The Decline And Fall Of The American Empire

Why isn’t Julian Assange dead yet?

His secretary of state does not comprehend that America is the subject of the attack, his department of defence is not interested in defending us, and the president himself seems utterly indifferent to the whole affair.

  1. possible wikileaks bombshells:

    Proof Elvis is alive.
    Who killed Tu-Pac.

  2. It doesn’t bother them because they are liberals.
Somewhat similar to why feminists cannot be bothered to assist women in the middle east.
And why Greenpeace does not protest at oil wells in Venezuela.
    Etc.
All that said, I don’t think the wikileaks affair is entirely a bad thing. Governments have in general become utterly useless, and the more their incompetence is exposed the better.

  3. As the Dems say, Don’t let a crisis go to waste.
Wikileaks is a real good excuse for the Fed to regulate (control) the internet.

  4. The democrat party is sinking fast as is their dear leader.
Castles made of sand slips into the sea … eventually – Jimi Hendrix (Electric Ladyland)
That is a metaphor for socialist governments.

  5. As tempting and visceral as it might seem for some, a “Jason Bourne asset” operation is the stuff of melodrama.
My sense is that a quiet and deliberate intelligence-based operation is underway to isolate and undermine both Assange and Wikileaks.
Assange has used his status as a foreign national outside the writ of US authorities to his advantage. But it’s a double-edged sword: because he’s not a US citizen and does not reside in the US, he’s a much more straightforward US intelligence target.
I think concerted intelligence work, combined with the very diplomacy he so despises, and action to isolate Wikileaks financially could be his undoing.
On second thought, Assange himself could be the architect of his own undoing. He is the least appealing and sympathetic character possible to don the mantle of crusader for justice and truth.
He’s just going to run out of friends and money.

  6. So, one day every conservatively minded person is for the government transparency , then the next day some are not.
Also , you can play a re-mastered. old record “If you have nothing to hide, what are you afraid of..?”

  7. Julian Assange :“I grew up in a Queensland country town where people spoke their minds bluntly. They distrusted big government as something that could be corrupted if not watched carefully.”
I wonder if it would make a difference if he would grow up in Saskatchewan country?

  8. Arrested by Interpol for what?? ‘But it’s just SEX…’ – Where have we heard that one before?

  9. Apart from exposing the diplomats’ and the politicians’ incompetence and lack of integrity, which only is a plus as far as I am concerned, where is the terrible damage that these leaks are supposed to cause? How many innocent people have died so far?
The truth will set you free.
(Btw, this affair has nothing to do with breach of privacy, as these cables (e.g.) belong to the state, i.e. the people, i.e. us.)

  10. johan i kanada; I live in Saskatchewan and the govt owns the power company(Saskpower) and (Sasktel)a phone company. If you think that we,as residents of Sask.own these two company’s,you are sadly mistaken. If we did then we should be able to sell our share when we leave the province,or at least vote on the board of directors. We can do neither. They are owned by THE GOVT.OF SASKATCHEWAN,not the PEOPLE of Saskatchewan.Never forget it.

  11. The timing of the leak is so conveniently coinciding with elevated interest of the public to Homeland security groping, Iranian nuke, another bailout etc. etc.

  12. The funny thing is, he apparently thinks theis chump-change “rape” charge in Sweden is the result of “them” being “after him”… As if being charged with rape by the Swedes is the worst thing that could possibly happen to him.
Sorry, sonny-boy. That ain’t the worst that can happen when you go wandering into Spookville. Not by a long damn shot.

  13. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that not everybody on this rock is as savage as you are?
Why do you hate democracy? Why do you think seedy government business should be kept from the people who voted for these creeps?
Oh, that’s right, because your tiny little brains might actually have to think about the fact that some of the stuff that is allegedly done in the name of democracy is in fact directly in opposition to that concept of government.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled “climate-change-is-a-leftist-conspiracy” circle jerk.

  14. @WalterF
Wow… I can’t believe I agree with American Thinker on something. Crazy. Maybe there is hope for a rational dialogue after all? Not here I mean… but somewhere.

  15. The problem with you John and your Progressive ilk is that ‘ends’ always justify the ‘means’. Simply because you and others (perhaps I) deem the revelations from the leak as “good” revelations, does not warrant the initial actions that will have intended and unintended consequences. As Charles Adler asked “do you have any doubt that if WikiLeaks existed in WW2 that they’d have leaked information pertinent to D-Day? Do you have any doubt that WikiLeaks would have leaked Anne Frank’s location?”(paraphrasing here). None of us (including Assange) are smart or wise enough to fully understand the consequences of the WikiLeaks leaks. This is a “me” move by Assange no matter how he spins this.
The bottom line here John is nations have a right to private correspondence, and this guy Assange is no different than “Dharun Ravi, 18, of Plainsboro, and Molly Wei, 18, of Princeton,” who released video of a PRIVATE nature with the intent to cause harm to the person(s) involved.

    Grab a principle dude.

  16. “(Btw, this affair has nothing to do with breach of privacy, as these cables (e.g.) belong to the state, i.e. the people, i.e. us.)”
You are correct about the breach of privacy: a non-issue.
These cables didn’t belong to us though. They belonged to the US Government.
And for the record, Canadian diplomatic cables don’t belong to you either. They belong to the Crown in Right of Canada.
    Time you started growing up.

