  1. Nice. I was at the teddy bear toss game a few years ago at the Saddledome. At that time, people threw a then-record of something like 14,000 stuffed animals. I was sitting close to the one end, a couple rows up from the glass, and we got pelted like you wouldn’t believe.
But this latest event blows my mind. Well done.

  2. Hope all the Small Stuffed Animals find a home for Christmas!
Great fun and a little crazy…!

  3. Heh. Wonderful sight. According to some news reports, nearly 27,000 teddy bears were tossed onto the ice. Good for the fans, and good for the team. This will result, hopefully, in a whole lot of sick kids being able to feel just a little better.

  4. My younger daughter started a charity at her school (11 years old). She asked kids to bring in their unwanted toys *after* Christmas especially – and then it’s on to those who need it. Little socialist. *Sigh*, but with pride.

  5. Great. Here in Edmonchuck we have our’s tonight between the Oil Kings and Abbotsford. Doubt if we’ll beat that record though!

  6. My granddaughter watched this with me and I will have you all know she said “Grampa that is way cool”.

  7. I went to the Ottawa 67’s Teddy Bear Toss game last year. My first time going, I had no idea what that actually meant.
The 67’s finally scored about halfway through the 2nd period, and I found out pretty quick. I have to say it was quite impressive to see the cascade of stuffed animals coming over the glass and covering the ice. Still makes me grin thinking about it.

  8. What a bunch of pussies! Here in the East we toss octopus and other small dead animals.
By the way, FoxNews reports that this is an all-time world’s record for a teddy bear toss.

  9. Iam going to saturday nite’s game Owen Sound Attack Vs Niagra Ice Dogs
With a special guest appearing at game
The Stanley Cup sponsored by crimestoppers
I have to find an Old Leafs Sweater to wear because thats only time a maple leaf will get near the cup.

  10. At the link to Drudge I saw a far more important story: Obama and the Missus are NOT being invited to Prince Willie’s wedding!!!!
    Must be racism.

  11. Ratt,
It’s an annual thing that some hockey teams do, usually close to Christmas.
At a Teddy Bear Toss game, when the home team scores their first goal of the game, you can toss a stuffed animal onto the ice to be donated to a children’s charity/hospital, etc.
BTW, it’s rink, not ring, but I won’t hold that against you.

  12. At a Hitmen game last week and there were only about 2000 in the crowd. This is awesome the city came out to support this great charitable event sponsored by the Jr team.
My daughter was in the Alberta Children’s Hospital 23 years ago just before Christmas and received a teddy bear. It quickly became her fave and she still has it! It really does make a difference.
Thanks fans of the Hitmen. You are an awesome lot.

Must be the inappropriate gift the royals and the Browns received last time there was a git-together.

  14. Junior games belong in a genre all themselves. We used to throw pucks on the ice during play. Last game some dudes were mulling hanging the ref..course that could be booze driven.

  15. This is way better than that disgusting spectacle hosted at our local arena. The ‘Midget Toss’ seemed like such a good idea at the time!

  16. Calgary is the givinest city evah!! Losing hockey team?? who cares, don’t matter. They still pay large to watch to team lose and toss teddy bears. It’s the spirit of the city. we’re lovers not losers.

  17. Kelly, at least they weren’t throwing empty mickey bottles onto the ice in Calgary like they did back in the wild days of the World Hockey Association league.
I went to one game. And only one game.
Actually I think it was attributed to a loaded bus load from Edmonton.
    heh

  18. The gesture & the generosity are admirable. However, from a hockey point of view, this sort of promotion should be left to intermission. The game was delayed for nearly 45 minutes. That ought to result in a delay of game penalty to the home team.
