I recall a gunship crew returning from their first outing with the mini-guns…..much excitment and enthusiasm…..which had disappeared by the time they had broken down the ammo and reloaded. part of the Army air crews’ job is not just firing but also reloading the ship….armourers are only involved with installation, repairs, replacement and maintainence.
After that first outing the door gunners were less trigger happy and conserved ammo…..

As fer Dillonesque, check out the round repositoner and booster for continuous feeding of ammunition.
For a Chinook they would likely be carrying those 4400 round magazines which explains the lengthier times to refill the magazine.
On the other hand that would be a pretty impressive way to lay down a field of fire. Welcome to the ‘beaten zone’…

It’s too bad that the picture of the nose art was published. Some left-liberal retread is going to complain our troops are being too aggressive. (Been there, wrt a little nose art on an AVGP)
Nose art is good for morale. This why even the stoggy Brits allow their people to name their tanks and guns (guns have wheels) and paint that name on the glacis plate/trunions….
We know the “left-liberal retreads” seek to damage morale….we figured that out 30-35 years back.
I recall a “journalist”, observing a patrol, getting pi$$y, because as we were passing some locals in a paddy…one of our people calmly popped one, “because he looked up”. A hour later when he was closest to another bunch of locals…one looked up…the idiot “journalist” waved….then the lads opened up as the “innocent civilian” came up with an AK…..from then on the “journalist” was one of ours ….complete with a brown stain…

……..everything has a colour….compansion/mercy/stupidity are all coloured red……..
