Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA
"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
He’s a giver like that.
Inappropriate. What else is there to add? (except that preceding question of course)
I cry when I consider another three years of NDP rule in Nova Scotia. Literally.
Who allowed it? The Saskatchewan Party, that’s who! I’m wouldn’t be surprised if Premier Brad Wall paid for it.
The Former NDP Government got away with Channel Lake, Spudco, a cover up involving a $1,000,000 fraud/theft of taxpayer money, the thinly disguised re-election ad campaign called ‘Saskatchewan’s Wide Open’, Murdock Carriere, an open bribe of voters in which SGI gave out ‘rebate’ to drivers just months before an election and the naming of a school after a former CCF Premier and Klan member Tommy Douglas during the 2007 election, so why would the Saskatchewan Party care about this silly little letter?
The school employee in charge of the Grad ceremony allowed it, plain and simple. Usually they display a little more tact. Call Bishop James Mahoney High School — they’ll tell ya.
Politicians send out congrats notes all the time. I’d be surprised if the local MP *didn’t* send one as well.
Methinks the issue is that this letter mentions “NDP”, when political leaders usually exhibit the sense to be non-partisan in situations like this.
They just should have attached a union sign up card and a request to prepay one year’s dues to CUPE or whatever.
Of course the NDP is “congratulating” a recent graduate. Now they are finally prepared for the world world order having endured Gramsci’s Long March.
The 3rd paragraph (the human capital ndp crap) made me nauseous
The comments (all two of them) on NDP Watch are worth a look.
Teacher’s Union Member. ’nuff said.
As long as the people of Saskatchewan tolerate such silly antics by the party that will not rest contented until capitalism is eradicated from this land, this kind of crap will continue. Thjank God we are finally bringing back some of the people who left Sasakatchewan and are attracting more so perhaps the party of ‘Free Enterprise’ can finally stamp out this silly @$$ experiment with communism/socialism of the Saskatchewan that was.
Everyone gets this letter ot like this there is even on from our local MLA who is Sask. party and behalf of the Premier. So what is the problem???
It’s a congratulation letter. Congratulations. Period. Get over it.
If the SaskParty or Brad Wall wanted to have sent a letter, I’m sure it would have been included too. If a letter from them WAS sent and it wasn’t included, then you have an issue. But right now you’re upset about nothing.
When a congratulatory message is sent, the political party is not identified. As NDP watch mentioned, that’s when it crossed the boundary into political propaganda.
That’s the problem.
When I graduated a number of years ago I got a letter from my MLA (who happened to be then minister of transport Ed Stelmach) that congratulated me on behalf of the “Progressive Conservative Government”
A congrats letter from the MINISTER of Education would be appropriate and that’s all. However graduating from high school is not much of an accomplishment these days!
Mountain out of a molehill. The REAL question is why wasn’t there a congratulatory letter from the Gov’t. side, as ‘Todd’ already suggested.
Wrong question …the right question is: can those graduates READ and COMPREHEND the letter?
Who writes an entire letter in italics? Gag.
I think this is really much ado over nothing. The only real mistake that Mr. Lingenfelter made was that he used the wrong letterhead.
Realistically, if he was going to congratulate the graduate “on behalf of the NDP caucus”, then he should have used the caucus’ letterhead. Otherwise the letter should have read as his personal congratulations and those of the Official Opposition rather than the caucus.
Funny thing is that I don’t remember getting a letter from Mr Romanow OR Mr. Swenson when I graduated
I’ve got no problem with the letter so long as the school isn’t picking and choosing which party’s can send a letter.
These kids will soon be voting so we need not helicopter parent for kids at this age.
That said, I strongly believe that we should change the voting age to 25 years old. We are constantly told that adolescence today goes well into the late 20s for most and I concur. 18 year olds really have no business voting, considering most young adults today won’t start working, paying taxes or even living on their own until their mid 20s.
Also, if the NDP want’s to lower the voting age to 16, you can bet they are advocating for the opposite of what is necessary. JMO
The creepy part is that those grads are now included on an NDP database. They, like the 1100 residents of Waterhen First Nation, are likely to show up as NDP members in the next leadership campaign.
> The creepy part is that those grads are now included on an NDP database
Under the name ‘Dear Graduate’? Right. Yeah.
Yawn.
A non-issue.
This blog has outwritten itself.
Lighten up, Aaron. I know it’s depressing that the Sask NDP got saddled with an old has-been politician who embarrasses even my die-hard NDP acquaintances but there is hope. Perhaps Link’s election team could get some tips from the federal Liberal party. They allegedly had some truly novel ideas in the Desnethé-Missinippi Churchill River riding in the 2006 federal election.
The sad part is that people commenting on this blog are getting their pants in the know over a sheet of paper, included with the diploma, but don’t give a rat ass about fascism and communism creeping into the classrooms on the daily basis.
