“To say that this blockade would be jeopardized by the flotilla and that sometime down the road weapons might come into Gaza as a result, and thereby pose a threat to Israel, is to stretch the definition of self defence way further than anyone ever countenanced.”..

I have recently written the Prime Minister (he is my Member of Parliament) about this matter. Yes, Canada needs immigrants, but we need people who are willing to work and learn English. My daughter moved to Vancouver this past month for University. Her Landlord arrived from Bulgaria in 2005 and he and his wife worked all the hours God gives to buy their first house in a formerly dodgy neighbourhood of Vancouver. They bought the house in 2006. Other than English lessons in the church basement at night, he did not take any Gov’t handouts. Now they have rented out their house to students and have bought another in Victoria where they live. His English is still a bit odd, but understandable. These are the immigrants I want in Canada.
Johanne, exactly. Good on those people. This is exactly how our family integrated into Canadian society in the 1920s after leaving the socialist paradise of Russia and with no government handouts. Descendants are now represented in a broad range of occupations, from farming, teaching, medical to truck driving, and yes even one lawyer. NONE are on welfare or ever have been.
The Liberals and NDPs just want immigrants who will support their socialist hand out schemes, vote for them and fundamentally change society to reflect their failed homelands.

However now we have in Toronto the multiculti silos that Dave mentions above where 50% of our population is new Canadians. That is not a healthy situation when Liberal cronyism uses the multiculti MO to buy off ethnic votes and keep them in silos where they can be manipulated; creating a return to a 2-class system of feudalism, rulers and peasants.

World anthropologists said this existed 30 years ago as Canadians were easily recognized wherever they were in the world due to their appearance, their attitudes toward women, animals, freedom, democracy and fair play, their religion. Now by discriminating in favor of visible minorities, family integration and reunification, incentives to asian immigrants over european, and the greatest immigration inflo in the world per capita, and special hiring to minoarities etc The Canadian race is no more. We are not unified even in obne city let alone from coast to coast as we once were. We can not sustainably support our population. Stop immigration Until we have a population policy.

As MLK said, we should be judged not by our colour but by the content of our character. Ergo , we need a culture that developes/adapts out of our core principles. Many of these non-European immigrants come from tribal societies.
Their tribes are esentially one huge extended family and our government is importing whole villages which vote as blocks.

I’ve railed here and elsewhere about the nonsensical family reunification class of immigrant, which typically means elderly parent or grandparent — people who will contribute little to the social safety net, yet will draw disproportionately from same.
Immigration policy is in serious need of debate in this country. Sadly, we all know what epithet will be hurled the way of anybody who tries to engage honest debate on the topic.
There has never been a far-left wing agenda that Byers has not enthusiastically endorsed. The sad thing is that this wingnut is teaching our children.
My parents were both immigrants to Canada from the Netherlands – in 1955.
My dad remembers coming over on a ship in his early 20’s with his parents, and Immigration at Pier 21 (Halifax, I think) telling him, “You want to live here? If you want to work, there’s work for you. If you don’t – well, you can go somewhere else.”.
He’s well into retirement now, and gets along with a limp and a cane. Whenever we visit our talk eventually ends up politics, and we talk about how different it is now for immigrants (refugee or otherwise) in comparison to when he arrived – he says it’s crazy how people can come in and expect welfare and a place to live without working at all; He’s more incensed about that private members bill (Libby Davis put it forward, I think) where if someone is in Canada for 3 years, they could apply for Old Age Security pension – basically, come on down and take the taxpayers for fools, even though they’ve never paid into the system at all.
I remember as a young man thinking that I never wanted to turn into my father. It’s funny, but I’m proud to say that the older I get the more like him I try to be.

Kathanon, I think it was Ruby Dhalla. She wanted this for her Indian immigrants. As my sister who was a nurse at Markam Stouffville Hospital stated these old at 50 parents and grandparents just move right from the immigration hall to her hospital and never contribute a cent to Canada but they and their family know every government program they can tap into.

Byers sounds like someone working for the “Ministry of Truth” in his claim of there being “legal” self-defence and “illegal” self-defence. So when he is attacked, I gather he first ponders about whether or not it is legal to defend himself. That is in the same ball park as a “legal” vs “illegal” war. What utter non sense!