  17. America was built on dreams. No substance. Much Like Eire. I remember George Bush holding up Eire as a great example of free market. What happened to it and America? Towers of steel feet of clay. Read the book.

  18. “…where is the terrible damage that these leaks are supposed to cause?”
While some of the leaks may indeed expose government actions which are inconsistent with the public interest, this is not true of all of them. Some of the current and past leaks provide intelligence for terrorists in North America and abroad. This would seem to make Assange, metrosexual though he may seem, an unlawful enemy combatant.

  19. Kate…you’re a sheep..quit with this assassination BS…it’s WAAAY more illegal than anything Assange has done or allegedly done. Calling for someone to be killed is for simple-minded savages…especially when it concerns someone ACTUALLY revealing the truth. Maybe that’s it, you’re just jealous because Assange accomplishes what you can’t, as hard as you might try to convince yourself otherwise. And it just so happens that the truth doesn’t match your version of reality.

  20. “Some of the current and past leaks provide intelligence for terrorists in North America and abroad.”
    Like what?
Wikileaks has exposed some items that shouldn’t have been, but they’re also doing a pretty damn good job at exposing things that should be. These are more privacy issues than anything, I haven’t heard of anything exposed that would threaten the lives of your average citizen. They are a young organization, and are improving their judgment on what should and shouldn’t be leaked.

  21. Assange: the unlawful enemy combatant:
    http://spectrum.ieee.org/riskfactor/telecom/internet/wikileaks-unintentionally-abetting-terrorism-or-not
    http://www.nypost.com/p/news/international/taliban_seeks_vengeance_on_afghans_cy9V6VfsOcOW3982DAC44O
By the way, Kate has never called for Assange to be killed. She is wondering, as do many of us, why someone who is so eager to play in the world of spooks hasn’t experienced some retaliation with extreme prejudice. Probably because he hasn’t yet started playing with the serious players like Russia.

  22. Felis…get real pal…what the hell are some middle eastern terrorists going to do with a list of buildings, mines, and pipelines that one could likely find with a little internet research. The cables didn’t have any specific information about the sites, nothing to aid an attack. Plus 2.5 million people had access to this info to begin with!
As for the taliban topic…a mistake made by Wiki was releasing the names of Afghan informants, however, to plead your concern for Afghan civilians whilst supporting the US war on them is a hypocritical stance to say the least.
She sure doesn’t show any support for the guy, while imply he’ll be assassinated…right…Russia…maybe its cause he isn’t an American citizen, then they’d have a free go, since the US has recently changed the law forbidding the assassination of its citizens.

  23. BTJ, you are a prime example of the rule “Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt.”
Get you head out of your ass and read up on terrorist attacks and plots cooked up my Muslim radicals living in the West. My goodness, but some of you on the left are such idiotic stooges.

  24. Get you head out of your ass and read up on terrorist attacks and plots cooked up my Muslim radicals living in the West. My goodness, but some of you on the left are such idiotic stooges.
I suspect that BTJ, like myself, is not here to read about your cackamanny movie-plot scenarios. The plots cooked up by these radicals have nothing to do with the kind of info released by WikiLeaks.
It’s informative to watch how quickly ‘limited government’ cons turn into ‘KILL THEM ALL’ savages when you push their buttons right. Of course, this is because conservatives have no principles.

  25. There is an interveiw on infowars with webster tarpley,it will give you an entirly diffrent take on what is really going on.Think CIA!!!

  26. I find it interesting that Assange and Wikileaks are apparently incapable of collecting any classified information from Russia, China, Venezuela, or any other totalitarian regime:
“The majority of pacifists either belong to obscure religious sects or are simply humanitarians who object to the taking of life and prefer not to follow their thoughts beyond that point. But there is a minority of intellectual pacifists whose real though unadmitted motive appears to be hatred of western democracy and admiration of totalitarianism. Pacifist propaganda usually boils down to saying that one side is as bad as the other, but if one looks closely at the writings of younger intellectual pacifists, one finds that they do not by any means express impartial disapproval but are directed almost entirely against Britain and the United States. Moreover they do not as a rule condemn violence as such, but only violence used in defence of western countries.”
~ George Orwell, Notes on Nationalism (1945)

  27. Whether Assange is a left wing lunatic and/or a rapist is hardly relevant to the topic at hand, i.e. the recent Wikileaks.
Can someone please tell what terrible damage these leaks actually have done (i.e. to identified individuals)?
Isn’t it great that these politrucks are exposed as incompetent and unprincipled?
(Earlier we all strongly suspected this, but now, when there is proof, some chooses to shoot the messenger.)

  28. “Get you head out of your ass and read up on terrorist attacks and plots cooked up my Muslim radicals living in the West. My goodness, but some of you on the left are such idiotic stooges.”
Please, inform me Louise…how exactly could ‘Muslim radicals’ attack these targets? What, with some exploding underwear?! Gimme a break, come down to reality.
” Of course, this is because conservatives have no principles.”
    The nonsense in here is deafening, isn’t it…just one point..they aren’t conservatives, they’re neo-cons.
“I find it interesting that Assange and Wikileaks are apparently incapable of collecting any classified information from Russia, China, Venezuela, or any other totalitarian regime:”
But the US is so much more interesting, and so much more powerful! What the hell does Russia have going on?! The US has, by FAR, the most powerful and profound influence on the world.
