From September 1939, here’s the beloved Vera Lynn, Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, who turned 93 earlier this year, singing There’ll Always Be An England. This will be followed by a stirring and stately version of God Save The Queen.

Being an atheist in “Palestine” is a tough gig.
Btw, I’m sick as a dog – have been since Monday afternoon – so I’ll be, erm, bellowing at the porcelain chamber gods instead of tending comments. I’d appreciate it if our gallant regulars would police the thread, and avoid responding to trolls, etc. Thank you.
EBD, I must know on behalf of the SDA nation, is the answer to Antenor’s question from last night’s LNR, bikini or would you be au natual?
I’m proud to say both my parent’s were born in the USA. We celebrated American Thanksgiving heartily while growing up in a small Southern Ontario town.
Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends!
And God Bless America!!
Is, “There’ll always be an England” your choice for today… any relation to today’s final fly off of Harriers from the Arc Royal? The loss / early decommissioning of their navy’s flagship years early for cost cutting while the civil servants cash their checks, (cheques?) is madness. Oh don’t worry about England, the replacement will be ready in about 9 years, if all goes well…

Speaking of God saving the King, atheism etc., it has been said that the Prince of Wales and his betrothed have been living together (carnally) for some time now. This is not all that shocking given the known licentiousness of past monarchs, and especially of the founder of the national faith, Henry Tudor VIII. However, seeing as he will most certainly become our king and Head of State, and given that he will become the Head of the Church of England and the universal Anglican Communion, one wonders if he sets a good example. Now he is not the head of my particular Church, but it seems to me, that he sets a poor example for the youth or the Commonwealth overall, both as Head of the State and Defender of the Faith. It is my understanding from reading the British Spectator, that England presently has the highest rate of illegitimacy (that is to say unmarried mothers) in all of Europe, and that it is a hugely expensive cost on the taxpaying public, and it seems to me that it is a sin in the Anglican Church to live together without benefit of clergy. Elizabeth (long may she reign) will not be pleased, I’m sure, of course her benighted son was not a great example to her eldest grandson, was he? Still, I suppose even that is better than Adrienne Clarkson.
EBD, My sympathies on your illness. I posted above before I knew you were incapacitated.
Like bluetech, I celebrate American Thanksgiving. Should any SDAers be in the south Ottawa area tomorrow

I was a snot nosed kid living in Aldershot, Hampshire at the outbreak of war. Dad, a sergeant in the old line regular army. He was a Dunkirk veteran.
Many, many times have I questioned the war. Heresy though it may be. Reasons will not be stated here. Yet, the film got me going like I was just a kid again. The emotion welled up and I sort of felt very proud of all of ’em.
How we all sort of tried to get along and strangers offering help. Not to forget lend-lease and the help we got from Uncle Sam. Or Canada coming in a few days after.
I don’t recognize protestant adultering inbreds as my “head of state”.
After E dies I say “F&*K the monarchy.

Your information had me checking. The first line shows an incredible turn around presumably.
I learned that the dead girl is a Norwegian national who was hitting the party scene in London. She knew the man for eight months and he has fled to the Yemen in his father’s private plane.
He will not be extradited, there being no treaty to do so. I suppose to these young women, men such as her killer, appear to be the romantic version of old Rudolph Valentino.
A terrible price to pay.

I just came across a letter to the editor regarding a recent David Suzuki appearance in New Brunswick.
It’s the fourth letter plus the first comment after the letters.

EBD get well.
Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends.
I suspect that Britain is fighting another Battle of Britain and it looks bad at the moment.

Follow the money……………….
This is another singing sensation with a presentation of: “Thank You America”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIJAZeJ4W4s&feature=related
I think this comment of 2 years ago says it all. “Simple, heartfelt patriotism. Something that is scorned today by broad sections of the population in the West. With enemies increasing in numbers outside and inside our borders, this may eventually prove to be our downfall.”
Happy Thanksgiving America.
Hope you are well soon; EDB.
Poor EBD.

Whatever. Get well soon.
Stirring up a glass of ginger ale to make it go flat and drinking that, works wonders for an upset stomach as well.
Must be the wonders of ginger…..LOL
My hope is that you didn’t pay some cruise line or air carrier and end up contacting some “norwalk” shuffle as my wife and I did.
Time should help.
Get well, EBD!
(Via RAND Corp.) John S. Hollywood And Kevin J. Strom, Alert public and cops foiled the most terrorism schemes
Researchers from the Institute for Homeland Security Solutions at RTI International in Research Triangle Park and the RAND Corporation analyzed what thwarted 68 potential cases of terrorism in the U.S. from 1999 to 2009. (That number compares favorably with 18 executed attacks during the same decade.)
We found that the general public and/or law enforcement officials stopped more than 80 percent of the potential attacks. A number of these were uncovered when someone heard something suspicious and reported it to law enforcement….
Our study reaffirms that there is no single racial, ethnic, ideological, or religious profile for domestic terrorists. In the decade we examined, only 27 percent of plots on U.S. soil had a direct connection to AQAM – an abbreviation for Al Qaida and affiliated movements, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Taliban, and similar groups. And 20 percent more were self-motivated terrorists who say they were inspired by AQAM. The majority of suspects had other motivations. Further, many of the suspects in the AQAM-related plots were not of Middle Eastern nationality or origin.
We found no cases where reported profiling helped stop a terrorist plot, which suggests that counterterrorism efforts in the United States need to focus on what people do, not on who they are….
Max Boot, TSA Scanners vs. Profiling Redux
As they say in Congress, I would like to expand and clarify my previous remarks on TSA security screening. Abby Wisse Schachter at the New York Post has a thoughtful response taking issue with my endorsement of body scanners and pat-downs. She concedes that racial/ethnic profiling doesn’t work, but goes on to argue:
Even when done by well-trained Israeli operatives, the interviews are sometimes insufficient. That is made clear by this account (from the website of Israel’s security agency, Shabak) of a 1988 attempted bombing of an El Al flight from London to Tel Aviv….
> And 20 percent more were self-motivated terrorists who say they were inspired by AQAM
All it means that muslims must be removed from the West.
Let me use this opportunity to remind everyone of the real Canadian hero who is rotting in jail, guilty only of the ‘paper’ violations which he committed intentionally in order to be charged and have a chance to challenge constitutionality of the bad law.
That is Bruce Montague, the champion of Canadian firearms owners’ cause, convicted to a sentence longer than the drug dealers and robbers get.
On top of that Ontario government is railroading that great man and taking revenge to his family by confiscating his home and farm under the ‘proceeds of crime’ act (intended to apply to the mafia bosses).