Gays don’t recruit in schools either. Nor does it seem the NDP Party in Saskatchewan.
It all a piece, to ride the death train socialism.
After all our schools have proven castles of progressivism.
JMO
When I graduated from high school I got a letter from John Diefenbaker that started off, “It is trite to reiterate…” and I never read any further than that. That said, at least he didn’t identify his party, and so showed more class than the NDP.
Somebody should be fired for that.
“…but don’t give a rat ass about fascism and communism creeping into the classrooms on the daily basis.”
That’s an outright ‘porky’, Aaron. Our Hostess and commentors remark daily on creeping socialism, and Governmental excesses.
I doubt there’s a pro-SDA commentor that supports bigger Government, and all that implies.
When I was a Reform MP I was, from time to time, called upon to speak at high schools or send out congratulatory letters to constituents.. It was a given that the word “Reform” never passed my lips or went onto paper.
Any politician who uses his position to promote his party in this way is, by definition, an uncouth jerk.
> Our Hostess and commentors remark daily on creeping socialism
Mostly in the US and EU.
When was the last mention of socialist indoctrination at schools? When Oswald was re-educated IIRC. That was years ago.
Todd @12:08 – I’d like to send a form Congratuations!!! letter to every kids that makes it through high-school in Saskatchewan – stapled to their diploma, if possible.
Any tips on how I should go about this?
Indy @12:59 – the amazing childishness of kids in their twenties has been blowing my mind ever since I was a ‘teen.
Aaron – I will take it upon myself, risking the wrath of Kate, to suggest that if you don’t like SDA anymore you can ukhodi (that’s phonethic).
(…phonetic.)
“Who allowed this letter to be included with a high school diploma?”
I think it’s 99.9 percent certain that Phantom nailed it: the local Teachers Union.
Aaron: you wrote “Yawn. A non-issue.” In your next comment, you wrote “The people commenting on this blog…don’t give a rat’s ass about fascism and communism creeping into the classroom.”
Question: what are they putting in your food?
Now, to be fair, I would assume that this may be a graduating student from Link’s home constituency, and as his MLA he is sending along a letter of congrats, that said, the letterhead is from caucus – not the MLA office. Would be curious to find out how many were sent.
Dear student,
Congratulations on becoming more or less an adult, and certainly a consumer.
Now is your chance to become a mindless zombie.
On behalf of the Mindless Zombie Association of Canada (MZAC) I recommend walking around the mall with one of those new things with everything on it.
Please take the time to stop near the top of the escalator, look around for your friends, and screech “fer sher” while revealing as much as possible of your ass.
This will help the senior citizen behind you to visualize a target for the boot that he will shortly be delivering to your ass in order to move you along to your next act of self-gratification.
Have a conforming day,
Yours sincerely,
No One In Particular.
Point being that the letter is paid for by taxpayers.
Link of the Largess………
In the good old days the LG of Ontario used to give all of us 3 packs of Rothman’s cigarettes at Christmas. Of course that was back when most of the non leftist men holding public office still had testicles.

What a lonely life you lead, Aaron. Sitting around in your hemp jammies, cataloging threads and comments for possible later reference.
“School” also includes post secondary, and that’s a frequent and recurring topic here. And no, I’M not going to go through the archives; apparently YOU’VE chosen that hobby.
(As an afterthought, there was the recent high school incident of the two teachers indulging in some erotic and inappropriate conduct with students in the Gym. Thoroughly rehashed here as I recall…)
So who thinks that high school graduates can’t handle a letter of congratulations from the NDP without being forcibly converted into raving socialists?
Not me.
It’s just a letter of congratulations. The kids can handle it.
Chill out.
EBD: “Aaron: you wrote “Yawn. A non-issue.” In your next comment, you wrote “The people commenting on this blog…don’t give a rat’s ass about fascism and communism creeping into the classroom.”
Question: what are they putting in your food?”
MSG … that’s why our freedom lover wants our gov’t to ban it.
I’m wondering if this letter was sent with the approval of the School Board, and if they had vetted/approved the contents.
As a (failed) candidate in that last School Board election, if I had seen this letter I would have rejected it.
(Just out of principle. As a former soldier, I hate all things socialist)
You let the NDP, thru their teacher’s union, educate the little duffers so why are you upset now? You can imagine the uproar if the CPC inserted a congrats from Stephen Harper.
ct; you’ve got it backwards. The Teachers Unions ‘own’ the NDP. With their massive memberships they attempt to dictate policy at conventions (pretty much the rest of the time as well. Eg. the tempest in a pencil pot, here in B.C., over across the board testing at Grades 4 and 7, to determine effectiveness of teaching. BCTF adamantly opposes it; G*d forbid parents should actually find out whether their kids are actually learning anything…
