Thinking of learning to play the accordion? A good way to get started is to play along with Ukrainian kid Alexander Hrustevich’s version of the Summer Movement from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Once you are able to perform the exercise straight through without any mistakes, you can move on to more difficult material.

Soeren Kern at Hudson-ny.org:
“La Meca, a popular discotheque in southern Spain, has agreed to change its name and architectural design after Islamic extremists threatened to initiate ‘a great war between Spain and the people of Islam’ if it did not.”
(…)
“The current row began in August, when a Senegalese immigrant rejected a job offer at La Meca because the club’s name, he said, offended his religion. Soon thereafter, a group of Muslim radicals posted a video on the Internet calling for a boycott of Spanish goods, and jihad against those who ‘blaspheme the name of Allah.’ Then, in early September, after Moroccan hackers broke into the club’s webpage and posted a video threatening ‘a great war between Spain and the people of Islam’ if the name were not changed, Spain’s intelligence agency, the Centro Nacional de Inteligencia (CNI), warned La Meca’s owners that the discotheque was being directly targeted by Islamic extremists. Within days, the controversy spread like wildfire across the Middle East and North African…”
(…)
“On September 16, the nightclub owners held a press conference during which — under the close supervision of local Muslim leaders — they announced that the venue’s name would be changed to La Isla (the island) ‘to avoid further problems and to ensure that patrons keep coming.'”
Carpet bombing is the correct response to religious blackmail.
WTF Saskatchewan…..
Residents of Quebec (71 per cent) and Saskatchewan and Manitoba (both 60 per cent) are more likely to think that the environmental risks associated with oilsands development outweigh the need for energy.

Alrighty then. How about you hand over that Oilsands property to us Albertans who know what to do with it?
Michelle Hviid, 37, achieved nationwide fame four years ago when she created “Michelle’s Mission” — an integration project to encourage immigrants and native Danes to have dinner together. Now she is deeply frustrated at living in Nørrebro, one of North West Copenhagen’s ghetto areas.
This spring was the third time Michelle Hviid’s 12-year old son Benjamin was attacked by a gang of immigrant boys.
. . .
Michelle Hviid’s faith in better integration also compelled her to enrol her three-year old daughter in the local kindergarten. It is situated close to some of the residential areas of Nørrebro which have been designated ghetto areas. But now she has withdrawn her daughter from this kindergarten.
. . .
My frustration peaked when one of the mothers attacked a teacher. My daughter witnessed the other teachers’ intervention to stop the attack, and she experienced the adults being very violent. I removed my daughter immediately and kept her at home until we could be offered an alternative placement.”
. . .
“You have to watch your mouth, though. I don’t want to be accused of being a racist. But I live in a neighbourhood with a problematic mixture of inhabitants. There are ghettos in a lot of ways. When I get annoyed at young people running around and causing trouble I tell myself that it is not because they are immigrants. I’m annoyed by them because they cause trouble. But at the same time I have to say that 90 percent of the people who frustrate me because they don’t behave decently, … they are not Danes. I’m not annoyed by them because they are not Danes, but because they don’t behave like decent people.”
For the time being Michelle Hviid intends to stay put.
“I love my apartment and my neighbours on the same stairway. Six or seven couples who are our very best friends live on our stairway, and we often eat together. We have our own successful “collective” surrounded by the ghetto. I also really love my 180 sq.m. apartment which I have decorated myself. It has three balconies and a roof terrace. It’s also not a good time to sell; we would lose a lot of money if we sold right now,” she says.

Paul in Calgary:
I checked out the profile of MBNA. Canadian headquarters are in Montreal, Quebec. Last time I looked, Montreal was in Canada. If it had an oil derrick on it, would you be complaining? And my guess is that the fleur-de-lis may me a security mark.
And to think that I had commnets removed from this site because I was too “racist.”
Not a reader tip – but blending an oilsands and Mississauga Matt’s tip
I was recently talking to a physician from Fort Mac (Mc).
He said there are a lot of Muslim agitators up there now. A woman married a Muslim guy who owned a local shop – she was a “Caucasoid Canadian” – people started showing up at the house, and telling her she had to cover herself – it got so bad that they both moved away.
Next complaint, not that it matters – am I really white, and classifiable as so? I darken more than some of my Philippino friends in the summer, and have more in common with my Commonwealth colleagues (Indian, Fijian) than my true Caucasoid pigmented cohort. (eg south Eastern European)
Hey Scripto – your comment is interesting. It raises some interesting questions – such as should PiC be annoyed because his card has a fleur-de-lis?
Well, he is; is he right or is he wrong?
I remember back to when I was a kid – and my mom’s cousin married a woman from Quebec. Many people were shocked – not only was she Catholic, but she was a francophone.
Those concerns seem petty to me now, now that we are entering clashes of civilizations (see comments above).
Yet, our politicians will be happy to polarize us on the wrong topics.

‘Guess this means that Maggie Trudeau’s going to have to eat her words. Yesterday she was quoted as saying something inane about her late ex-husband’s legacy which oozed unctuousness and flat-out craziness.
A few days ago, the dizzy dame attended a launching of a 188-page book of black and white images of the late prime minister taken by Canadian Press news photographers to mark the 10th anniversary of Mr. Trudeau’s death today. (I won’t be buying it.)

Of Trudeau’s pirouette, the photographer who took it, Doug Ball, commented that it showed “the late prime minister’s ‘maverick anti-conformism’
and ‘disdain for aristocratic pomp.’”
‘No mention of its revealing Trudeau’s monumental ego and brazen, infantile idiocy.

Ignatieff’s open mike tour; because this is what is really important:
“one university student asked if Ignatieff earned the right to lead?
“I am working to earn it every single day, handshake-by-handshake, baby-by-baby, public meeting by public meeting.”
Even better:
“(These accomplishments) were done by fallible ordinary people . . . susceptible to corruption, susceptible to error, they make bad judgments and they’re just like you and boy I’m proud to be one of them.”

We have now reflected on the matter, and on some information from attendees at the meeting in question. We have, I’m afraid concluded that we cannot offer publication on this occasion. Paul in Calgary:
Look I read you and I respect your discontent. But MBNA must have a valid reason for having the fleur-de-lis on the card! I have a Maple Leaf on mine, there are no sugar maples west of Winnipeg, however I do know that the bank didn’t purposely place the Maple Leaf on the card to aggrivate me. I also have an eagle on the back side, I’m not American, do I give a hoot? No I don’t. Why breed uneccessary resentment agaisnt Quebec or France when that may have absolutely nothing to do with it? That’s all I’m saying.

Danny Williams takes French lessons to better berate Quebec , tonight on this Hour has 22 minutes.
…Premier Danny Williams went back to elementary school recently so he could say, en francais, “Quebec is giving Newfoundland and Labrador the shaft.”
In case you were wondering, this is a joke. Mr. Williams is a guest on CBC’s comedy show, 22 Minutes, Tuesday night. But it’s not very funny; it’s cringe-worthy… Jane Taber is not amused.
Will tune in tonight for sure.