Please read, write letters, make phone calls and help save the innocent family members from injustice.
Bravo, Minister Kenney.

“Canada won’t attend UN Durban racism conference ‘hatefest’: Harper government”
“OTTAWA – Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says Canada will not attend a UN conference on racism next September because the event will be a “charade” and a “hatefest.”
The conference, dubbed “Durban III,” is intended to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2001 meeting in South Africa aimed at defeating racism.
Canada and several other countries walked out of that meeting after Iran and several other countries began ganging up on Israel.
Canada was the first country to withdraw from Durban II last year in Geneva.
Kenney says the UN General Assembly has chosen to “repeat and even augment the mistakes of the past” by holding a commemorative meeting in New York next year.
He says the government has lost faith in the process and Canada “will not lend our good name to this Durban hatefest.”
Kenney says Canada is clearly committed to the fight against racism, but he says the Durban process “commemorates an agenda that actually promotes racism rather than combats it.””

Danny Williams stepping down Dec.03/10
http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20101125/danny-williams-announcement-101125/
Sir Paul Stephenson QPM, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, speaking at RUSI on Building National Resilience to the terrorist threat, 24 November 2010:
When considering the threat, we must remind ourselves that, since 9/11 in 2001, there have been numerous international terrorist plots disrupted in the UK by the combined efforts of the Security and Intelligence Services working side by side with Counter Terrorist policing. Had the terrorists been successful, each one of these plots could have resulted in mass fatalities.
It could be claimed that this is a good track record, though the vivid, personal tragedies of victims and families being described presently in the Inquest into the 7/7 bombings is a reminder to us all of the potential human cost of one single day of atrocities….
But one might view this high expectation as a sign of confidence by the public in our capability, and a recognition of our success in thwarting attacks to date. Perhaps – but there may also be an element of a simple inability to accept the real potential for such devastating, murderous attacks, despite the history of 7/7, in a society still for the most part relatively untouched by such events. We set ourselves high aspirations, but a note of caution – there is no such thing as absolute or perfect security. Effective, but acceptable security within a liberal democracy inevitably requires compromise, and it is for Parliament, on behalf of citizens, to balance our desire for security with the value we place on our freedoms….
The best protection for us all is in public vigilance and awareness, and a willingness to report concerns about unusual behaviour – whether that involves a single individual or a group of people.
Anyone who has information has a number of ways of getting that to the relevant authorities, whether it is through the Anti-Terrorist Hotline or via the MI5 website. Their information could save lives and their anonymity is guaranteed.
Terrorists search for weaknesses and vulnerabilities in our systems, and in turn we need to do all we can to deter them by ensuring we take every protective measure. Again this goes beyond the capabilities of the Police alone….

“UK-based Taliban spend months fighting Nato forces in Afghanistan”
I guess when they get injured fighting British soldiers in Afghanistan, they fly back to Britain and recuperate under the care of the NHS.
The Taliban deserves to win. The West deserves to lose.
“Anything you can do… incredible moment a wolf catches a salmon using fishing technique copied from a bear”
“His powerful jaws clamped around a huge salmon, this wolf looks mightily pleased with himself.
This wonderful photograph captures the rare moment that a wolf was caught on camera fishing after learning the technique from bears.
With a massive grizzly in the foreground the wolf can clearly be seen setting itself, leaping and then grabbing the huge fish from the water.
The amazing sequence – which some even dubbed a hoax or photoshopped – was captured in just minutes by wildlife photographer Paul Stinsa.”

Here’s a podcast of a brilliant talk by British author, Melanie Phillips. She touches upon a lot of hot button issues frequently discussed here on SDA.
Bryanr – There has to be a bigger story behind this announcement. Why would a man with 80% approval rating be stepping down unless he’s stepped into a pile of political dung?
h/t The Anchoress (http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/theanchoress/)
Jonah Goldberg at National Review vis a vis the Roman Church, condoms, and Thanksgiving:
Meanwhile, the Church does perhaps more than any other institution to aid the sick and feed the hungry in Africa, something you certainly can’t say about many of the critics in the Fourth Estate peanut gallery.
As for the Church’s preferred approach — abstinence until marriage — it may be impractical in most parts of the world, as the critics claim. But it would undeniably save more lives than condom use if put into practice. What seems to offend many isn’t the efficacy of the solution but the suggestion that such values have any place in the modern world.
The Church’s position is that the truest notes are those that not only celebrate life and love but cut through the whitewater din of devouring time. As those notes become harder to hear, the answer isn’t to stop playing them but to turn up the volume.

BTW, Happy Thanksgiving, American readers!
batb @ 8:41 – Beautifully put and so true!
Robert, thank you so much for the Melanie Phillips talk. She really exposes the real enemy which is mostly internal in the West. I’m afraid without that Sun News TV station, we in Canader are doomed and the Liberals know it.
