrelevant.

  21. Calm down people.
We suspected and can now prove that the CO2 AGW nonsense was an almost successful SCAM to sell nothing for money (carbon credits)by such as Gore etc. and a failed coup-global by the UN bureaucrats.
China’s coal shortage is just another example of the failure of centrally planned totalitarian government.
Despite sophistry by the Brit “experts” Heathrow’s problem is not traffic volume but rather insufficient equipment to clear snow.
Stockholm Sweden’s airport has 3X the equipment.
It’s sorta like Tennesee trying to clear highways with stuff we use on parking lots.

  22. The Sun provides daylight under which we can discuss how man is manipulating the Earth’s climate and what to do about it. Right?

  23. glacierman at 12:29am “You might want to check out the Calgary Stampede the first week of August”
Typo alert – The Calgary Stampede is always during the first couple weeks of JULY.

  24. dwo is right about the date about Stampede week in Calgary. And glacierman is certainly right about the severe storms that crop up at that time of year.
This year I was surprised at the late ice I saw on this mountain lake on June 24. I hike through snow any month of the year here.
    Rawson Lake June 24 2010
Am looking for the return of the next ice age. A sure sign of that is new snowfall on top of last years snowfall.

  25. It may be cold somewhere but they are having record temperatures in the East Arctic. -3 in Alert now, which is a new record. Several other records being broken.
Its cold somewhere and warm somewhere else! What else is new.

  26. Shaken You don’t have to write a cheque. See we have been writing cheques for years with no results. So in the Christmas spirit we sent them cold weather instead of cash. They don’t seem to like that much better but there is a vicarious thrill because they have finally shut up for a while. They got what they wanted a lot cheaper than their plan. Man Ma Gaia must be capitalist or something thinking of my welfare like that.

  27. Shaken, I just got the word. Make the cheque payable to the Salvation Army and they’ll handle it for ya’. They will be ringing bells or such to scare away the warming gods. You can leave the cheque in the kettle. 🙂

  28. It seems like God follows Gore around with his many deranged climate children of the corn.
Everywhere these numskulls go, its frosty time.
You would have figured they had gotten the message already?
He Has a good sense of humor. Taking a pin to their environmental balloon boy suites.
Chasing Polar bears with a thermometer. I hope they chock on their lies, or this comes back to haunt them in the form of fraud charges.
    JMO

  29. I’ve got a 7 foot snow bank leaning against my house right now. seriously. I got an incredible deal on some work on my roof (idle hands and all that) but had to shovel the snow off it first.
how much greenhouse gas would it generate if I rented one of those construction site propane heaters to melt it all?

  30. Trying to put this into perspective, wouldn’t it be like getting snow in Canada in the Alberta foothills in July?
