Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

That’s a fine looking horse, even at 30 years old, which is really old for a full-sized horse, especially a racehorse.
The first full-length book I read as a kid was “Green Grass of Wyoming” by Mary O’Hara; the second was a novel about Man O’ War and his groom.
I remember being thrilled by the descriptions of the young guy taking ‘Big Red’ out for runs on the sly.
Those books are what drove me to start riding a couple of years later.
Thanks for posting this.
The writer really gets his point across and you can feel his empathy and deep respect for a magnificent animal. Man o’ War, even at great age is still a eye full as he gazes across his paddock.
If alive, he could probably still win the Derby.
When Windsor,ON. and Canada were great the Man-O-War vs Sir Barton match up was the sporting event of the year. People traveled from far and wide and stayed far away as Toronto to travel down to Windsor by train. The race was the very first to be filmed from start to finish.
The Kenilworth Race Track is now a subdivision but the race is still remembered but that local history will soon be forgotten.
Here is footage of the race.

Simeon, I watched the vid and it reminded me of Secretariat winning the Belmont by 30 lengths. Wasn’t that the race that Jimmy the Greek said, “sure he won the Derby and the Preakness but he looks like a horse from a country fair”?
here i go mentioning my recent sabbatical in Espagne but i must say i saw(i arrived in the middle of a feria in Fuengirola/malaga)more supremely beautiful horseflesh during the fiesta than i have ever seen in my life before…them spaniards know their horses…from dapple grey arabians with proud cordoban hat wearing ramrod straight riders all the way to carriage and six teams….it simply never ended…and i saw a bay mare leading a carriage and six by ONLY a filament of fishing line to the coachman that absolutely transfixed my imagination and shocked my ocular aesthetic….i do not exaggerate…i have NEVER seen a wiser more eautiful clever vain physically perfect HIGH stepping horse in my life…i would have let her babysit my children.she was the mythical horse you see on etruscan pottery or macedonian coins…her arched neck and head tucked into it….her flirting to the crowd as she circled the bullring leading her team of six with a string attached to her halter….
ah…words don’t do it justice.
I don’t give two figs about horse racing, BUT…. I like a good story.
One with a bit of history mixed in.
That was a great story
Beautiful horse…but what is with the ribs? Being a long-time horse lover, seems to me the animal may be undernourished.
But perhaps it is just me…
He was 30 years old in that photo, Bruce.
Thanks for posting this. To see this generations Man o” War make sure to watch the Breeders Cup Classic in 2 weeks as Zenyatta goes for her 20th win in a row. She is an amazing physical specimen with charisma and talent to boot.
Well, it’s a lovely photo, but frankly I was expecting to see some kind of jellyfish…
